The Jewish community day school of Nashville is truly one of the city's gems. Covering grades from…read morek-6, the school encompasses a balance of excellent secular studies and fairly rigorous Judaic studies. Small class size and individual attention has been great for my 5 year old. A combination of 'centers' where a few kids work on the same subject as well as group instruction has not only helped his reading skills, but his interpersonal skills as well. But what really sets this school apart is the fact that it truly is a Community school. The Chabad rabbi sends his kids there and the Reform Rabbis send their kids there. The younger kids all daven together and the older kids can choose between a more liberal or a more traditional service. Last and best is the fact that the kids graduating from Akiva are eagerly snatched up by the prestigious Middle and High Schools in town who recognize the learning skills the kids take with them as well as the knowledge they have gained. For Jewish parents that desire a first class education and want their children to grow up to be imbibed with Jewish values and knowledge, it is a joy to know that Nashville is blessed to have a place this wonderful.

The facility itself is clean and maintained from what I could see or note from the outside. I wasn't sure if I had access to the inside of the building so I didn't bother entering. The turf area, In particular the lacrosse field, was in excellent condition, which made my workout and experience even more enjoyable.

The concert proceeds were donated to Make-A-Wish so we also got to hear some moving stories about the impact the foundation has. Overall, it was a great opportunity to see some art and listen to a wonderful choral performance.

I came to Ensworth last minute to attend high school my freshman year. They welcomed me in with open arms and did not brag at all about their success but let the school and there students speak for itself. Yes, this school is very exclusive Pre 1st - 12th but it isn't for no reason. I cannot even begin to explain how phenomenal the faculty and staff is at Ensworth. I can go back and visit many of my teachers and converse about my endeavors and the growth of the school. They truly care. Also the college counseling department is very helpful with the students college application process. In addition, academically I was more than prepared for college. Anyone to say any different probably comes from a rival school which is natural. As a student I use to hear it all the time. If you do not want to believe me look at where our graduating students are attending school and their accomplishments just in high school. For example, out of my graduating class of 105, 3 students where accepted to Harvard and that is just the beginning. The facts are indisputable.

Only certain students are chosen for scholarship. Typically IB students and there is little diversity in that program. The school has placed more students in this program with little to no support. Look deeper at grades, accomplishments, and scholarships of minority students vs. others. IncentIves for good academics is always school Tshirts. No rewards for honor roll or passing state testing. Most minorities are not recommended for scholarships.
