It's a lovely drive and because it's an hour outside of Austin we just make a day of it and try to have our going out there be our only plans. This church is small (never seen more than 25 people during a service) which is refreshing after attending a very large, praise heavy church for many years. Everyone is warm and welcoming and it's rather diverse in age and race for being so small. Mostly families. Pastor Scott Mitchell is a very direct and knowledgeable teacher who rightly divides the Word of Truth...but most of all he is compelled to share the Gospel of Grace! There is not a band... No "Praise and Worship" top 40 here. There has been some musical accompaniment to the singing, but I personally like that we usually sing two old school hymns acapella in between the two sermons. Hymns are just magnificent pieces of writing...beautiful, scriptural, and they always show a great love and respect for the Lord. And yes, I did say they have TWO sermons! This is a true BIBLE church. The emphasis is on studying the Word of God. (The King James Bible) The first starts at 10am and is just under an hour long. This sermon is usually a continuation of a series...like now we are not studying "The Kingdom of Heaven". The second is typically more practical in nature like, "How to share the Gospel" and is a stand alone message that is also about an hour long. Brother Scott always uses scripture to define scripture, so you will get to know your way around the Bible REAL fast. And it's exciting! And you can ask questions or get clarifications during the sermons! It's engaging, challenging, always thought provoking, and leaves me wanting to study my Bible all the more! From their website: "Grace Family Bible Church has one focus: We want all men to see that God has reconciled the world unto Himself through His precious Son Jesus Christ, and He is no longer holding men accountable for their sins. All of your sins were paid for by the blood of the Lord Jesus Christ at Calvary's cross, and you can be saved eternally by simply trusting that Christ died for your sins, was buried and raised again."

It is a quaint little church about an hour south east of Austin - worth the drive if you really want a church that will teach you from the word of God (KJB) and make the gospel priority. The people are super friendly - but, not pushy. There is a small, educational children's program. If you like the Truth and are tired of the entertaining churches - this is a special place. You can go to the website to hear some of Pastor Scott's teachings - you can also find his teachings on a site called: www.trustingthelord.com

It is a relaxed atmosphere and come as you are. There is also a coffee shop inside the church. The kids enjoyed the chocolate cookies. My son had a good time on UNIGHT Wednesday 7th-8th Grade: 6 - 7:30 pm and 9th-12th grade: 7:30 - 9 pm. His age group gathers for fun and games and to discuss what's going in their life. It's a safe hang-out space and we are very happy they offer this. He had so much fun talking about the different activities such as ping pong, tag, basketball, and cards. It is also nice for him to unplug from video games. They also offer a drive-thru prayer on Wednesday and host holiday events such as the annual Christmas party for kids. One summer they offer a week sports camp for kids to learn the basics of basketball. Events are updated often and to stay up to date check out their website.

In the front entrance they have a coffee shop which serves fresh coffee and warm cookies that can be taken into the service. This is a wonderful family friendly place to attend a praise and worship service. I would definitely recommend.

Over nearly a decade, I saw certain things evolve while others stayed rock-solid. What never changed was how warm and genuine Pastor Zach and his wife, Amber, are. They make a real effort to connect with people on a personal level, and I'm grateful to have built a relationship with them. Another constant is what the church is built on - the Bible. The sermons, the mission, and the definition of what it means to follow Christ all come directly from Scripture. In a world that feels upside-down sometimes, Revolution has always kept a steady, Bible-centered direction. What did change is the size. Attendance has more than doubled since I first started going, all in the same building. On major holidays, it's packed to the point where seating gets tight. The truth is that the building wasn't originally designed to be a church, so the need for a dedicated worship space is real. Because of that, they do ask for donations once each service - just like any other church. I've seen a couple reviews saying they didn't like that, but in my experience the giving here is both necessary and used responsibly for actual church needs. In short: the pastors are genuinely great people, the congregation is welcoming and passionate about their faith, and the teaching stays firmly rooted in the Bible. Not every church environment fits everyone's preferences, but from my years there, it would be tough to find another that checks as many boxes as this one.

I have tried looking around and smiling and nothing... I am so disappointed, Sigh! I even called and told them I was new and asked if there were any groups I could join and was told to log in to their website and look to see what they had... :-(

I'm sorry to hear that this was U C.'s experience. While I can't speak to every conversation U C…read more has had or every conclusion reached, I can speak to my own experience as someone who calls Compass Bible Church Hill Country home. I've found the pastors to be deeply committed to teaching God's Word faithfully and carefully. They encourage us to test everything they teach against Scripture (Acts 17:11), not simply accept their opinions. Some theological topics--such as assurance of salvation, sanctification, or books like Enoch--have been debated by sincere Christians for centuries. It's understandable that believers won't agree on every interpretation. Regarding salvation, I have never heard the church teach that a Christian must "start over," make a new confession, or be re-baptized every time they sin. The consistent emphasis has been that salvation is by grace through faith in Christ alone, and that genuine saving faith produces a transformed life--not that good works earn salvation. As for education, I've never felt that a college degree or academic background determined whether someone belonged. Our small groups include people from many different walks of life, and I've seen everyone--from tradesmen to professionals to stay-at-home parents--welcomed and cared for. No church is perfect because no church is made up of perfect people. There have undoubtedly been conversations that could have gone better, and I hope anyone who leaves with questions is heard respectfully. Compass is a church that encourages conversation. But describing the church as manipulative or unloving simply doesn't reflect what I have consistently experienced. I've seen pastors give sacrificially of their time, members care for one another through illness and hardship, and the congregation strive to grow in holiness while extending grace. If someone is looking for a church that prioritizes verse-by-verse exposition of Scripture, takes discipleship seriously, and desires to glorify Christ above personalities or trends, I believe Compass Bible Church Hill Country is well worth visiting. Rather than relying solely on reviews--positive or negative--I would encourage anyone searching for a church to attend several services, meet the pastors and members, ask questions openly, and prayerfully discern whether it is where God is leading them. Grace and truth are both biblical values (John 1:14), and my experience has been that this church sincerely strives to pursue both.

The pastor started preaching without any greeting to the congregation OR welcome to new visitors! One of the reviews described the pastors/preaching as "military grade" & that's what it felt like sadly. The pastor used all these big words that I understood (I have a Masters degree) but wondered who he was trying to impress! He also never even cracked a smile......nor did any of the church members! As I looked around, the members looked like robots looking straight ahead at their "leader.! Not a SINGLE person appeared to notice us & after we left, my daughter said to me "those people don't have the joy of the Lord!" That broke my heart because followers of Jesus should be the friendliest, most welcoming, most non-judgmental people in the world reaching out to a world that is desperately hurting!
