I came to this church over the weekend to see my friend present his baby here. This church has its own parking lot and it's a decent size. I parked at the plaza across the street and walk here because I was already planning on getting food there. There also street parking on Mason as well. The main church is also a decent size inside and decorated nicely. The staff here are wonderful and will help you if you have any questions. The mass I attended was all in Spanish but I was just there to witness my friend baby presentation. read more

He is a strong leader of the church and a great guide for people who want to strengthen their faith in God. The parishioners are all friendly and kind people. This review is only about this church/school providing their play fields for soccer games on Saturdays. Our little four year old granddaughter has started her first league soccer experience. Saturday mornings are dedicated to rooting on her team. This facility has plentiful parking, some bleacher seating for spectators, and clean restrooms available. Overall, it's a good place to have soccer contests, especially for little ones. They are able to squeeze in a number of game layouts for the younger kids. There are actually two parking lots - one off Mason, and one off Lassen. The Mason one seems to fill up more rapidly than the Lassen one, especially if you don't have the 8:00 a.m. game. The fields provide a family-friendly atmosphere for the kids to expend some energy, and learn about soccer. read more

We where parishioners of St. John Eudes Church in Chatsworth for many happy years. My kids went to the school, made their 1st Holy Communion at the church and confirmation. My family and I very involved with multiple ministries. The church and church community became like our 2nd home. It all ended when Fr. Gerard took over and we went to another parish. Thanks to COVID I found myself back at SJE once more and had the luck of hearing Fr. Ethan the new parish priest. His homily is very insightful and he is very warm, welcoming and Compassionate. Been coming here for over a year now, and all I have to say is I love this community. The priests and everyone who serves at the church. They have been nothing but kind to me here. I come to this church with my parents they love, St John Eudes. My nephew is doing his first communion here as well. My partner is finishing up his sacraments at St. John Eudes for God willing we will get married soon! Fr. Ethan is an Angel he was always there to give me advice and also when I needed confession. He was there throughout my pregnancy. Seeing him meet my baby girl for the first time was such a sweet moment. Pre COVID 19, Fr Gerard had run SJE solidly. After he left, there was a time where there were no priests. The two new priest have radically changed the Church for the better. Before it was temporarily ran so poorly by laypeople and parents who just didn't care. Fr Dave unfortunately passed away. Another Fr. Dave replaced him. Fr Ethan is running both the Church and school. He's really tried his very best and the congregation has grown and donations have increased and remain steady. The one thing that this Church can use, is for more parishioners to get involved to make the Church even better. SJE Church is a great place to come to learn and worship God in a Christian manner. Sure it's not perfect, but most things In life are not. You have to remember why you're even here. You're here to learn and develop a healthy and loving relationship with Christ & with God. What other people do, is on them. They'll have to answer to God eventually. Most of the congregation are friendly and caring. Come to Mass and get to meet some really nice people from the Catholic community. There's even coffee and donuts after Mass and you can come sit and chat with people. My family has been coming here since 2011 & we've seen the positive changes and have made a lot of friends. read more

I hate to give a church anything less than a stellar review, but I just can't here. My wife and I moved here recently and checked out St. John's since it was the closest Catholic Church to us. We just found the mass a disappointing experience. First off, the first mass on Sunday is 7:30 and they don't have singing. I've only ever experienced that at at 6am mass. We missed the music. We also just felt like the mass was unorganized. Maybe they had new alter servers. I don't know. The whole mass just felt...off. The pacing also seemed slow. Even without the music, the mass ran long which we couldn't figure out. I don't know. St. John's might work for you. But it's just not what my wife and I were used to so we decided it was best to just go elsewhere. We've since begun going to Our Lady of Lourdes in Northridge and have decided to make that our parish. read more

The pastor of this church has created a toxic environment at both the school and church. He is simply a pawn of the archdiocese and has zero leadership skills. I would not recommend this church or school to anyone who is looking for quality. Just the other day, I witnessed, at a school football game, a parent of SJE students giving the middle finger to the opposing team's crowd and then threatening to punch another parent. Emails were sent to the pastor and his response was beyond inadequate. He simply said the parent was not an employee so nothing could be done. I have heard from other families about how poorly mismanaged the school and church are. It is sad to see a school that was well respected become a place of toxicity. Extremely disappointed with this church. My daughter was baptized here and when I asked for a copy of the certificate they claimed to have no records. Basically just stole our money for a "required donation" Now we can't move forward to do her first communion. The fact that a church can't keep records in order is really alarming. read more

A massive church. Built "in the round" with the altar in the center on a raised mount. Very pretty but the Mass seemed rather distant. Almost impersonal. The French pastor is interesting. But at a funeral for a friend he talked more about himself than the dearly departed. Very interesting, though, and inspirational. read more

If you need to go to mass at an "irregular" time, check out the mass times at St. John Eudes. They have 11am and 12:45pm masses for those of you driving back into town or running late for your parish's mass times. The church itself has a beautiful setup inside, and the community always appears chipper and close. But the masses do seem pretty slow...and almost always go over time, so be wary if you're on a tight schedule. read more

I was first introduced to this church back in the early 80's by my parents. I did my first communion here, celebrated my Quincenera and my parents got married here as well. I have wonderful memories as I was growing up. My parents were low income and of course being a large family of 8 needed help at times. My mother would bring us to see Mother Teresa and Mother Guadalupe, they always received us with smiles and much love. They would open the back garage door and give us hand downs for the coming school year. To us it was like new outfits, we got excited and always found something beautiful to wear. They taught us many things, and always asked how we were doing. I know Mother Teresa is in Heaven now, yet we still have Mother Guadalupe, smiling as always, she has not aged a bit. As for the church... the fathers are great, always polite and the church is very clean, great neighborhood. There are areas where parents with young children can sit, though shouldn't feel discouraged to come on down to church, just because others feel kids make noise. The Lord welcomes everyone, there isn't any discrimination here. If there has ever been anyone with any negative comments while visiting the church, I apologize for any of that sort of conduct, that's not how this church is. I recently came upon some struggles, I had to use my last straw. I asked the Lord to guide me and help me get through this. I came to Church and asked for help. I am almost back on my feet, they helped us immediately and the support has been amazing. This is why Im taking the time to thank Father Gerald, Father Carlos, Tish, Victoria, MaryAnne, Gale, Victoria and all those who have supported us through their contributions for my family and self. I understand everyone has their opinion on how they enjoy some services and ways the Churches are, though if you're seeking a tight family community Church, come visit this one, you will not regret it. Review is for the school. Never been happier with the care and education that the school provides for the children. The teachers are amazing. My daugher just finished TK, and now can read complete sentences. A teacher friend told me that her level of education is comparable to 1st Grade. Sure, they are strict, but it shows that they care. I am speaking for the lower levels, TK-Kinder, the teacher to student ratio is perfect, not to mention that the parents are required to volunteer, therefore, you can see everything that is going on in the classroom. Staff is unwelcoming. I was told by ,Jill, one of the youth leaders that God couldn't hear us if we prayed alone. When we went on retreat she threatened us that if we didn't follow all activities and remain obedient then we wouldn't be allowed to attend confirmation. One activity had us kneeling on the floor to a statue of a cross (which is breaking the 2nd commandment)for a solid hour straight. We had to place our hand on the statue and worship it. The experience kept me from returning to this church ever again. I encourage others to find other churches in their location, a place that really feels like a community than this hell hole of forced worship. read more

Been going to this church for about 10 years now and was really humiliated by one volunteer parishioner named Janet. She kicked us out of the 12:45 mass because she said you can't bring your child because she's noisy. She said you can go to other masses but not the 12:45pm! How rude and very disrespectful that we left the church halfway thru the mass because we got so humiliated. My wife cried and was deeply hurt by what the Janet the volunteer did to us. read more

I have been a parishioner here since 1997. I enjoy the welcoming atmosphere when I first arrived. I have gone through some personal struggles, this church and staff have helped me get through them. Especially Father Bill McLean, (unfortunately he has retired this year.) Monsignor Nugent (also retired) and current pastor Father Gerard are also great leaders of this parish. Ministries are plenty and I have even volunteered for 5 years there. The church has given me a sense of peace and close community. The church is expanding and adding more activities/programs to grow with the parish needs. As for the off times, there is usually so many people during 9 & 11 am mass, that created parking issues of people leaving and coming thus the off time. They also have wide range of mass, Saturday vigil 5:30pm, Sunday 7:30 am, 9 am Children's mass, 11 am, 12:45 pm, 2:15 Spanish mass and 530 pm teen mass. Please check website to make sure. so a priest from this church officiated my aunts funeral, and i guess he had some assistant named Agnes help him out. she sounds whiny and sings terribly off key. an opera singer with a heavenly voice sang at my aunts funeral and Agnes gave the singer a hard time staying on key with her loud, crappy singing. It is up to an individual to donate what they want and some do and some don't. Regardless the doors are open to regardless of socio economic status. Well Bill S and Jude. I have been attending this church since 1964, the year I was born. The choir used to sing above the pews, it was beautiful! My Mother gave thousands and thousands $$$$$ to help build this church in 1963. Years and years down the road she missed a few "donation" envelopes and she received a letter....." we have not heard from you...you want to go to heaven don't you? if you don't give you will not go to heaven.....wow! needless to say my Mother was very upset!! Never gave another dime! I know this church very well. I used to walk to this church in the 70's with my cat in my large tote and sit in the pews ALONE, too many people now so one can never find alone time here. After the northridge earthquake all the statue Saints we're removed, everything changed :(. There is a lot more going on with this church than you know Bill S. I don't attend anymore. I've been going here for eight years now and in my opinion has its up and downs. fr. Laurence explains history of the readings before it is read so we know the background and father Gerard is animated. fr. Carlos is nice but very hard to understand and I can admit due to me wearing hearing aids and I sit in front tune out during his long homilies that I can't understand due to his accent. volunteering is available such as food bank and I help gift shop since it opened in November 2013. I go to men's ministry on Saturday mornings at 630am but it's a lot of old folks and the church needs a 21 to 40 year old group because that age is dead in church. Also I suggested a St. Dyphna's mental health ministry idea for people like me and I have a Religous Studies degree from CSUN to the seminarian at the time Eluterio and he said he gave it to the priests and need Archdiocese approval and was told by Mary Ann that the church doesn't have one. Okay so why not create one, didn't Jesus cure demons.It made me feel like the church secretly stigmatizes people Also they are so liberal sided I can't stand that because for example they have March for Life events but yet are going to vote liberal and kill ourselves. Can the rest of the Catholics not be a hypocritical Catholic? Guess not. read more
