You can certainly go visit the churches on this tour on your own but it is really worth doing the guided tour so you can get inside the churches and take pictures and get a detailed history of each church. We had a super guide, Gary Carpenter, who also does professional photography, so he let our group of photo club photographers set our own pace and not rush to the next church. He also had access to the spots to turn on the indoor lighting which was a must for good pictures. I can not say enough about Gary and the nice ladies at the Chamber of Commerce. There are some fees for doing a guided tour but well worth it.

We came on our own and didn't get much information on the church's history but we still really enjoyed seeing the stunning artworks and incredible detail inside. I couldn't find the visitation hours posted anywhere but it was open when we came (Friday, early afternoon). The gift shop across the street was closed though. They do have mass here on Sundays and I assume that's when they open the gift shop. I assume the church remains open during standard daytime hours but don't take my word for it. If you appreciate beautiful churches, I highly recommend seeing this one.

Mom and I quickly walked in, looked around, enjoyed the painted art work, and left. Definitely worth the drive out to BFE to see it.

My…read morefamily is so impressed with Father Lyon's homilies and commitment to bring His sheep the TLM that they are considering moving to New Ulm area. I enjoyed his homily and took notes so I can reread his lesson. Father Lyons provided us explanations of Bible scripture readings and the great TLM. Than you for being a good Shepard.

I'd say I stopped…read moreby this church (The World's Smallest Active Catholic Church!) hoping for reconciliation but really, I just wanted to check another "World's Smallest" or "World's Largest" off my list. I'm a sucker for a roadside attraction and per the visitors' book, it gets pretty regular traffic from other roadside oddity enthusiasts. All in all, it is what you'd expect: A really small (and unstaffed) church in the middle of some beautiful country with cows and oak trees and even a teeny, tiny graveyard.
