Who would have thought that I would be working along side my mentors and teachers after being part of the first graduating class of CCCS? A large part of my success today comes from what I learned at CCCS--to rise to the top, be accountable for myself and others, and to be generous and open. It is with great honor that I return to CCCS to give back for all it gave me growing up: a home, a safe space to be myself authentically, and a school dedicated to see me succeed. I have returned to continue the legacy of education, love, and promise that this revolutionary school and movement can offer Inglewood, but the world: a model of excellency.

The assistant principal did not return phone calls regarding concerns I have about my child and the school. There is poor communication at the district. I emailed my child's program specialist for two months to get answers about an IEP. She wasn't following up I had to keep asking for an update. They don't have the proper resources for speech therapy. IUSD needs to update their resources for speech many things have changed and the district has NO CLUE! A One star rating is one star too many! On August 29, 2025, during the first week of 6th grade, a student was targeted just steps outside the school gates. The suspects, wearing ski masks, tried to steal his Sprayground backpack by pointing a gun at him. His family was waiting outside the school when the suspects chased their vehicle and fired multiple shots at them. This child was not a troublemaker. He had been his elementary school's 4th-grade Vice President and 5th-grade President--a great role model who didn't even live in the neighborhood. He was simply targeted because of his backpack. What makes this even worse is that the principal reportedly knew similar incidents had been happening in the weeks leading up to this but never warned parents. Instead of hearing about such a serious incident from the school, many parents found out through the Citizen app. When parents asked the principal about what had happened, she denied that the incident had even occurred, despite many families already knowing about it. Parents deserve honesty, transparency, and communication when their children's safety is at risk. A school's first priority should be protecting its students and keeping families informed--not leaving parents to learn about violent incidents from a phone app. I would not recommend this school to any parent until student safety and communication are taken seriously.
