The drive from many students was sadly quite low and it affected many students around them. I also thought it was very odd when I had a history class taught by 3 different teachers. One teaching in Spanish, the next Arabic, then the final one in English. It was quite distracting and was an inefficient way to teach. I transferred out after a semester.

If you have the money for the tuition and need to get your kid out of their current situation it is worth considering. But the promises made at the tour will not be kept. Now, my husband (also an RMSEL graduate) and I are looking at the school for our kindergarten-aged child. While RMSEL has grown and changed over the years, I believe its core values remain the same. The key takeaways I received from my time there are life skills that have followed me into adulthood and served me well in my career--resiliency, problem-solving, and independence. The expeditions were life-changing in so many ways: they offered my first experiences with developing countries, and they required a level of self-discipline that shaped who I am today. We currently have friends whose children are in kindergarten at RMSEL, and we love hearing about their experiences. Small class sizes, meeting children where they are, and introducing expeditions at such a young age are key reasons we're excited to return as a family. As a teenager, RMSEL was a blessing to me, even when I didn't always see it that way. Returning as an adult, I could recognize how the expeditions build resilience--even when the students themselves don't yet realize it. This school pushes kids to step outside their comfort zones, and many won't appreciate the benefits until years later. The very things I resisted as a teen are now the things I credit most for my personal growth. If you're looking for a school that teaches more than academics--a place that nurtures real-world life skills that will serve your children well into adulthood--RMSEL is a truly special place.

We enjoy the liberal arts approach of Waldorf education implementing art, music, storytelling, singing and extensive expeditionary learning outdoors. Our children come home happy and content due to the active day they have had with several recesses, exploring the Harvard Gulch Creek, going on nature walks and being surrounded by caring teachers and staff. When we told the director we would no longer be attending CoIS, we were told in writing that we would receive a $2,000 refund on October 22. On October 21 we received an email from CoIS stating they were not going to refund our money and to contact their Board with any issues. We wrote an email to the Board stating we would like the refund that was promised to us, and indicated it did not make sense for us to pay $3,100 for four days of school. We have not heard a word from them. I do not recommend this school for your children, and do not trust the director and Board that are running it. I believe they took advantage of us and multiple other families that did not receive their refund.

However, after being here for just a few days, I quickly realized that I just joined a community that would shape my career forever. From the postcards that teachers are able to write students just to give them a little boost for the day to the amazing art projects that students are supported in making, Humanex knows how to impact every student that attends. As the clinical intern, I check in with students who are needing a little extra support as well as work with students who need help navigating relationships with peers and teachers. Adolescence is arguably the most critical period in a person's life. During this time, adolescents are learning skills that are necessary for higher education or work, psychological autonomy, forming close friendships, and developing a sense of self identity. This time can be a really exciting and challenging time because they are experiencing physical, cognitive, and social changes. Between Mrs. Cahill, the principal, and Dr. Tom Welch, the clinical psychologist, Humanex is very accommodating to those changes and challenges that are presented during this time. They understand that the stimulation and stress that is presented at public schools are not a good match for everyone, and they put a great deal of effort into making Humanex stand out compared to its larger counterparts. During my experience at Humanex Academy, I have learned about the importance of confidence. Confidence is often formed and solidified during adolescence. I am happy that I have been able to aid in the development of confidence for many different students as well as been able to learn about how a compassion and caring can go a long way when working with adolescents.
