If you are a dog lover and/or dog owner, this is a place for you. First, you can bring your dog(s), on a leash or without, and let them run free (except in the gift shop... there, they must be on a leash)... but outside where the air is so fresh, the terrain is beyond beautiful, they can run around to their hearts' content. In addition to the breathtaking grounds, there is also an exceptional gift shop filled with all kinds of things from clothing to furniture and everything in between... all about dogs and all designed by Stephen Huneck, the creator and owner of Dog Mountain. In addition to this great gift shop is a Dog Chapel, also created by Mr. Huneck. It is a very beautiful, spiritual homage to dogs... a place where people of all faiths and walks of life can gather to reflect on the love of their dog(s)... living or departed. When I say there were THOUSANDS of post-it notes and pictures of dogs, I think I may be way off... maybe MILLIONS, plastered on all of the walls of the interior of the chapel. Truly amazing and inspiring. I felt bad because I didn't realize we could bring our own photos to affix, but maybe if we ever return, I certainly will bring some. I did, however, write a message to our dearly departed doggies in a big notebook. I couldn't help it, but I cried buckets while there. It's okay cuz I wasn't alone, to be sure. It is DEEPLY moving, and while it was very sad for us, it is also very uplifting, too, because it's a place to honor your loving dog(s). I heartily encourage you to visit whether you live locally in St. Johnsbury, in the State of Vermont, on the east coast, or from wherever you reside, if you are a dog lover, you need to go !! The Covered Bridge in Littleton NH…read more There are many covered bridges throughout the State of New Hampshire, this one in the town of Littleton, at the edge of the White Mountains. The Riverwalk Covered Bridge wasn't visible from the main road but is located behind Main Street. I believe the building next to it is the Schilling Beer Co, the one with a cool waterfall behind its 18th century grist mill building on the river. We parked behind the shops and walked down towards the historic sign. We were able to see some great views of the river as we walked across the covered bridge. The bridge is long and beautiful. We were impressed in how large the bridge was. At the other end of the bridge is a Farmers Market building. Very pleasant walk... we then made our way on foot to check out Main Street. Review #3042

The Old Man of the Mountain is (still) an iconic symbol for the State of NH [Franconia NH]…read more We had a bit of a challenge locating this place. It should've been easy just off Highway 93 (Exit 34B)... this rock formation on the top of Cannon Mountain was supposed to resemble a human's face above Profile Lake but is no longer there. If collapsed on May 2003 due to natural forces.. I did search for old photos of it from the internet... hmm, interesting! and, yes, that's the fabled stone face! The museum was closed at the time but I followed a nice paved trail, a scenic pathway to Profile Lake and The Old Man of the Mountain Profiler Plaza. There at the end of the trail were a series of seven large steel rods which pointed towards the cliff where the Old Man once was... hmm, okaaaay, Instructions were posted near the rods. This monument allows a new and unique experience in viewing the Old Man of the Mountain. Here is the interactive instructions: FIND the granite stone engraved with the number closest to your height (3-7 feet) STAND on the engraved footprints on that stone SIGHT ALONG the profiler rod in front of you with one eye closed, and align the bumps on the side of the rod THE PROFILE WILL COME INTO VIEW just as it once was, high on the cliff There are a bunch of interesting reads on the plaza.
