The special…read moreeducation department -- including Ms. Mendez, Ms. Crawford, APEIS Cooper, and Principal Esquenazi -- has been the most unprofessional and unsupportive team I have ever encountered. The special education teachers do not follow the IEP as required by law. Instead, they do whatever they want, ignoring the child's needs and parent input. When parents try to advocate for their children, they are targeted, dismissed, and treated as if their concerns are a nuisance. It is heartbreaking and unacceptable. In Ms. Mendez's classroom, the environment is intimidating and inappropriate for children who require support. She raises her voice at students as if they were in a general education setting, and parents who are not in her "good graces" are spoken about negatively to other staff, creating bias and hostility. This is unprofessional and harmful. Ms. Crawford and her assistant ("Ms. Betty") make it even harder on parents who try to do what's right for their children. Instead of working collaboratively, they go out of their way to create obstacles. The nurse, Leah, has also failed to support children with medical needs, choosing instead to back up the staff even when she knows how much these kids struggle. The principal, Mr. Esquenazi, provides no support and always backs up staff, no matter how concerning the situation is. Leadership has failed completely, and the office staff are equally unhelpful. This has been the most hostile and heartless school experience we've ever gone through. Families deserve a school that values and protects children with special needs, not one that plays games with their lives. Please stay away from this school if your child requires special education support, your child's wellbeing will suffer. Parents need to speak up more so that these kinds of people are removed and our children are truly protected.
