I know many people who used to not even want to f*** with Highway 40 before the reconstruction. I…read moreremember even before the highway was shut down people at work from West County were already going around Hwy.40 and taking 44 instead. It's not like I can blame them. The traffic snarls, accidents, steep hills and sharp turns, and those terribly designed on and off ramps made me feel as if I was driving in some developing nation. For example, I remember that ridiculous way to get onto Westbound 40 @ McCausland that would take you through and entire freakin neighborhood before you even got to the actual on-ramp. But much to my delight, the exits and entrances have been radically redesigned and seem to make much more sense on the new Highway 40 Highway 40 at I-170/Brentwood/Hanley is still a bit weird, but still a vast improvement on the submoronic design that was previously there. At least now you can take a ramp directly from Eastbound 40 to 170. Makes sense right? Why couldn't they think of that in the 40's or when ever they first built that mess? I remember back in the day I'd have to exit Highway 40 at Brentwood and bare through an epic clusterfuck of traffic to get to I-170. That probably was the slowest 1/10th mile in St. Louis. And speaking of that strecth of street...there still isn't an exit directly to Eager. Maybe that intersection will never be perfect. And if it means anything, I still have not yet encountered a traffic jam yet on the new Highway 40 but I usually don't take this road during rush hour so maybe thats why. I'd say the two-year pain in the ass was definitley worth it.

We're reviewing highways now? Really? REALLY? Okay, I'll bite…read more MoDot did a good job. Living in Brentwood was a nightmare while construction was going on, but I'm loving it now. Kudos for the 5K run the day before the highway opened. I was there, I froze my ass off, I ran like I stole something. It was great. One star off for the idiots that still rule the roads in St. Louis. I guess that would too much to ask for, though. Right?
