These are quibbles more than complaints, but they're worth noting for travelers expecting every corner of the property to match the grandeur of that first impression. Would not stay here again. I was here 3 nights for a conference. The property has some really unique features and beautiful rooms being that it is an old train station but all the onsite dining was average at best and my room was not clean - dirty toilet, windows, mirrors and trash on floor. I asked for my room to be cleaned and they took care of everything but the toilet which was frustrating. Hotel also a bit difficult to navigate due to odd floor plan. read more

Really nice hotel. Even with the upgrades, they've done a great job preserving the charm of the original aesthetic, which I really appreciated. I was there for a work conference, and even with the busy crowd, the staff remained kind, efficient, and on top of everything. Super interesting hotel. The rooms themselves are pretty standard and clean and employees are really nice and helpful. What sets this hotel apart is the beautiful architecture from the integrated old train station. They have beautiful shows every hour starting at the 5pm hour, which are a lot of fun, located in the main lobby. The hotel itself is located in an area with lots of things to do, like eateries and the aquarium. My two complaints are the food and the fact that it's a large hotel that's a little difficult to navigate. The food was not good. I ordered a salad with salmon and I was shocked in the low quality of the salmon. I also ordered the hummus appetizer and found it to be a lounge bland. I treated myself to room service and was disappointed with that part of my stay. read more

Union Station itself is a beautiful building and so much history and architecture went into it. All throughout the building/ the hotel there are pictures and other train memorabilia in the rooms itself and outside around the hotel. They have a small outdoor pool where some rooms look out into. We did not go in the pool but saw some people go in. Since this hotel is also next to the st.louis aquarium and some restaurants there is a way from the pool area to access this area and there is also a big pond with koi fish and there was a big bird hanging out there too. In the mornings I would walk around this pond to see the fish and it was a nice way to get in a little walk and be outside without having to use my maps to see where I was going if I were to go walking in the main streets. Our room itself was old looking and had a weird smell to it. Had trains incorporated into it too. The beds well at least my bed was not comfortable, our charging station in the room was not working at all, for the price of this room I was expecting alot nicer. The desk chair seemed a bit dirty, my pillow case on one of the pillows was a bit dirty and the lock on the main door was sorta broken. If I were staying here more than just two nights I would have asked to move rooms. Not what I was expecting for the price! In this hotel there is a nice size gym where my friend and I checked out both mornings. It has all the usual gym equipment: Bikes, treadmills, weights, and other machines. The treadmill I was on for about 5 min kept saying some message and I stopped using it. And It was hot in here. No idea how my friend did her work out in here. I didn't see any fans, feel any AC or see any windows open. There is a starbucks located next to the gym and also a little market where if you forgot anything they probably had it. The staff here were nice and friendly and so are the security officers walking around. They helped us find the gym. It's a sort of confusing hotel and you have to use your key to open some doors which when we checked in the front desk forgot or didn't tell us this. Our stay came with breakfast, but we did not use that part as we had breakfast with our friend who lives in st.louis both mornings. We were looking for a hotel that was close to where we were seeing our concert and this one was the closest so that is why we chose it. But I am not sure I would stay here again or more than 2 nights. read more

This hotel is definitely nostalgic, elegant, and makes you think back to the days when traveling was something you pulled out your Sunday's best for. There were so many little quirky and unique features around every turn. The Whispering Arch was definitely my favorite. I stood on one side and my husband the other, and in our whisper voices, had a conversation. This would be a really cute place to propose marriage, as the informational placard mentions. The Grand Hall and its light show was fascinating to see. The train sounds and visuals were fun and entertaining. It is beautifully furnished and a comfortable place to just sit and spend some time. We utilized the valet parking during our stay and the valet staff was amazing. Unfortunately, the room itself was not the highlight of our stay. We spent the majority of our visit exploring the city and the room simply served as a place to rest our weary heads at night, but the cleanliness fell short of our expectations. Hair on bathroom counters, cobwebs in the window coverings and splashes of who knows what on the walls. We visited during the July 4th holiday, and because of that, the city was outside in a major way. I don't know if the area surrounding the hotel is always like this, but we did encounter some rowdy locals in the park located across the street from the hotel. We wanted to take a walk one evening after dinner, but decided to remain close to the hotel due to our lack of familiarity with the neighborhood. Union Station does not only house the hotel. There is also an aquarium, the St. Louis Wheel, a mirror maze, ropes course, and much more onsite. We had fun experiencing different attractions and meals at a variety of restaurants while onsite during our stay. read more

My friend and I have been here before for drinks and the light show years ago which was a lot of fun! The hotel has a beautiful grand hall. We were placed in a room with 2 Queen beds by the pool which worked out. There was a bit of walking to our room from main hall. I took an advantage of the gym which was great. Only a few people in there and there are plenty of treadmills, ellipticals and bikes. They have a good variety of dumbbells however only one set of each weight. This hotel was accessible to other activities that we took an advantage of while we were here such a breweries, cider place and restaurants. We took Ubers while here. read more

I'm gonna start with this... I will return! I enjoyed my time here, and the staff was amazing. Special shout-out to the GM who ensured that my crew could get good photos inside the hotel. I'll add some below. My room was right next to the Aquarium! You could look out our window and see the stingrays swimming in their tank! That part was fantastic! What wasn't so great was the fact that our room was a bit dank and very moist pretty much all the time. The furniture was also very outdated, and for those who would be in their room a lot, the place likely should be updated. (We didn't mention this during our stay). This was not in the hotel proper but the Annex. We will stay in the main hotel section next trip out! The rest of the hotel and amenities were amazing! (except the Station Restaurant separate review). Notes turned over to the Hotel: On the day we checked out, we discovered mold in the ceiling of the closet (likely where the musty smell came from). The hotel said they had water damage from something recently fixed and would look into it. I feel they are on top of it. Also, the drain in the bathroom popped away from the wall. The maintenance team needs to inspect the rooms a little more carefully and stay on top of some of the small fixes to keep the place looking nice! read more

My sister has been a Hilton Team Member for over 15 years so we stay at Hilton exclusively. This is by far the worst Hilton we've ever stayed at... let alone that it's supposed to be in the Curio Collection. We booked the King Standard room and when we arrived I noticed the room smelled bad. The carpet wasn't vacuumed and there was still debris and hair in the garbage. The bathroom was the worst, there was clearly toothpaste splatter on the walls, definitely not paint. The whole room looked like it had been wiped with the same dirty rag leaving dirt everywhere. It was also facing the park area that was blaring country music and was super loud. The lady at the front desk agreed the room wasn't cleaned and said it frustrated her as well and switched us rooms. The next room was marginally cleaner but the tv screen was broken. So again.... Back to the front desk. This time, there were 2 other women at the desk complaining of the cleanliness of their room as well. At this point it had been over an hour and the only option they gave us was a queen room or have the TV swapped. We chose the TV swap but they told us they were out of TVs and instead switched our room to a different part of the hotel. As we were leaving the front desk, another employee remarked "they're moving rooms again?!" Which was clearly heard by us and we didn't appreciate. The third room was one of their Executive King rooms with laminate flooring instead of carpet. It was definitely the better option of the 3 but was still not quite the standard it should have been. This room is normally over $350/night but felt really cheap. The toilet didn't flush properly, tv was small, wifi quality was super slow, the Keurig didn't work and the room didn't even have actual glassware. The sound quality was the worst part. The walls are paper thin... we could hear every conversation and toilet flush. Definitely would never pay the Executive price for the quality of this room. So disappointing Hilton.... Overall, it's clear that this hotel is poorly managed and the cleanliness and quality is definitely suffering. read more

Total Transparency: I did not think this was going to be what it was. I'd like to say that I'm pretty well traveled. And some of my travels have taken me thru the St Louis area a time or two. Besides being awestruck by some of the beautiful women there, nothing about Missouri in general really ever wowed me! So when my friends told me that our hotel was nice, I was like, "Okay. But how nice can it really be? I mean.. at the end of the day, we're in Missouri. It's the Show Me state, right? Then show me!" So we pull up to a structure that looks like an old train station. Makes sense, because as I found out, it previously was. So kudos to the engineer for breathing new life in to a beautiful, aged edifice. But I'd seen similar before so I wasn't necessarily blown back. Even to access the lobby was a bit tricky so... strike there. We get to the front desk and the staff is warm and inviting. Genuinely so. Points there! You can pay people to be nice but that only lasts so long. When that's just the way you are, that's a different thing altogether! And these people were the real deal! My friends kept talking about walking around and mini golf. It was already getting cold and I don't like the cold so I'm already turned off, but I always like to at least give serendipity a chance so I told my friends I'd go with. Lo and behold, everyone takes a longer than intended nap and I can't sleep, so I decide to go wander by myself. I started by trying to find this mini-golf that's supposed to be connected to the hotel somehow. So I see the sign and I follow it. It takes me though an atrium of some kind where it turns from enclosed environment to a domed, open air feel. Ok. That's cool. Cold, actually but I'm up for an adventure. So I follow the walk way around an ok looking pool, but it was closed because it was cold, and then it happens. I step out on to a boardwalk. The ground literally transformed beneath my feet. In front of me was a lake, with Lily pads (which I later found out held the torches for the pyrotechnics show a little later on), a couple of eateries and not just a mini golf course but an amusement park. I'd never been so amazed in my life. I was completely blown away. Inside this repurposed train station, they created a Shangri-La for the weary Midwest traveller. I gotta say... it was one of the most unexpected things that I've had happen to me in a while. So if you're ever driving through downtown St Louis... just up the street from the Arch... be sure to wander around the St Louis Union Station. And who knows... maybe stay a night or two. It's definitely worth trying at least once. read more

We were genuinely surprised at the overall beauty, comfort, and friendliness of this hotel. We stayed here two nights in March and loved the modern, while also very comfortable, feel of the room. The beds were luxurious and the room was spacious. We absolutely loved the history as the third oldest rail station in the country that worked to keep much of its charm with its absolutely beautiful lobby and historic elevators. There is a nightly (on the hour) light show that lasts about 5 minutes in the lobby that is pretty impressive (they have 18 shows on rotation). Additionally, the staff was so very hospitable (aside from the valet crew unfortunately). We loved our interactions with the bellmen, front desk, and lobby restaurant staff- they're doing a great job. I would absolutely recommend staying here and we're hoping that we can stay here again. read more

We walked through the area and were surprised to see how in changed from when we visited 15 years ago. Rather than a shopping area it is now an amusement park, aquarium and restaurants. It was almost hard to imagine it as a train station. Now the Hilton Union station hotel was stunning. The great hall has a light show nightly starting at 4:00 and every hour after. The rooms are very nice and clean, the beds are comfortable, the hotel is a bit big and a little difficult to navigate at 1st. They have nice large lounge area with bar and food. Check in was easy, they have a parking area close by, not to costly to park and you can ask for access when checking in. They have a nice gym, and a little cafe with coffee and some light snacks. See original , July 12, then sequentially until today's update for July 26, that after TEN more days of no response as promised by Anna at Hilton's Diamond Elite customer service number on July 16, my husband called again and spoke to Dina. Again, he had to start at the beginning and give the entire story of the incompetence of front desk staff at the hotel from our first stay, to the inability to get a hold of the manager Crystal several times when we tried to call her, to the actual smugness and unprofessional behavior ( and appearance) of the new front desk staff and soon after Crystal herself upon check in when we returned and our inability to access the "crown jewel", the reason why we returned, and paid 50,000 points / night without notification, without apology. Without " let's get this right, we are sorry " and discovered via numerous google reviews that this property double books frequently and good luck if you are the unfortunate one to be turned away despite having a reservation... Dina found the case number, but could not / did not escalate. She did try to contact the hotel directly several times while we were on hold, but no one answered per her explanation. The Union Station venue overall features wonderful architecture and history. Unfortunately, the hotel accommodations and service don't live up to the Curio standard and were quite disappointing. Union Station and the attractions are a great place to visit for a day and the Grand Hall in the evening, but I wouldn't want to stay there again as a hotel guest. We spent three total nights (and nearly $1,000) and never received housekeeping services nor any room amenity refresh. After long days running around as tourists, every night after we got back to our room exhausted, we had to request housekeeping to deliver fresh towels and other expendables, had to dump our own trash, etc. and thus had to wait to go to bed. (Note: We were not advised during booking nor upon check-in that housekeeping is only provided every other day, but in our case, it never happened after three nights/four days). Double queen rooms are nothing exceptional and are small, lacking clothes drawers or anywhere to unpack clothing, so we lived out of our suitcases for three days. Parking, although pricey, is convenient on a nicely maintained lot across the street. Visit this place, but maybe don't stay there. read more

My only negative is that the hotel is a bit run down. I certainly understand that the hotel has been there for over a century but the rooms - which had been updated- could use another refresh. I stayed here for a conference, and while the location is convenient, the hotel itself could use some updates. My room felt humid and uncomfortable the entire time--not sure if it was the weather or the ventilation, but it just felt off. The AC seemed to not work well at night the room was always stuffy. Check-in was also frustrating. We arrived early and understood rooms weren't ready yet--fair enough. But even at the standard 4 PM check-in time, they still didn't have a room ready. It took a bit of back-and-forth before they "found" one for me. Overall, not my favorite place to stay. Between the room conditions and the check-in hassle, I'd think twice before booking again. However if you're looking for something close to the arch and don't mind possibly getting a run down room then go for it. Two stars because the food was pretty good! read more

I had a sorority convention at the hotel. It was a huge location, but with all the history, it was an amazing experience. The room was the perfect place to relax and unwind from a day of business at the convention. The water pressure in the shower was amazing and made every shower feel wonderful. We had one issue where when we first checked into the hotel, one of the staff members unlocked the door without knocking. When I called the front desk, they apologized so much and then called back to offer me breakfast for the rest of my stay. The bed was so comfortable that I was asleep the minute my head hit the pillow, or maybe that was that I was so tired from spending time with my friends. I guess no one will ever know. The hotel is very centrally located, so it was easy to get from the airport and even make it to a baseball game. read more

The hotel was originally the largest and busiest train station of its time in 1894. I was a little disappointed that the hotel does not offer a historic tour, definitely a missed opportunity! But, request for Randy- the mayor of the hotel- he's been there for over 4 decades and he was definitely the highlight of my entire stay. I'm torn on this one. I want to recognize and appreciate an historic space. But at the same time there is much to be done to bring this one up to par. In my gut I felt 3 stars, but no. That's reserved for roadside motels. And this is a far cry from that. The entrance is glorious. With the train station's soaring and gilded ceiling. And it comes to life in the evening with a sound and light show. Truly special. But then it oddly falls off from there. Navigating to your room is head scratching. Signage needs an update. Badly. Clearly this was not built as a hotel, but signage please. Signage. And there are massive MASSIVE amounts of empty space. With the exception of the evenings, I saw next to no one in them. We spent a night here recently for a Blues VGK hockey game. It is about a two block walk to the arena. After the game we hit the lobby bar and had a great time with several Blues former players and fans. They do a light show hourly on the grand hall ceiling at night. First time to St. Louis and really loved this location as I felt there would be more to do here than closer to Arch Park (1.3 mile walk up Market St). The building sits across street from Union Station, Aquarium, Wheel etc. It is nostalgic and apparently at one time housed Train personnel. Old Union Station photos and tile adorn the walls and floor. Room and bath was clean,bed and pillows comfy. All staff were pleasant and willing to please. Shout out to "Isabel" who was interning and was seen at the Front desk, Bartending, cleaning breakfast tables and socializing with patrons. She was very outgoing and friendly. We wish her all the best in her future endeavors. . The bonus was each morning there was a hot breakfast buffet, cereals, waffle station and fruit served on real plates with silver. Shout out to "Shirley" who was also friendly and outgoing. Midday, fresh popcorn popped in lobby and each night, there was lite fare buffet and cocktails all included in your stay. Bottom Line: Beautiful architecture within the historical train station but the hotel itself is very average. I went to Saint Louis for a night and as an enthusiast of history, architecture and trains I knew that I had to stat at the Union Station Hotel run by Hilton. The hotel had been on my wish list of places to stay for many years.. Built in 1894, the St Louis Union State was once one of the largest and busiest train stations in the country. On the busiest days, upwards of 100,000 people would pass through it but Union Station eventually closed when automobiles and air travel made it grandeur irrelevant. In 1985 Union Station was reopened as a hotel. The historical building houses the lobby, a restaurant, meeting rooms and perhaps some hotel rooms. The old train shed and rail yard are now the site of the main hotel building, some restaurants, an aquarium, a pond, a Ferris wheel and such. I like that one of the tracks is still visible, numbered and wording for special excursions like The Polar Express. The historical aspects of the building are stunning and I enjoyed looking around. The stately building is made from limestone and steel and has an iconic clock tower that is 232 tall. On the inside I loved the Grand Hall which its barrel ceiling and nifty green tiles but it is the Tiffany stained glass that was the real stunner. As for the hotel room, I tried to upgrade my room at last minute to something that I thought would be in the historical part of the building but in the end I landed in the "new" hotel building which felt very 1990s to me. Our room was adequate for a one night stay but definitely a no-frills room. Our room looked out on the atrium created by the train shed so basically we got some daylight but couldn't really see outside which again, was fine for one night. I like that the floors of the hotel were named after famous railroads that used to use Union Station like Baltimore & Ohio, Santa Fe, etc. As far as location goes, it was just ok. I had hoped for more restaurants within walking distance. We walked about one mile to Salt + Smoke for barbecue and it was an easy walk but a bit sketchy in places. There are two or so touristy trap places on property but other that's getting ice cream to go from The Station Grill they didn't interest us. We ate breakfast at the hotel restaurant. The food was good and I thought it very reasonably priced. We both ended up getting the breakfast Buffett which included coffee, fresh juice, made to order omelets and many classic breakfast foods like scrambled eggs, bacon, potatoes and fruit. read more

I've stayed here a few times, and over time the hotel has been owned by different companies. I do love the historical architectural design and history. Take time to explore and just sit back and see the details of the hotel. Lots of history and you almost go back in time. Enjoy the lobby and the light and music show. Service has changed over the years, and I just try to be nice to them and show them that they are appreciated. A smile can go along way. If you find something wrong talk to them, and work things out. What a beautiful hotel! Loved the historic lobby and that light show they were always doing. Check-in was easy, but they gave no information. I had no idea there even was a light show, wasn't sure where the best spot to eat breakfast was, and really didn't realize all the hotel had to offer. The hotel is huge and it is a bit of a maze to trek to your room. Worth it though for that beautiful lobby. The room itself was nice and clean. The beds were super comfortable and I appreciated all the train themed decor. If your kids love trains they will love this hotel. While Union Station does have a lot to offer, I found that trying to walk to other local downtown businesses felt a bit far. Probably because Union Station takes up so much space. read more

BEAUTIFUL lobby and I adore how they used an old space for a newer style hotel. We spent $730 to stay two nights. Parking was $40 a day and not included. Conditioner was empty and the cover on the bottom mattress was stained really badly with white stains. They also only gave us two towels in a double bed room. We walked down after the first night and asked for the room to be cleaned, explained the sheet was stained, no conditioner and not enough towels. They didn't do it and we were gone 12+ hours. We got back late to no towels, no conditioner and a dirty sheet/ cover at 9:30 pm. We called and asked for towels and conditioner and if we could walk down to get it. They said the conditioner is refill only, we could not come get it. After 45 minutes they had not showed up, we called and said never mind we are going to bed. Only frustrated because I made special trip down to lobby at 9am and stated what was wrong. Dirty sheets should be taken seriously. Twelve hours and no response to two separate attempts on my part. Paid too much for this experience. Cool to see once, but we get more reliable stay at Bonvoy by Marriott. read more

Customer service leaves much to be desired. When I arrived, exhausted from my flight and the ride from the airport to the hotel, instead of a smile and a "welcome to our hotel, sir" I got a nasty individual and who seemed an employee talking the counter co-worker. Both seem annoyed with my presence. Someone else arrived to check me in, but the individual also had an attitude. Not sure how these people remain employed and why the owners of this hotel employ such lowly people! I would never pick this hotel again for a stay. Horrible! My room was small and when asked for a higher floor and a city view, I was told there were no rooms available! My view was a depressing interior view. I totally detest this hotel! read more

We had a good stay here for a wedding. Pros: super close to grand hall if you're here for a wedding which is so nice after a long day at a wedding, efficient staff , location, and the overall uniqueness of it being a hotel at union station. Cons: parking is $35 a night and not covered, there were marks along baseboards in the room, small black hairs in the bathroom and on the duvet, our room was above the restaurant so it was pretty loud in the morning hearing them move tables and chairs, elevators took quite a bit to come, no fan in the bathroom, loose faucet handle and drain plug on the tub, and no info on check out or housekeeping. Staff was super quick to respond to my message in the app about needing more towels and overall we had a good stay but the cons are something to take into account when looking into staying downtown. I did get to go into the suite the bride was staying in, and it was so nice and spacious so if you can afford to stay in one of those, I think it would be a great experience. Upgraded our room this year to a Grand King room, was absolutely beautiful!! Arrived to our room late in the evening with 2 full open trash bags sitting outside our room. Woke up and the trash bags were still there, thinking maybe someone forgot them there? Check in issues were insane. Arrived early for a convention and 1 of the ladies at the front desk said I'll check you in and your room should be ready around 2pm which would've been great. Went to the restaurant bar (which is beautiful) and came back after seeing multiple people check into their rooms. Upon going back to the desk I was assisted by an older gentleman who confirmed I was never checked in and the room that I signed up for was not available so he upgraded me to a suite after I told him and pointed to the lady who supposedly assisted with checking in. He said another hour. 3:30 I return to the desk as I still didn't have a room only to be told that room wasn't available and they put me in a different room at 4:30pm. So I was late to the conference. The elevators weren't running properly after the first few hours and there was no sense of urgency to fix them. 500+ for the convention and only 1 working elevator. We enjoyed our three nights stay. This hotel has so much to offer for the whole family. The attractions right on the doorstep were great fun. The hotel decor is wonderful espically the main lobby area. The thing that stood out above all else though was the wonderful attitude of every staff member we encountered. read more
