The school pupils are being taken by bus to a school in East Kilbride so I will base this review on the school rather than the building! The teachers are like other schools some more enthusiastic than others. The pupils attend from the age of 12/13 into 1st year and stay until they are 16,17,18. There are a range of subjects taught from the well known maths and english to technical drawing etc. They also have extra curricular activities including school bands and 6th year proms along with prize giving at the end of the school year. IT will be good to get the children back to a new school as soon as it is ready.

The school has a strict uniform policy which states pupils must always wear a tie and must also wear black trousers and jumpers. Also, shoes must be black. The school offers a variety of subjects within its departments including Maths, English, Science, Geography, History, Art, Home Economics and Craft Technology and Design. The school has excellent facilities including well equipped departments for CDT and Home Economics and also has a swimming pool. There are also many after-school activities offered by the school including Cookery, Homework Club and Art Group. The school is a popular one in Edinburgh and the fact the children by and large want to learn and improve themselves is a credit to the hard work put in by the staff.

Classes are open plan which works supprisingly well they also have chill out rooms for any children who for whatever reason may need a break every now and then. My three children attended this school and all achieved good qualifications. Some of the staff have been there for a long time and this is good when you go to parent nights as they know you and you feel more comfortable discussing your childs education. The Academy is an important part of the community, used for Pantomimes and other shows, the starting point for the yearly gala day and of course it's most recent claim to fame was when local boy, Leon returned after winning X factor!

It's such an outstanding building, you can stand on Queensferry road and look down for about half a mile and see it at the end of the longest drive in the world. It's imposing and a real big part of history and the style of architecture would make any art student weep.

My niece attends the classes and she has progressed really well, with the help of the dedicated teachers who are all highly skilled. It also runs the Ozanam Club, founded by the Society of St Vincent De Paul, who meet on Monday nights and provide assistance for young people and children with special needs or disabilities. The main hall can seat around 100-140, and can be hired out for functions, as well as being close to a kitchen for catering purposes. There are also two smaller committee rooms, which are usually used for meetings and community council sessions. A good sized centre, with a huge play park behind it. It could do with a refurbishment and a clear up, but other than that, perfect for the communities activities.
