When she passed away, the church couldn't and wouldn't provide last rites for her, have a mass in her name, or comfort the family because as they put it, they were just too busy. Yet, they constantly send envelopes for my deceased mother or anyone at the house to contribute money to the church so they can do things for its congregation. I find that hypocritical. I find the whole way the church treats its "congregation " appalling. They need to quit pushing their political agenda (yes they urge you to vote Republican, even though the top republican is a sociopath and convicted of crimes). I guess you have to be a certain kind of person to be able to get anything let alone compassion from the clergy at this church. Good luck if you need help or kind words from them. All you'll get is an envelope asking for money.

Since I now have 2 alumni sons from this school, I feel like it's the right time for me to write as honest & as fair of a review as I can. We were part of this school community for a total of 6 years & I can honestly say that each year there were many changes--from departing teachers to the removal of the School/Fair etc etc--all part & parcel of being part of a small Catholic School community. Our first year there they were going through a transition of Principals which was sad for us because one of the reasons we chose to place our sons there in the first place was due to the great vibe we felt from the departing Principal. Depending on who you speak to, some people super love the school & some can talk nothing but venom. Again, that's all part of being a small-knit community. My advice is to keep everything in perspective & don't get too involved in the gossip and rumors that seem to be floating around about staff members or students. If it directly involves your child, make sure you talk directly to the teacher or Administration. Even then, it may be hard to avoid drama. And mistakes can & does happen. Raising good kids takes a village--and not everyone in the village agrees on the specifics on how most effectively to handle EVERY situation. Overall, the education is there. Kids are taught the required curriculum & take standardized tests to see where they are compared to other students in the nation. This school tends to put out some pretty high scores. There are parent-teacher conferences, various activities to get involved in & an overall sense of community all depending on how much you want to get involved. There is an active PTO & some really caring & involved parents that want to make the school more active & lively. The children are taught Catholic values, pray, & attend Masses. If that's something you're not looking for, ANY Catholic school is not the place for your child. It is also an all-inclusive atmosphere--meaning it's not overly competitive. Sometimes, this can be frustrating for high achievers, but it's also a lesson on reality & cultures. Again, every year brought with it many changes & the as I write this, there will be a new Principal, new Pastor Administrator & new teachers beginning in the new school year. I can only wish the school some growth, some positive changes & some enthusiastic students & parents. The school is located in Lakewood, CA & is enclosed & safe.

As a parent himself of two young children, he understands what families value and it shows in the way he leads. One of the biggest advantages of Burcham is that it offers full‑day TK and Kindergarten, something many districts -- even high‑income areas like Irvine -- still don't provide. LBUSD began guaranteeing full‑day TK/K in 2022 based on your home address, and we feel very fortunate that Burcham is one of the schools offering it. Since Mr. Evans arrived, we've noticed so many positive changes. The Kinder playground now has more toys, planters, and engaging play materials. In the mornings, the school plays calm, kid‑friendly music before the bell, and even the bell itself is a soft chime instead of the loud, traditional school bell. These small touches create a warm, welcoming environment for students. Burcham also offers strong after‑school options, including WRAP and Coachie Hour (funded by the PTA). The CDC program opens at 6 AM and runs until 6 PM, though spots are limited -- you're lucky if you get in. Under Mr. Evans' leadership, the school has expanded enrichment opportunities such as Chess Club and after‑school sports like pickleball and tennis. For advanced learners, Burcham offers GATE (Gifted and Talented Education). The PTA is very active, hosting events throughout the year and meeting monthly. Mr. Evans also holds Donuts with the Principal once a month, giving parents a chance to connect and share feedback. With his strong background in IT, he has been instrumental in upgrading the school's technology and equipment. He also offers PTA meetings both in person and online, which is a huge convenience for working families. Academically, the school's scores have been rising, and more families with young children are moving into the neighborhood because of Burcham's growing reputation. We truly love Burcham Elementary. The teachers are caring and dedicated, and Mr. Evans continues to bring vision, kindness, and compassion to the school. He is a forward‑thinking leader who has made a noticeable difference in a short time. Burcham is absolutely a standout school in Long Beach.

Tried stating girl that is bullying my son has mental health issues. His education has been getting worse. They are using their age as an excuse for what she's been doing. This girl has a history of getting kicked out of another school. My son has had no issues. Every aid teacher I've talked to have nothing but great things to say about him. But yet again we're allowing bullying to go on in their school grounds. Now i have to transfer my son to protect him from these kick people

The principals were horrid, incompetent and liars, the counselors, everyone. Especially our 2nd grade teacher Mrs Romero ( a very nasty, bitter person who seemed to enjoy inflicting punishment and humiliation on the students) was an incredible bully to the kids and a parents. I actually had to pull my child out of her class a few weeks early at the end of the year because my child was becoming so traumatized. Do your kids and yourself a favor and avoid this nasty place.
