But if you check its website, you find that it's part of the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA). When you scroll down to look at the Pacific Crossroads leaders, you may notice that there are no women pastors or elders there--maybe even no deacons. If you check out the PCA on Wikpedia, you find a complicated history on attitudes toward women.  For many years PCA interpreted the Bible to forbid women in leadership (never mind the many women mentioned as leaders, including Junia "prominent among the apostles" - Romans 17:6). But in 2016, the PCA voted to reconsider, and more recently they voted to allow women to be ordained; they also allowed any member churches who disagreed to continue refusing to ordain as a matter of conscience.  Then the PCA voted to rescind the "conscience clauses," so some churches that objected to women pastors left the denomination. Pacific Crossroads looks like a church that continues to refuse having women in leadership though it retains ties to the PCA, which has so recently changed. Maybe Pacific Crossroads just hasn't gotten around to electing a woman as elder or hiring a woman pastor.  Or maybe it's holding out against these changes. Whatever the case, you need to know these things when you decide to join this friendly group of Bible-believing Christians.

Both Sundays were impactful.Multiple Biblical scripture references and simple explanations to relate to in message. The worship was beautiful great singers and band. Felt Holy Spirit filled during worship! I have young adult children and they felt message and worship music was great. They had nothing but good things to say about this church. Made for 2 nice Sundays. Greeters at doors made for a nice welcome. Then We Met some of the members who were very nice and welcoming ( Sean) making sure we were ok and directing us to the coffee and tea area, making sure we felt confortable. Marianel , pastor's wife was so kind and love able, she really made us feel welcomed. We talked with her also. And By second week we were hugging each other when saying hi! Water baptisms occurred 2nd weekend. Awesome that they provide shirts , shirts, and flip flops for anyone that wanted to get baptized but had no extra clothes because it had not been planned out. I could see myself attending regularly if I lived in the area.

The church presents the material in a simple, modern, approachable way. The congregation is a cross section of the neighborhood. All ages, ethnicities. Most importantly, the message comes through loud and clear, Christ is King!

Felt compelled to give it a try that Sunday; I had been feeling unfulfilled elsewhere after years of being religious -- something was missing. I was apprehensive because I had never been to this style of worship before; it can be intimidating, in my opinion. I walked in and felt right at home. Haven't looked back since. Sadly, I don't live in the area anymore, but thankfully, there's still YouTube and Apple Podcasts for Pastor Josh's sermons. Each time I brought someone new with me on a Sunday over the years, that person left transformed. This church is not after your money or anything material -- these are genuinely good people who want to help you in every way possible. The leadership here has dropped everything to help me through the toughest season of my life. The messages each week are like none other. The music is outstanding. The social groups are great -- even one for pickleball. If you don't live on the Westside, it's totally worth the drive. Most recently, Pastor Joel has developed a special Lenten prayer room on Wednesdays to practice solitude; there's also a special podcast weekly for Lent. The resources are all there. It doesn't matter if you're of no faith or a different one, just stop by. I hope this review changes someone's life as my experience with the Vineyard in LA has. Again, hard for me to put into words, but I hope you try it out and see what I mean. Pay it forward.

I spent those first weeks in the back sitting on the floor crying. I felt so free and just ok to be myself for once. It has definitely been a hospital for me. It's been 3 years now and I'm so grateful that I was introduced to this community. I've grown spiritually, mentally and emotionally. I'm still growing and figuring myself out but where I am now is without a doubt due to Jesus Christ and the heavy presence he places over this church. The amazing leadership team at Evergreen take their own personal relationships with Jesus very seriously and it makes me trust them so much more. If you're looking to get more involved in the community, I highly recommend checking out all of the greenhouse groups and see which one works for you. Also look into the volunteer teams! I joined the prayer walk team for a time and that is where I made a lot of friends. I'm looking to see where else I can be of use because I seriously love this community and see myself staying here for a long time. I wanna grow with this place.

The entire pastoral and leadership team are sold-out lovers of Christ, and their authenticity is undeniable. From the moment I stepped into this church, I was overwhelmed by the love of God through the Holy Spirit--I instantly knew I had found my church home. Deep calls out to deep. Like anything worthwhile in life, building community takes effort. If you're looking for connection, I strongly encourage you to start volunteering right away. That's how you meet the "good eggs"--the ones who value serving, consistency, and commitment, just as Christ's love compels us to show up for one another. Think of it like planting a tree: roots are necessary for fruit to grow. Attending once or twice and making a judgment doesn't do justice to what this church has to offer. Plug in, get to know people. You can't microwave friendships or a sense of belonging. But according to scripture when you refresh others, Jesus refreshes you--and serving is one powerful way to experience that. If you're visiting for the first time, welcome. I hope you'll take that next step and get involved. Life isn't easy, in fact Jesus warned us there will be trials and tribulation, but He has overcome. Finding people who draw from His well of life is a rare gem, but I've met some of the most solid, faith-filled people here at Evergreen LA. From a city of Angels Native, Amy & God bless you!
