How the church looks from an spiritual standpoint.
    Seth A.

Pastor was very nice & wise & clearly walks with The Spirit, however the community as a whole & the governed system that they use & operate is VERY flawed & not what the word tells us to do. First of all to be a part of the church & or the community you HAVE to fork over a lot of money & go through a selection process & they really only want families (or at least couples) & the ceremony took up more than have the whole service (Sunday Mass). Also the only prayer necklaces (rosaries) they have are $50 a piece which is just ridiculous & unheard of. That's all, so unless you got money coming out your ears & or have extreme amounts of time to waste, AVOID AT ALL COSTS. Thank you.

This place of worship welcomes everyone! Unlike most Catholic Churches this one is beautiful and inspiring. Every priest has amazing energy and really celebrates the mass. The choirs are the best I've ever heard. The 5:30pm mass on Sunday has the most upbeat choir and it feels like a celebration and it really makes you want to be there. They fundraise a lot which can be overwhelming but it comes from a good place and they make a huge impact in the community and over in Africa (the sister parish) This parish offers many groups and activities so there is always something nice happening. I highly recommend to anyone of any religion the 5:30pm mass. Located right next to the beach! Great parking and nice coffee shop on site.

Best church community in LA. Whatever age you are and no matter where you are from you will feel welcome here. The Sunday 5.30pm mass has great a great crowd and choir. The parking structure is always available for parking but for the Sunday 5.30 try and get there before 5.15pm for a spot in the structure and the church If you're new to LA and wanna meet people this is a great place especially their Young Adult community(YMA). You will not regret it.

As a practicing Catholic, the Lenten season is a very special time of reflection and betterment for me. I was in the area for Ash Wednesday mass. I had the blessing of hearing Msgr Torgerson. He has such a tender and wise spirit. His additional reflection enriched the experience and delivered a sense of humility and inspiration. The homily was not long-winded but to the point and rich.

How could a church receive fewer than five Stars? Saint Monica's parish community is the most diverse and engaged church that I have ever experienced!! Their theme is 'ALL ARE WELCOME!' The mass is not only the most inspirational, uplifting and musical experience ever, but it also provides an extremely relevant message through the gospels and sermons. The community is very blessed to have Msgr. Torgerson helm over the most amazing, diverse parish community in LA! The best young adult group (YMA) ever and offers an amazing GLO (Gay & Lesbian outreach). I can only enthusiastically recommend this amazing church and parish community! I am blessed to be part of such an engaging, diverse Catholic community!

Been coming to church here for two years now and I have to say that it's the best community I've ever been to and it's wonderful to be part of so many ministries (Music, YMA, GLO, Cornerstone, Kenya) and have so many people to know and share life with. The young ministering adults or YMA consists of A group of 50 or more young adults ages 20s to 30s. We have two retreats a year and I have to say that the spring retreat was by far one of the best and most authentic spiritual encounter's I've experienced with so many close friends. It was in Malibu at the Junipero Sarah retreat center and it also happened to be my birthday. Our music ministry is also fantastic and every single mass has versatile and unique choirs who expand the mass experience with large and touching voices. Each Our Father and Gloria are heartfelt and full of joy and the Holy Spirit. The Gay and Lesbian Outreach or GLO ministry establishes a wonderful place for like-minded individuals to meet and converse in a Catholic environment. Hands-down they have the best Thanksgiving dinner and each party has delicious food and is very well put together. The group itself is very welcoming and an overall a really fun time. Cornerstone involves testimonies and there is one retreat for men and one retreat for women each year. It's definitely been one of the most unique experiences I've ever been to and really helped me with self realization and a nurturing environment to express oneself and become closer to God. Currently I'm also training for the LA Marathon and it's all in part with Veronika's Place. The funds we raise cover the cost of food to help keep over 300 men and women fed and also to guy medications in Dandora, Kenya. Saint Monica's Catholic Community is my home church and I am proud to go to mass every day and to write this Yelp. :)

But if you check its website, you find that it's part of the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA). When you scroll down to look at the Pacific Crossroads leaders, you may notice that there are no women pastors or elders there--maybe even no deacons. If you check out the PCA on Wikpedia, you find a complicated history on attitudes toward women.  For many years PCA interpreted the Bible to forbid women in leadership (never mind the many women mentioned as leaders, including Junia "prominent among the apostles" - Romans 17:6). But in 2016, the PCA voted to reconsider, and more recently they voted to allow women to be ordained; they also allowed any member churches who disagreed to continue refusing to ordain as a matter of conscience.  Then the PCA voted to rescind the "conscience clauses," so some churches that objected to women pastors left the denomination. Pacific Crossroads looks like a church that continues to refuse having women in leadership though it retains ties to the PCA, which has so recently changed. Maybe Pacific Crossroads just hasn't gotten around to electing a woman as elder or hiring a woman pastor.  Or maybe it's holding out against these changes. Whatever the case, you need to know these things when you decide to join this friendly group of Bible-believing Christians.

I spent those first weeks in the back sitting on the floor crying. I felt so free and just ok to be myself for once. It has definitely been a hospital for me. It's been 3 years now and I'm so grateful that I was introduced to this community. I've grown spiritually, mentally and emotionally. I'm still growing and figuring myself out but where I am now is without a doubt due to Jesus Christ and the heavy presence he places over this church. The amazing leadership team at Evergreen take their own personal relationships with Jesus very seriously and it makes me trust them so much more. If you're looking to get more involved in the community, I highly recommend checking out all of the greenhouse groups and see which one works for you. Also look into the volunteer teams! I joined the prayer walk team for a time and that is where I made a lot of friends. I'm looking to see where else I can be of use because I seriously love this community and see myself staying here for a long time. I wanna grow with this place.

The entire pastoral and leadership team are sold-out lovers of Christ, and their authenticity is undeniable. From the moment I stepped into this church, I was overwhelmed by the love of God through the Holy Spirit--I instantly knew I had found my church home. Deep calls out to deep. Like anything worthwhile in life, building community takes effort. If you're looking for connection, I strongly encourage you to start volunteering right away. That's how you meet the "good eggs"--the ones who value serving, consistency, and commitment, just as Christ's love compels us to show up for one another. Think of it like planting a tree: roots are necessary for fruit to grow. Attending once or twice and making a judgment doesn't do justice to what this church has to offer. Plug in, get to know people. You can't microwave friendships or a sense of belonging. But according to scripture when you refresh others, Jesus refreshes you--and serving is one powerful way to experience that. If you're visiting for the first time, welcome. I hope you'll take that next step and get involved. Life isn't easy, in fact Jesus warned us there will be trials and tribulation, but He has overcome. Finding people who draw from His well of life is a rare gem, but I've met some of the most solid, faith-filled people here at Evergreen LA. From a city of Angels Native, Amy & God bless you!

I mean, not only is it in an original, historical (and beautiful) church building constructed by Aimee Semple McPherson, the church still practices the original Pentecostal doctrine that Foursquare was once famous for. Pastor Rob Scribner, the senior pastor, is a sharp guy -- a great Bible teacher -- with an inspiring testimony as a former NFL football player and succesful business man. His family is active in the church and his children have excellent testimonies. I wish more Foursquare Churches operated like this one. There is a lot of spiritual life here and the Church has a large Spanish ministry and a Christian School. They seem to be very active in Church planting and missionary work as well. The only downside is the limited parking as the area has grown up around the original property since it was established almost 90 years ago. Worth visiting on a Sunday!
