It's affordable, has flexible hours/schedules for full and part time, great communication from all the warm and nurturing director & office manager & teachers, a great play & learn schedule tailored to each class/age group, and a clean and loving environment. You can really see the love of teaching and working with children from the caring staff. They are currently gearing up for the free Pre-K program, are licensed, all the employees are background checked and accredited. They take great precautions to clean, sanitize all surfaces and toys, and send home notices to parents/caregivers. They encourage parent/caregiver involvement, are gentle in discipline practices and resolutions, offer connections to developmental therapy services for children needing it, and care for your child with respect to how you do things at home. They offer flexible payment schedules as well as payment methods. I know that if someone had some real constructive criticism or needed a solution, the administration would be open to hearing it and working with someone who is unhappy to make that turn around. My advice: GO SEE THIS SCHOOL AND MEET THE STAFF FOR YOURSELF! You'll definitely be glad you did :)

A total of five families - that I know of - were "let go" from the school because the management was pushing out full-tuition paying kids to make space for government-assisted kids. During the 14 months our kids attended Sunset Park Children's School, our overall experience with the care takers was mostly positive, despite the 30-40% turnover rate. The teachers had a number of activities that our children enjoyed, and there was a good emphasis on playing outdoors and reading. As for the management, I have zero positive things to say, since they are one of the worst communicators I've ever seen. Both teachers and parents complained about management and were constantly fed-up with poor administration of policies, rules, rates, payments, etc. Since entire daycare is in the basement of a church, with small windows in two of the four areas, it's not the best physical environment for young children to spend most of their days, especially in the winter time when going outdoors is not an option. Sunset Park still lacking in high-quality childcare options, you may be better off trekking your children up north to Park Slope or down south to Bay Ridge.

Every morning we are greeted with a chorus of warm friendly hellos and it is such a welcoming environment. My kids teacher is phenomenal, I have had the pleasure of seeing how she structures her classroom and makes all the activities fun and educational. It was frustrating to see the school regularly hire individuals who were clearly unqualified often coaches without teaching credentials, friends, and relative. One example that stood out was my economics possibly history teacher, who also coached the girls' basketball team at the time. He routinely displayed impatience, dismissed my efforts to ask questions, and made it clear he'd rather sit at his desk than actually engage with students who want to understand the material while some other teachers were gladly happy that I was asking questions and participating and class. It felt like trying to learn was treated as an inconvenience and met with condescending demeanor. This was my last couple years at Naz as an A student. Like the previous commentator too many staff were comfortable raising their voices at students and even parents, which created an unnecessarily hostile environment. I truly hope the school has made changes since then, because students deserve teachers who are there to teach and challenge them not just hold a title. I heard there's a new principle and hopefully things have changed since then.

One example area the supposed college preparatory classes which are watered down and don't prepare students for the reality of college courses. The students jokingly refer to the school as public school with a Catholic school uniform. Informed parents, please make sure you consider all your other options.

Upon entering the daycare at age 1 we saw him transforming into independed little person and it was fascinating to see how much knowledge he brought home each day at such young age. Any learning was incorporated into fun games or activities and some of the teachers we had should have gotten an award for going all out on transforming the classroom based on the theme fo the month. Baby #2 entered CA at age 4 months and I had absolutely no fear or hesitation trusting the staff with my child. Those ladies are on top of their game and they keep you informed with messages and photos throughout the day. Even infants have music and yoga classes! Side note director and the staff were extremely patient and supportive when my kid was going though prolonged potty training transition, delayed speech, etc. They also recognized and encouraged his positive qualities. Each child is different and unique and from my observation staff recognizes and utilizes different approaches. My son's class graduated from CA knowing all pre-K material (based on conversations with other parents) and all the learning was done though play, songs and fun. If a child gets upset the daycare is closed for the weekend or holiday, that pretty much tells you how they feel about going there :)

We want our children to be bilingual and we're thrilled that both have entered a dual language english/Spanish program. We visited a number of schools and sought the the advice of countless friends and family before finally being introduced to Pine Street school. We attended an informational social which gave us the opportunity to meet faculty, parents, students, and learn more about the IB program and curriculum - we were blown away by the enthusiasm of the teachers, the global exposure the students had, and the close knit community we encountered there. But it was our children's response that really informed our decision to apply as they were eager to spend more time with everyone they met that evening and excited to learn more about the school. Fast forward to today and we couldn't be happier with the decision that we made. Pine Street School truly supports the whole child: the curriculum is rigorous and engaging, and we visibly see how they are preparing our children to go out and make a difference in the world. Students go on more field trips than any other school I've encountered - they really make sure that they have an opportunity to go out and experience the world. It is apparent that the thoughtful approach to learning supports the development of our children intellectually, emotionally, and socially and we couldn't be more pleased. And they continue to impress us and exceed our expectations, especially during this unprecedented time where our children need more love, support and consistency than ever; they are the only school that I know of that offers 4.5 hours of synchronous learning each day while school is physically closed due to social distancing! Incredible! They have managed to maintain the academic standards and preparation that we've become accustomed to during this challenging time: it doesn't get more committed than that. That's what Gold Material (Kings Hwy) did to us in 2015. Their excuse? My husband is not Russian and wouldn't understand dance instruction. Mind you, the school instruction is not in Russian, and my 3yr old daughter spoke Russian fluently and could recite Pushkin's 3 page poems by heart. Their reasoning (that my husband is not Russian) was documented on email (they responded to me via email, see attached screenshot). I, of course raised a big stink about it and they promptly "dismissed" my child from their school - 2 months before her official preschool graduation and 1 month before her birthday. Once our attorney contacted them, they tried to change the story and lie that we were late with payments. Of course, I had screenshots of their payment screens as they forgot to take away our login access and our bank statements proving our timely payments. The admins/owners of the school are despicable, rude and have zero empathy (could it be a sign of certain disorder?) Owners Alexandr and his daughter in law Varvara Radimushkina are obnoxious, rude and treat parents with primitive "fresh off the boat from Russia" tendency. See other reviews that specifically talk about the administration's rudeness. Here's an example: The school turns off all lights and leaves children to sit in pitch darkness 10 mins after school closing. Having been late just 1 time to pick up my child due to severe snowstorm traffic, I personally witnessed this first hand. Send your child to this school at your own risk.

From good exposure to arts and science to social activities that encourage children to become fully aware of their surroundings. The school is fairly diverse, which is so important for my mixed-race family.
