While the school presents itself as caring and faith-centered, many teachers and administrators create an environment that feels judgmental and discouraging. Several teachers make rude or sarcastic comments toward students. Mr. Picon often makes snarky remarks and argues with students in an unprofessional way. Mrs. Rodriguez has also made passive-aggressive comments, including responding sarcastically when students are confused. Many students complain about how discouraging she can be. Mrs. Beal is also known for profiling students based on one mistake and continuing to treat them differently afterward. Students feel that she gossips about them with other teachers and administrators instead of handling situations professionally. She frequently walks the halls looking for minor uniform or dress code violations, such as rolled skirts, AirPods, lanyards, or even students wearing the "wrong" shirt on certain days. When confronted, she often comes across as rude and judgmental and does not show the grace or understanding that the school claims to value, despite constantly referring students back to the handbook. Mrs. Shawver is also difficult for many students to approach because of her rude, snappy attitude and the way she speaks to students. Mr. Amadeo frequently pushes his personal political beliefs onto students, even during biblical discussions where politics should not be the focus. He often presents his personal opinions as completely correct because "the Bible says so" and makes students feel unintelligent for questioning or disagreeing with him. Students have felt embarrassed in front of the class after being called "stupid" and "an idiot" for thinking that way and treated like their opinions were worthless for simply challenging a point or asking questions. Some staff members seem more focused on catching students doing wrong than helping them. Mrs. Fox and Mrs. Cole are known for strict dress code enforcement and often come across as judgmental when disciplining students. Some punishments also feel humiliating rather than helpful. There have been reports of inappropriate comments from staff, including Mrs. Cole calling girls "sluts" for rolling their skirts. Mr. Peters, one of the vice principals, often makes students feel intimidated rather than supported. Mr. Purtic makes some students uncomfortable by discussing personal topics too often and showing favoritism. Coach Leighton has also asked students overly personal questions that felt inappropriate. The previous owner (Edma) was very nice people and you had some really good teachers. Like any school, not all teachers are perfect but most genuinely care about the children. It's also frustrating when you're told to pay the weekly dues by a certain day but there's never someone at the front desk when you arrive. Then by WED, you're told that they'll waive the late fee as a courtesy. It wouldn't be a problem if a) There was someone at the desk to take our payment and b) The school would keep the credit card info on file so they could just charge it. We're told that's not possible to do but yet other schools will apparently do that for you just fine. Very frustrating when you just want to drop off your child and get to the office. Several parents have taken their children out of ABC and I don't doubt others will too. Hopefully the school will sort out their issues and work on their customer service skills before they lose more customers and teachers.

So, in less than 2 weeks of my daughter being there, she had her hair pulled 3 times (by the same boy) and was intentionally kicked by a boy that was going down the slide too soon (right behind her). Now, I know these kind of things happen. Boys will be boys, right? The problem was that the teacher claimed to have seen none of this. No discipline was handed down to any of these kids after she was informed of their behavior either. My wife wrote a letter to the teacher explaining the situation (the letter has to be handed to an administrator as this is the only way that you can initiate contact with a teacher, by the way). The teacher called her over later that day to discuss it. In addition to the extreme defensiveness and bad attitude she displayed, she accused my daughter of "instigating" these situations. The same daughter that was very shy and intimidated by going to a new school AND that won a Character Education Award for best self control in her entire age group the year before! Sound like an "instigator" to you? She also made up a lie about my daughter handing another kid a pair of scissors and asked that she cut her hair (she has never had a haircut and is scared of getting one). So, we requested a sit down meeting. As we found out in short order at this meeting, there was no attempt to offer a solution to this issue as the teacher (and the 2 other administrators there) were only concerned about defending the teacher. No empathy whatsoever for the student, just "were right and you're wrong". We withdrew her after this meeting. They couldn't care less about disciplining bad behavior or admitting any kind of fault or expressing empathy toward the student. Stay away!
