I visited Christ the Savior church for part of an assignment and I felt immediately comfortable with the congregation and inside the actual building; a rare find for me as usually I feel out of place and awkward in places of worship. For those who aren't familiar with the religion the services last quite a bit longer than any other Christian services I have been too; we were there for almost two hours on a Sunday morning. Almost the entire service is sung and the rituals of the religion are beautiful. If you're moving to the area and looking for an Eastern Orthodox church to practice at; I'd definitely recommend this church. Father Kostoff is an amazing guy and a great teacher, he is passionate about the religion and the church and it shows. If you aren't part of the faith, I'd still recommend checking it out...new religious experiences are beneficial for everyone!

Music is a big part of mass and the God-given talent we heard was very inspiring. I actually went up to the pianist/singer and the woman who sang the most after mass to tell them how much I was moved by them. The woman said she could tell because she was watching my face (I was near the front). Next, it was asked that all visitors stand up and we were welcomed warmly and asked which church we came from. Then if anyone who was celebrating an anniversary, would they stand. It just so happened our friends were celebrating their 45th anniversary and it was a nice touch. Our priest spoke from the heart in regards to stewardship, the parish cook out that day, the readings and it's application in real life, and their Virtus program to help protect the children. His mantra with that regard was "if you see something, say something". Simple, yet powerful words. The next Sunday was to be Hat Day where everyone was invited to wear a hat. Apparently, they had held their first annual church bazaar where many hats were bought/sold. Sounds like fun. Parishioners got out of their seats to give the sign of peace which is something I personally prefer. I also liked that in their prayer list there was a section of people either in hospitals or nursing homes and where they can be found in case you wanted to visit or send a card. That is a sweet idea and one I hadn't seen before. All in all, I felt very uplifted by the entire experience and would gladly go again.

One of the reasons we stayed was that the people are friendly. Note: if you are in a wheelchair or have difficulty walking, park in the large back parking lot - there's a ramp up to the building's doors, and another inside to the actual church entrance at the "el"(on your right as you enter) side. Need help? Just ask - we (my late wheelchair- using husband and I) found folks helpful.

The same priest who was a St. Bartholomew gave the sermon here as they are sister churches. However, this is the priest who laughs at what he says a little too often and without warrant. We all loved the choir with accompanying musicians. Besides the pianist, there were people who played guitar, clarinet, tambourine and drums. Particularly there was one singer who really got into the music and that is a good thing. There was a little more spirit in their songs which we all appreciated, too. As we looked at the bulletin, we were surprised by just how much this church does! Very impressive. Would recommend.
