This is an older church located in an up and coming area of La Puente. The setup of the church is awkward. The altar is located in the center of the church with pews surrounding it on both sides. I do like the icons located throughout the church. The stained glass is a favorite feature of mine as well. I'm sorry about the 3-star review but I'm a lover of basilicas and gothic designs. Come early or you'll be standing for an hour. The penitent man will pass...

We have been on several sites, starting at Second and Evergreen. It has always been a friendly, vibrant growing church, whose members are welcoming, helpful and very accommodating . Please come! I…read morehave been going to Evergreen Baptist since the pre-hive for quite a few years now, and every Sunday I've visited, I have always looked forward to hearing Pastor Cory preach. I am currently attending another church, but is considering on coming back to SGV. This church indeed is on the right track. We'll see. The beauty of this church is the ample amount of open space it has for the church goers in terms of parking, the beautiful sanctuary, the nice basketball courts, and most importantly... feeling God's presence there as it feels like a retreat. The sermons here always strikes a chord as it is Biblically oriented. Pastor Cory's pastoral staff is amazing. Every pastor's sermon is mostly effective and also inspires the congregation. It always serves as a reminder on who God is. The worship team here is genuinely spiritual and not as flashy compared to other churches I have been to. They are all about leading the congregation through song and worship as we move forward in our Spiritual Journeys. The Sunday Church Service here is casual. There is no need to dress up when coming. Feel free to wear shorts, t-shirts, or whatever your heart desires. Just dress appropriately. They have two services. The first service is 8:00 a.m. and the second service is at 11:00. Depending on which Sunday or if it's a holiday, the congregation seems more packed. Yes, every church or any organization have cliques... in response to one of the other reviews I read. And there is no such thing as a perfect church. I love Evergreen!

Being new to the area, we were reluctant to leave the comfort of our parish in La Habra, just a 20…read moreminute drive "over the hill." But that 20 minute drive turned into 80 minutes when my wife or I had to drop our daughter off at catechism then pick her up again. After a year of that, it was time to take the plunge and make St. John Vianney our new parish. One thing about this parish is that they want you to participate. Unlike OLG, catechism isn't drop off. It's parent participation. And the little ones, I'm talking 5 and 2 year olds, have a daycare there, too, so they participate as well. As much as my wife and I were hesitant about this parent participation stuff, we actually enjoy it. In fact, it has brought us, as a family, closer, both to each other and to the Church. Becky is just great and she was soooo kind to let my little ones participate in the children's Christmas mass as shepherds. Monsignor Tim is a great homilist and is welcoming and transparent, especially with regards to the failings of the church recently with all the scandals. He extends a welcome to all who believe, not just those who conform; that means all are welcome regardless of sexual orientation; divorce or past experience. Fr. Egren has a passion to bring out the passion in the parishioners and a penchant for the dramatic with his Christmas presentation and the upcoming veneration of St. John Vianney's heart. Fr. James, who is also a physician, brings insight into Asian perspectives and challenges in non-Christian countries. The parishioners themselves, are so welcoming and understanding, especially when you have four little ones like I do. And there is a sense of belonging that you just have to experience for yourself to truly understand. My two little boys have a sense of comfort in attending mass and just enjoying the church. After all, it's God's home and He wants us to feel comfortable in His home. Sure, there are those who have complained that the church is too sterile or not as traditional, but the building does not make the church. The people do. Personally, I like the simplicity of it all. Parking can be a bit of challenge or frustration, so go early to get a spot or park on the field and walk a little... And I read the comments about those who can't understand the priest due to his accent. But that is no reason not to attend nor a reason to complain. You get out of mass what you put in to it. To better understand the mass and any celebrant, literally or figuratively, I suggest viewing Bishop Barron's series on the Mass. This parish has been through a lot with the burning of the old church and the fund raising and building of the new one. But through it all, it has proven to be a wonderful place of worship and a welcoming community of parishioners.
