Started going here 10 years ago when my last church split. I wanted a church that really speak to…read moreme and would make me excited to go! The first time I went- I was hooked! I loved the music, the liveliness and most importantly the message. What Jeff said, was exactly what I needed to hear! Although, I have not achieved the sense of community due to the size- I am so happy with the pastors the messages and the feeling I get when I leave. Both of my kids have been baptized here, my youngest has been on mission trips and leads her own group. I am grateful to call this my "home" church.

The church itself is beautiful and vintage with a beautiful steeple and organ pipes within. It appears to be built to glorify God, with all its beauty and splendor, which pleases me and adds to my worship experience. They have 3 services currently: 9 am , which is classic with traditional hymns. 10;30 am, which has modern music 10:30 am, Spanish speaking service There are classes after church for those who desire to attend. They have community groups, and lots of ways to be involved, The lead pastor, James, is a great speaker and teacher. He is truly a man of God. He is humble, kind and radiates Jesus. The Spanish speaking pastor also has the same qualities as pastor James. There is a child's pastor, Cameron. He also is kind, patient, humble and radiates Jesus. I attend every Sunday, and Every Sunday, I leave with inspiration to better myself, as well as the comfort that only comes from the Holy Spirit. I cannot say enough good things about this Church. The "modern church services" caught my attention and this was our first time attending the church…read more The services began at 10:45am so we were able to eat breakfast get ready and headed over there. They opened up with music and prayer, had treats for the kids and gave an introduction. They dimmed the lights and began the Spider-Man movie. It wasn't the entire movie but the clips were long enough to keep my daughters attention for the pause. They paused the scene, used the same background of the pause and the pastor appeared as if he was part of the movie. He'd then correlate the scene with the word of God along with scripture. Then began another another movie scene and the pattern repeated. The video was done extremely well and I was quite impressed. The belief of God has slowly and steadily been fading away but fortunately this church has an innovative pastor willing to take a modern approach that will surely bring back the faith. I absolutely love this school! My daughter started here for kinder and after just a few months she…read moreknew everyone in the office, kids from higher grades, and so many of the parents. It's such a friendly environment here and it truly feels like a family here. The office Manager Edie, is so friendly and informative and is always so helpful. I'm sad I didn't know about this school sooner to have started my daughter here in TK. I did for my middle son and he is now here too, in TK. There are service hours and fundraising required, like all private, Catholic schools. The best part about this school is that the fundraising is "per family." For example, the fundraising at St. Chris doesn't change in amount if you have one child or three. It's also less than some surrounding schools. Other surrounding schools I checked prior to choosing St. Christopher have their set amount "per child." Most were $1,000 so if you have three kids, you have to fundraise $3,000 per school year. At St. Chris, the fundraising is $700 and whether you have one child, two, or more...it stays the same. The service hours are 40 per school year and there are so many opportunities to get them done, or you can pay them up front if you do not have time for this. If you're from a single parent home the hours are less than 40. The school has morning and after school program for those parents that work early or late. They offer a per session or a monthly option. They have a carline for parents who find it convenient to drop off their kids, or you have the option to also walk them to class. The afternoon pickup is carline where the kids hop into the car and the little ones, TK and kinder get picked up at the gate. They have events like father daughter dance, field trips, family picnics, jog a thon, family bbq, movie night, Halloween haunted house, Halloween trunk or treat, fiesta, Christmas performances with dinner, and other awesome get togethers that make the school even closer. The TK and kinder class have "buddies" from 7th and 8th grade which they love. They sit with them during mass on Wednesdays and they also do little gift exchanges during Christmas and form great relationships with the bigger kids. They have music class with Mr. George who the kids absolutely love! He is also so good with the kids and teaches them all the great songs for their performances. He runs the choir so your child will get to know him if they're in choir. Recently there was a change and two grades got integrated into one class. It was a bit scary to think of this but like many schools that have thrived doing this, the kids here are thriving and because of smaller class sizes the kids are doing great! Many parents were worried and left, and that's understandable. For us that stayed, we are realizing that it has no negative effect on their school performance and in fact, there is more time available for extra instruction. Our principal also formed a marketing committee group with the parents to help us brainstorm ideas on how to help the school. She has been open to our ideas and has made some positive changes. The integration of two grades in a class has also made my children get closer with the next class up. The school feels closer than ever as we are helping in every way to keep it going as it has a rich history here in the city of West Covina. I love this school! Once a charger, always a charger! My cousin was getting married in October 2019 here and her fiancé is not catholic but Christian based as well as well as caucasian and does not understand or speak Spanish. So they made my cousin ( Latina) jump through all these hoops and had all these demands as well as demanding they know what kind of music they orchestra would play and if they had ever performed during a catholic ceremony etc. Which I contentedly understand, it's the house of God, it's should be respected. So we had the band rehearse songs that the church specifically asked ( Responsorial Psalm). No problem, done! She asked and met with the priest and they decided on a bilingual ceremony since her fiancé didn't speak Spanish. Fast forward to the day of the wedding. 1. The priest was a no show... no excuse, no explanation from anyone, nothing 2. Not one microphone was on 3. A visiting priest from mexico showed up in sandals super late and had absolutely no idea what was happening or maybe he had never performed a wedding before. It was a disaster 4. The priest didn't speak a lick of English and kept asking the groom questions ‍ The whole family was horrified. The band was completely caught off guard and didn't know when to play since the priest seemed to be wining it in his own way 5. So pretty much the priest made him repeat sounds and words during the vows. So something that was supposed to be beautiful and traditional, the reason she chose for a catholic ceremony was completely a joke at this point. My poor aunts who attend the that church left crying and so upset, while the non Catholics asked us if that's how all Catholics ceremonies are. This is one of the biggest reasons the younger generations are leaving the church, if the priests don't even care, why should anyone else. Ive never been so embarrassed in my life

I want to be able to connect to the priest that will help guide me as well as the rest of the Catholic Community into living a better life. I want a priest that would guide rather than reprimand or make you feel like a horrible person therefore leading to feeling uncomfortable and being pushed away. I've come to different mass times and have always felt welcome and at ease. All their priests have been very helpful and explain the lecture well enough for me to understand. Being a newbie a few years ago to Azusa, I wasn't sure how the community at this church would be but they all have been very welcoming and Wilson and I have even made a few new friends here. You tend to see the same people at the same spot at the same time on the same day but its nice to get to know them and even call them by name. The youth group as well as other groups in the church are active and has different activities through out the year. In all the masses' we've attended, even on the holly days, we've never had any trouble finding a place to sit. Parking is a bit difficult and crowded on the church grounds so we recommend parking at APU.
