This is our second year of frequenting this particular fish fry and we enjoy it more than any others we have attended. Group of 8 of us had the fried fish, baked fish, fried shrimp, onion rings, green beans, greens, stewed tomatoes, Cole slaw, French fries, cherry pie, apple pie, unsweetened tea, beer, and brownies. One person said the onion rings were inedible, but complimentary of all other items. Two in the group said their fish filets were cold, but since mine and others were hot it's assumed they were from different batches and not under the heat lamp? We attended 3 of these fish fry dinners last year and the lines this year were twice as long, so assuming popularity is off the charts. Lines moved fairly fast and pie slices were sold out in the first hour. It also appeared every seat was taken in the hall and turned over at least once, maybe twice again. Takeout is also available and the lines were shorter for takeout. Large parking lot and easy accessibility. Volunteers are very nice and friendly. Looking forward to next Friday's fish fry and those thereafter until the end of this Lenten season on Friday, 3/27/26.

Of which I was eternally grateful. I got a fish sandwich, a slice of cheese pizza and a baked potato. The potato was very tiny, and had a large purple bruise which meant I could only eat half. The pizza was basic and fine. The fish was kind of blah but they had the best tartar sauce out of any church fish fry I have ever been to so thats amazing. People watching was very good. All in all an acceptable experience.

The fish tacos were a good hit in addition to the hush puppies. Beer, water, and soft drinks are available as well as a select dessert. It can get busy but they move the line quickly. There will be a little wait once ordering. One funny experience my adult daughter had was that a young child told her she had to be a member to go to the fish fry. This is not the case :)

I really enjoy this church…read more My wife and I are currently looking for a new church, and we've had a few on our radar. Third Avenue is one of the better ones in the city. The reasons are as follows: * The senior pastor, Greg Gilbert, is a very good expositor of the Word of God. He teaches through the Bible line by line, verse by verse. Good, proper exegesis (fancy word for rightly interpreting a text) that is edifying, educational, and challenging. * It is a very conservative church with a conservative approach on how they conduct themselves in the service. Historically, the church has usually had very orderly services, following some sort of liturgy. There are all sorts of debates going on about what a church's liturgy should look like, but often times those debates miss the point. Third Avenue is very orderly in their approach. * The music is beautiful and uplifting, and the lyrics to the songs and hymns glorify the Savior. Third Avenue has a beautiful mix of old and new. If you prefer old hymns, this is the place for you. If you prefer new hymns, this place is for you. Whether new or old - just make sure they focus on the Lord Jesus Christ. Third Avenue nails it. * The Sunday School structure is fantastic. Often times, when you go to a church, the Sunday School classes are divided based on life stage. If you're a teenager, you go to room 102. If you're in college or under the age of 30, then you go to room 104. If you're between 30-40, we call that the 'Married & Family' class, and you go to room 106. Etc. Etc. Etc. Well, Third Avenue doesn't do this. They base their Sunday School classes on topic. Would you like to learn on topic xyz? Go to room 102. Topic abc - go to room 104. And so forth. The reason this is so brilliant - often times in Christian circles, we tend to alienate people that don't "fit in" with our labels. If you are segregating Sunday School classes on life stage, where does the 40-something single lady go? She's too old for this one, but she isn't married with children for this one... So guess what you've done. You just made that woman feel even more lonely and isolated than she already did before attending your church. Third Avenue has recognized this and nails it. Huge props to them. * The theology of the church is very sound. The church is a 9 Marks church, and many of the members are students and graduates of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. The training of these people, and the teaching in the church will be heavily Calvinist, Reformed Baptist, which is a very conservative, historic, Biblical viewpoint. I really can't say enough good things about the church. It's in a good area. It has a very vibrant, lively membership... If I had to nitpick one thing, and this is the reason why my wife and I will likely not be joining... a lot of the members are students at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. When these people graduate, they will likely be moving away from the area and to a new church. I suspect that the church has a hefty turnover rate in its membership. We'd like to be involved in a church that has a bit more stability in its membership role. Mind you, I'm assuming on this point, but I think my assumption is a fair one. I could go on, but I think you get my point. If you're in the Louisville area, and you're looking for a new place to call your church home, check out Third Avenue Baptist Church.

The sermons are…read moreexegetical (explaining a Bible passage) so I'm constantly learning, especially when the passage is on an Old Testament or less common book in the Bible. The community is very warm and welcoming. Also people aren't afraid to sing loudly. Some songs are contemporary, some are quite old. Regardless of whether I already know the song or not, I really appreciate the lyrics of the songs we sing.

I really enjoyed my visit to Crescent Hill Baptist Church this morning!…read more The auditorium is classically beautiful, but with some modern updates (sound system, etc.). Greetings were warm but not overbearing. I felt welcome. The congregation was interesting and diverse. The church has many Thai Karen members, and it was great to see that the English and Karen-speaking people function as one church body. The church makes nice use of technology and uses headsets to provide a Karen translation of the sermon, etc. The music was excellent in this morning's service. There were traditional hymns, as well as some more modern music. There was both piano and organ, but the organ didn't overwhelm the congregational singing. There was also special music accompanied by guitar. Crescent Hill's young pastor, Jason Crosby, delivered a clear, interesting message. In summary, I was impressed by this church. I'll be back!
