But it is mentioned in the Domesday book (as Plaidenham), and has a fine and largely unrestored - late 12th century church, tucked just off the main road. From the outside, the most notable feature is the slender shingled broach spire, atop a robust Norman tower. The interior betrays the change from round Norman arches in the three easternmost bays of the nave, to Early Gothic arches in the westernmost bay, and under the tower. A small Norman window in the north aisle also testifies to a possibly older past. But its treasures are its fittings: first amongst equals is the rare but astonishing decorated gothic wooden screen between the north aisle chapel and the tower. This has complex ogee work forming medallions above turned columns, and is believed to date from around 1310. The chancel is screened by a later Perpendicular screen, simpler but still handsome. Under the tower itself is an ancient ladder there is no staircase which has been dated to 1686. Alas, it is no longer safe to use. Finally, in the north aisle is an unusual memorial stone, featuring two casks and a crossed matchstick and fork. It commemorates a Flemish brewer, Cornelis Roetmans who was buried here in 1530.

The old church hall used to be across the road on the Main Street but was knocked down in 1989 so Kirk View a housing scheme for elderly folks could be built. The new church hall now sits beside Blantyre Old Parish Church which is much handier. I recently attended the church's annual summer fete so it was mighty heavin'. Apart from it being the most mingyest day with rain, rain and more rain it was a really busy. Celtic legend Billy McNeil MBE came to open the fete and crown the beautiful Gala Queen. Most stalls were outside on the grounds with very soggy vendors. Inside in the large hall was the tea room which was full to the brim. There was also a chocolate fountain on the stage. Yum!! Alongside some other stalls including cupcakes and jewellery. The small hall they had set out a lovely spread for the Gala Queen and her escorts. They were using the fire exit which has stairs to allow people into the large hall for their tea but the church hall also has disabled access at the front entrance and the whole building is all on one floor. The church hall has one large hall with a stage, small hall, session room, kitchen, ladies and gents toilets including a disabled toilet. The hall is used regularly for various community and church groups every week. It's a great wee place for meeting friends with a great sense of community spirit.

Large, stunning parish, set at the heart of Motherwell…read more Unfortunately looks onto shops and is right in the bus lane, which causes a lot of disruption if there is a wedding or funeral happening. Massive inside, very traditional and exceptionally lovely when all done up for a wedding. My friend used to live in the Parish residence, as her dad is the Vicar! He even married her at her wedding at Dalziel! Near to GLO Christian centre, with plenty of car parking at the rear.

I've likened Peebles to Scotland's version of the American Gatlinburg or Solvang. Anchoring this bustling downtown is the mighty Gothic structure known as The Old Parish Church, a Presbyterian congregation under the umbrella of the Church of Scotland. The building seats 1,300 people, and most of the stained glass was designed by artist Daniel Cottier who once worked with the legendary Vincent van Gogh. Cottier died of a heart attack in Jacksonville, Florida, not long after finishing the windows at this church. The edifice was built between 1885 and 1887, replacing an earlier church that dated to 1784. It was designed by architect William Young who build Glasgow City Chambers and South Kensington Museum. The glass entrance inside the church is a newer feature donated in 1965. Flags draped throughout the sanctuary are dedicated to local military regiments that fought in the early 19th century. If visiting Peebles, stepping inside this quiet cathedral is a must. You'll be all alone and free to wander about this Scottish landmark without all the crowds of the popular churches in Glasgow and Edinburgh.

The diocese of Saint Paul has stood on the same ground since 1850 and the present church was built in 1957. This is a beautiful place to go for reflection and you are always made welcome by the parish priest, now I don't know if its just me but places like these make me sad and happy sometimes at the same time ( strange but true ) this parish is one of the best attended in the east end of Glasgow and is certainly one of the richest in the diocese compared to a couple just up the road. The interior of this chapel is superb and is in the 'baroc' style and has not changed since I was a child, all in all this is a fantastic place to visit so if your in the area pop in and say hello

I used to get dressed up in a little skirt and cardi with my long socks on and carry my bible in a wee cover, desperate to get there and see all of my friends in time for the Sunday School, which used to be called the Son Seekers. It was a lovely time in my life and i wouldn't have changed it for the world, and a large part of that is down to Roman Road Hall. It is quite a big church with a few different halls, and always has a lot going on, whether it be the usual Sunday Services or Mother and Toddler's groups during the week, the place is always a hive of busyness and excitement. The website gives you full details of the services that are on, although the friendly members would not hesitate to welcome you in if you decide to pop along on a whim. In fact they would be happy to see you there! I don't attend anymore but my mum does, and i am glad i still have that connection to the place. It's little places like this and memories like these that shape your character in life.

It is a large church, with seating for at least 300 people. It is always busy, and the people of Carfin are very loyal to it. I have been in it a good few times over the years for christenings and first communions, and you can tell as soon as you walk in that the chapel is the community. It is the meeting place for most of the residents of the village, and everyone knows each other and are very friendly to newcomers and visitors. The chapel is a nice balance between traditional and modern, and places a huge emphasis on community.

The church caters for all members of the family and is welcoming to young and old alike. They have a large hall to the side of the church which holds clubs throughout the week. I used to take my daughter to their mother and toddler club when she was wee and we both used to enjoy it. I know they also have dancing classes on throughout the week as well as church related activities. They have a fantastic christmas services too .
