I mostly love this place so much because of its ambiance. There are two giant floors filled with mismatched chairs and comfy couches, soft lighting and filled with expats, Germans, students and visitors from all across the world. I would love to sneak away to this place with my PhD work, grab a latte, ginger tea and find a little corner to escape the cold Berlin winter (decidedly more appealing than my cold cubicle at the library). This is a good spot to chill out and people watch. It's located near the Goethe Institute summer house, where I studied for the summer. Half of the charm here is the atmosphere: a cool building, hip-looking staff. But the drinks are good too. I enjoyed many a weiße bier here over the summer. If/when I visit Berlin again, I'll pop in. read more

Agree with the below - this is a great place to relax and work. Always interesting people sitting on laptops, although more mainstream than when I visited three years ago. In the summer you can also sit outside. Great people-watching and friendly staff. Free wifi is clutch. If you need a place to even just hang out and collect your thoughts and sit on your phone or something, come here and feel at home either on the first floor or the slightly cozier upstairs. Prepare to laugh at the soap-on-a-stick in the bathroom. It's quite an erotic experience to use (you'll see what I mean). read more

I used to sit there a lot when I was searching for a new apartment in Berlin. The Wi-fi connection is good, but kinda slow. Besides, you get a feeling of being alone- everyone's on their macbook and no one's socializing- depressing! The drinks are OK, nothing to be amazed of, and the food is quite boring. It is made fresh (one can see their kitchen from Torstr.), but even if you buy there at 09:30 am you get a feeling the food was cut last night. Worst of all for me, they don't serve normal coke, which is too prenzelberg, and they're located in Mitte, hallo!? read more

Great place to be on your computer, study or do work. Ignore the unfriendly staff, and you will be just fine. Never had an especially pleasant experience with the staff, but was never bothered by them either. read more

Liked it a lot. Plenty of space upstairs and wifi was fast (13mbts download) even with everyone on their computers. They have extension cords upstairs so its nice ti work from there. Coffee was decent. Will try the food next time. read more

Lovely, large cafe with good free wifi- although not enough plugs for the size. Food seems fresh and there are always nice choices for vegetarians. Would recommend the soup, you always get a huge portion! Cakes are also delicious, with a good variety and large slices. The building is also well-decorated, quite neutral but stylish, and has a cosy feel, retaining many of the characteristics that show it is an oldbuilding. Prices are ok, not cheap, but not expensive for the quality. Staying there all day can get pricey though when you end up buying a few coffees, and getting tempted by the cakes! read more

An interesting find in Berlin. If you're a digital nomad this is your place. Practically everyone sitting in there has there laptop out and is working on it. Good chai lattes and quiche. Very popular so most seats are usually taken. Free wireless if you're going to go there to work but make sure your battery is fully charged. There's usually a struggle to get to one of the few power outlets. The place is self-service so you have to go and get things yourself. Centrally located in Mitte and definitely worth checking out. Who knows, you may find someone to start a business with if that's your thing. As long as it's in the Web 2.0 space, you're good. read more

Had a cappuccino there and, though it was tasty, it was only lukewarm. That's a no-go! Against what I heart about the place, there were no apple-bearing laptops on all tables. Only upstairs you could find some of them. Fashionable, slick and wifi if you like - but there are definitely better places for having a proper coffee. read more

I was actually really pleasantly surprised on my first visit here the other night. Having lived in Berlin for over five years now, the only way one could not have ever set foot in the place was by careful avoidance. I had maintained a solid wall against St Oberholz for five long years, until I quit drinking. And when you quit drinking, being able to smoke inside becomes less important to you. And drinking a latte and eating a slice of cake at 9pm makes all sense in the world. And you pity the poor fools who have to take their big old beers and froo-froo looking cocktails outside in the cold to smoke. Ha. Suckers. Although the median age of the female employees was around 14, and the service was a little less professional/experienced/whatever else than I'm accustomed to, the ambience was really nice. You get the idea that a good deal of people are there just to use the free internet, and those who don't, come from the hostel across the street, but even for that, they are well-behaved and not bad company. It's suitable for adults of all ages as it is vibrant but subdued. The decor of the place is very unique for Berlin, I thinkpart art-deco, part windy-staircase, part grandma's kitchen, part dusty attic, part hipster chic. The layout is spacious and comfortable but intimate enough not to be cavernous. The latte macchiato was great, the chocolate cheesecake was divine, and I'll be back to try out all the rest of what looks to be a wide selection of housemade cakes. An exquisite taste for subtle charm in lighting, flooring, and furniture detail-opening the ambiance of being placed on a decadent terrace filled with an eclectic crowd of architects, designers, and hipters on their latest ipads and mac book pros or in the midst of a project discussion. The place changes scenery towards the late evening opening to occasional concerts, exceptional lectures, and exhibitions. The only cafe in the world where I can flavor the day over exceptional quality cuisine and pastries whilst working on architectural journal articles from 10am to midnight. read more

I've been at many different times of the day, and it's always a good place to work with your laptop and have a coffee, sandwich, or beer. Music gets loud enough at night that it's not an ideal place to concentrate, but it's still not too loud. Never had a problem finding a seat or a power outlet; the servers are friendly and speak English. It is nice to walk into an english speaking coffee shop in the heart of Berlin, but do not expect an american service. Just like most places in town, this is yet another cash only spot, despite the fact that it is a two storey coffee shop on one of Berlin's most central squares. So I take out my bag of coins, a bit embarrassed, and stack three small piles of mostly yellow coins to make 3,20 euros and pay for my hot chocolate. The (american) waiter who took my order nicely says "you see, we re doing a favour!" I drop off my bag and clothes on a near by stool and return to collect my drink. The waiter now seems annoyed and tells me that the count is not right. So I ask him how much is missing. He simply drops the coins on the counter and says "you count it, that's not my job". I was very upset. I counted again, 10 cents were missing, I added them and told him "by the way, it is your job to count my money" - to which he responded "don't tell me what my job is". Sorry, not sorry. This is no way to treat a customer. read more

Hipstery meets punky meets trendy. A ton of seating but somehow always crowded. Great location. Unfortunately it's pretty dirty and the service is hit or miss. They are good with English speakers though, which I needed. Wifi is free but not awesome. Food tastes okay, but something I ate on my second day there made me quite ill. And this isn't so important, but only icy cold water works in the bathroom so you freeze your fingers off trying to wash your hands - this totally sucks in the winter! read more

Great Place with super tea, coffee and wlan.

One of my new faves! Good coffee, fantastic bagels (I had the avocado one), friendly baristas, a low key feel, and a great work environment. Everybody is on their laptop working on something, it's not overly loud so you can concentrate and they have power outlets everywhere. The perfect place to get some work done. The only shortcomings are that they don't take cards, it's pretty crowded and they really need an AC. read more

i love oberholz - good drinks/ food and hospitality - and i have spent quite some hours really being able to get things done there - open office space. the staff is very friendly, it's always full and good thing to do is just watch people come and go. prices are a little bit high but that's ok cause you get good stuff. best description i have read in a newspaper article i think it was not long ago: the "meeting place of the digital bohème" ;-) read more

High ceilings and large windows make for a pleasant atmosphere and good people watching at Oberholz. Coffee from the self service bar was alright too. Generally had a friendly vibe to it. On the downside, the place was so crowded with students and freelancers and their MacBooks that it was next to impossible to get a table (2pm). Felt a bit like walking into an office. read more
