I've been to Mass here a couple of times, especially during the SF marathon weekend because of its location by the hotels. I've gone on a Sunday morning as well as a Saturday afternoon. Beautiful church, they have a gift shop, very welcoming. Not sure if they have a parking lot but there isn't any street parking out front. Perfect while you're in the area or on vacation. I attended the Sunday afternoon Mass at 5:15pm, glad there is a later option in the day to attend. read more

At this evening's Saturday before Easter Mass, one of your idiot ministers thought it was appropriate to put her filthy hands on me, claiming to do it to get my attention because she didn't see me put the bread in my mouth immediately after receiving it. I don't care what your Eucharistic protocol is, you never put your hands on another person without their consent. No Eucharistic minister has ever shown me that level of disrespect in my life and I'm petty enough to call it out. This is a very nice Church. They have done a lot of work over the years. They have fixed the garden. Painted and resurfaced parts of the ceilings. They have painted statues and put in new tile floors. The church is always clean. This year the outside windows were cleaned by a company. Everyone has done their absolute best to always have a mass. read more

In the area early before a movie at the Metreon, we decided to check out St. Patrick Church across the street. I've walked and driven by this brick church over the years and had always been curious of its history. The church was built in 1851 and served the Irish residential area around it. Though the church withstood the 1906 earthquake, it did suffer major damage but it was completely rebuilt. Walking in the church, you see the elegant architecture of green Connemara marble, and white and gold Botticino marble. The beautiful Tiffany-style stained-glass windows adorn the wall low and high. During this Christmas season, a Nativity scene adorns the left alter. The church currently serves the Filipino community as evidenced by the parol lanterns hanging from the ceiling lights. I enjoy visiting old churches to admire their grand architecture and glad I finally made it to St Patrick. read more

Great place to take in mass while in Downtown or just take a moment of quiet in the middle of the city. St. Patrick's has always been the old church that's been there forever since I was growing up. It's beautiful inside as it is outside. It's towering brick facade and cavernous inside. There is a gift shop near the entrance to the left. It gets many visitors throughout the day so if you're looking for some quiet prayer, you may wanna walk in towards the front more. Located on Mission Street in the shadows of the San Francisco Marriott Marquis hotel. Personally, I like having the church nearby whenever I'm staying in SoMa. Its more than a luxury, it's a saving grace to have it amidst the craziness that is going on just outside its doors. It's a worthwhile visit. You dont have to be Catholic to appreciate the beauty and peace it brings. read more

FIDI's CATHOLIC CHURCH Yesterday was Ash Wednesday. Let's just say nearly everybody Catholic working in the Financial District will come here for service. I've seen this church and walked by it all the time but never went in. I know people who use to go to this church when they were young and have heard how nice it is inside. I attended Ash Wednesday 5:15 mass and it was SO PACKED. Arriving early to get a seat is necessary. Stunning pillars with statues. Not every seat gives a view of the front... Pillars do block views. And so do people. Mass went by fairly quickly, it was done in exactly an hour. Kind if felt rushed but in a good way - it was a fast pace mass session. Receiving bread and the distribution of ashes was like a maze and looked disorganized but I was surprise how fast it was done. Will I be back? I love my cathedral near Fillmore but will attend here when unable to reach services on the other side of town. JABA APPROVED. Until the next review... read more

Although on vacation, we wanted to attend Palm Sunday mass and found St. Patrick's nearby. The outside of this church is unassuming and very ordinary. However, upon walking in, we immediately noticed the altar and beautiful walls that surrounded it. I also noticed a lot of Filipinos in the back of the church. The priest started off the mass with blessing the palms, inciting attendees to stand with him at the back of the church and be part of the procession to the front. I couldn't help but admire the balcony and organ pipes above us. It is truly a gem in the middle of a very hectic area and located on such a busy street. The church was quite full today and it was nice participating in Holy Week mass in such a welcoming parish. I read more

This a beautiful and stunning church located in the heart of San Francisco. It's an old church that has been properly maintained over the years with all the new modern buildings surrounding it. The building still maintains it's rustic charm which I like in older structures. The interior is well decorated with all the statues, stained glass windows, and marble floors. When I stepped in to this church for the first time, I felt the sound of angels echoing across the room. I had the priviledge of getting married at this beautiful church. The priest gave a great sermon and delivered meaningful messages of love. The church may look small and narrow from the outside, but inside it can easily fit 500 people or more. The place is so exquisite that it makes the perfect photo op for weddings, baptisms, and communion. Outdoor photos are also a must for the artistic and architectural buffs. read more

While at the bar, ordering another round of shots, we discussed Lent and how we would both be giving up alcohol. Then we celebrated Fat Tuesday. Oh, what a(nother) night! He told me that he only goes to mass on Ash Wednesday. Then called to tell me that our revelry caused him to miss the morning mass, a meeting coincided with the noon time mass and then asked if I would join him for the early evening mass. I couldn't believe it when I heard myself say Yes. I used to work on Market right behind St. Patrick's. Never once did I think to go. We entered and there was standing room only. We stood in the back and watched as the denizens crowded in. I was oddly surprised at the diversity. It's been a long time since I've gone to mass (please don't tell my parents), and it was strangely comforting. Not to say that I'll make it a habit though. Not much a fan of the newer churches, I found the older architecture, marble floors, and stain glass quite embracing. We went to the five o'clock mass and left at twilight. Exiting from the front, I was rewarded with the most amazing view of the fountains at the Yerba Buena. I would have shot a photo but did not think I could do it justice. Such a nice way to start off Lent. From there, we left, with ashened foreheads, to do what we do best... cause trouble. read more

I've been going to this church for as long as I remember. Although, once I moved to Daly City, that all changed. My family and I migrated to a church more closer to home. Regardless of the distance, I still managed to make moderate trips out to SF just to attend mass here. I even would come out this way during lunch at work to light a candle and say a prayer or two. I never realized how important this church was to me as a child, but growing up I now grasp the faith and comfort I confide in whenever I come here. Candles are $5. Well worth it in my opinion. Tons of people. Large. The plan was to meet up with some friends for mass but when I arrived, I realized what an endeavor that was. There were so many people! Luckily, we eventually all found each other but I was incredibly overwhelmed by how crowded it was and how it made the altar feel that much further away. If it weren't for my friends, I probably would have felt a little more lost here, but really, when you're Catholic and you're at mass just about anywhere, you can't ever really feel that "lost." - or at least I hope not. Easily walkable from the many downtown hotels and shopping areas. Tons of little places nearby to meet up with people post-mass. read more

A perfect example of why the church is dying. I called here to ask if they can help with marriage preparation for my wedding ceremony in Ireland in 4 months time after we were just civilly married in City Hall. The lady on the phone almost started laughing at me and I was told in a very condescending tone that "you can't just walk off the street and get married, you need 6 months notice and preparation!". Riiiight so how did it happen that the next 2 churches I called were more than willing to help me? I get it that there's preparation/classes/paperwork but from what I've gathered from other churches, is the 6 month rule exists to make sure that you give enough time to get things done. If she told me simply and politely that they don't have space/time at the moment and she's sorry but wishes me the best in my marriage anyway, I'd have understood. But telling two people who want to get married under your church a plain and straight "NO YOU CAN'T DO THAT BECAUSE DA RUUULES" was one of the most unChristian things I've ever witnessed. I'm glad I found a church and an amazing priest afterwards who really went out of his way to help me and restored a little my faith in Christianity. Spirituality and love are more important then ever and it really angered me that St. Patrick's Church seems to prefer to close it's doors rather than help people. read more

I had been going to St. Patrick's church since I was a teenager with my grandfather that the church had given the whole family sentimental reasons in coming here. Now, I come visit with my children and wife for special occasions. I long for traditional, classic Roman Catholic Church settings and mass, you'll find it here. My children love to have lunch/dinner after hearing mass at Metreon, Bucca di Beppo or any restaurant around the area. It is located in DTSF surrounded by restaurants, hotels, businesses and public transportation. read more

I'll add something here that I haven't seen others comment on yet: St. Patrick's hosts lunchtime concerts (at 12:30) on tuesdays and wednesdays with some really quality chamber music. They ask for a $5 donation. The place barely fills up and it's all quite nice. A lot of extraneous noises detract a bit from the experience, but this is the kind of thing you just don't get elsewhere. What a nice lunch-time find in the middle of a bustling city. read more

SRO for Ash Wednesday ( you know that day when you're downtown and suddenly half your co-workers have dirt on their foreheads? those are actually ashes and they're there on purpose - ) There's a guy that sells suman and some pretty good filipino tamales outside after the Tagalog mass - but I don't know if he's there every Sunday. This used to be my church for a brief year and a half back when I used to live in the city and even when I moved to Daly City my parents liked going here. As a kid I could care less where we went to church because of the obvious reasons, its boring, long and boring again. Plus I always thought churches were creepy especially with the Statues of Saints and their following eyes. But I learned to appreciate this church BECAUSE its creepy and very Resident Evil like. Its big and you can get a nice echo going at everyone else's expense of course, prayer must be silent I'm told. I remember hearing a story where years ago a young priest hung himself in the church and a few years later a housekeeper next door in the Marriott saw the ghost of the priest from a room she was cleaning and died of fright or some really outlandish crap like that. It'd be cool if it were true though. Its a beautiful church. read more

It was Sunday and as luck would have it, there was a church right next to our hotel, St. Patrick's. How serendipitous! The church is beautiful. I love old school churches. This was built in 1851 which is old by California standards. It originally served the Irish Catholic immigrants back in the day, but now predominantly Filipino Catholics attend this church. Even more serendipitous! I noticed that as soon as we sat down. It reminded me of attending mass at Holy Family in Cerritos when I was growing up. They even have a statue of San Lorenzo Ruiz! Very cool. It was a very good feeling to be there and I am happy we were able to attend mass. The even have a Tagalog mass, too bad we couldn't check it out. read more

I visited San Francisco in 2018 and stayed in the hotel next door to this church. Although not Catholic, I am a fan of churches in general and took the time to visit St. Patrick Church one afternoon. After praying and thinking God that people had built such a beautiful place to worship Him, I was permitted to take some pictures. It was a wonderful, peaceful experience. read more

Beautiful church! Hard to find parking since its downtown and you have to pay for parking everywhere.... The people were very welcoming once we arrived and the place is very clean and put together. The only bad part and maybe it's because it was our first time was that we didn't get to hear the priest say a sermon at all.... They instead played a video during church to talk about donating through out their community. Don't get me wrong we donated and wanted to help! But we wanted also to hear mass... I mean we went to San Fran to tour and stopped our day to attend mass... But oh well I'm sure they have great services, just the day we went all we heard was pls donate money... St. Patrick's is a very beautiful church. Period. And with this wonderful archicecture, it's best to go on a fitting mass.. That mass would be the 10.30am Sunday masses they have, which are sung completley in Latin (latin-english booklets are given out when entering) It's quite surreal and beautiful to hear the hymns echo through such the detailed church.. ..and kinda fun to see newcomers completely baffled at what they got into.. And what's best is that it's right there in front of Yerba Buena gardens.. If you want, you can just begin shopping right after mass, or stop by quickly before your conference begins at Moscone.. It's Sunday June 15, 2014, Father's Day, and we Daly Citizens are ready for a day trip into San Fran. Dad mentioned wanting fajitas so I thought of Tropisueno, right next door to St. Patrick's church. I found $10 parking at a lot down Minna off 3rd and we made our way to 10:30am mass. It would've been nice to know that it was all in Latin. Their website doesn't appear to mention it at all. I don't mind a Latin mass now and again but I was a little disappointed that the choir was up and behind us and weren't really helping us to sing this archaic language. It was nice that the church provided us with a detailed and translated guide to the mass. I was just hoping to participate a little more. The readings, gospel and homily were in English, of course. The art and marble are lovely and I hunted around but couldn't find any explanation of who is on a horse with a white beard and a cross on the back wall in that giant stained glass. Most of the side stained glass was male Irish saints and Irish counties. All in all a nice church. read more

This is a beautiful old church hence the star rating. The music program here USED to be wonderful. In the past year they have managed to dismantle everything that was good. The grand Skinner pipe organ is no longer played and when they do use it, it is played by an amateur and sounds it. They usually have an elderly lady attempt to play an electric organ in front but she must be tone deaf. They used to have a Latin Mass Choir that sang beautifully with the pipe organ and that is gone. This is just a very sad experience now. read more

This place is gorgeous. I love the old doors with the old doorknobs...I go koo koo for that kind of stuff. Old antique keys, doorknobs doors, etc. I was in SF on a Saturday afternoon (to see Curren$y). I was sitting at the benches outside, talking on the cell phone. When I was done with my call, I decided to walk inside. It was so quiet and peaceful...I'm Christian, not Catholic, but I've been to Catholic churches before. This one truly is amazing. I read the bulletin and I really liked what it said about having survived the fires and earthquakes of SF and how it is "unchanged in the face of change". So true... the streets are so noisy outside, but when you come in, all the noise is muted. The city Target and all these shops are right outside but when you go inside the church, it's pristine. Squeaky pews and all, it was nice to sit there and take a break from the outside world. I almost fell asleep but I don't think it would've been proper. If you need to take a break from walking, or just need a quiet moment, this is the place to go. read more
