I'll assume they still have those to distribute for older parishioners who might not have or want to use an electronic device. The kneelers are very heavy to move. Since I'm sure the cathedral gets many guests, I'd like to see a few more directional signs - as many of us entered for the wedding, I frequently heard, " Where do I enter?" or "Am I supposed to take the elevator?" But once you get past those things, you'll enjoy the experience.

As a modern cathedral, this one in Hartford is absolutely stunning and is as magnificent as any of the above. I arrived on a weekday and was already impressed by the imposing exterior. Surprisingly, the doors were unlocked and the cathedral is open. Masks are still required in late May. There was no one in the central nave or at the altar. The structure was empty and very quiet. It made for some lovely pictures and afterwards, I took a seat and had a moment of reflection. There is free parking outside and as I mentioned, the building is open. The music is fabulous and you can participate in the service in person or at home via Livestream. They really make a difference in Hartford by giving organizations like ConnectiKids - a non-profit that supports kids after school with tutoring and Spectrum in Motion which is an inner city ballet company that has great summer programs for kids space in their building for their operaitons. . They also serve a community meal after services and support the neighborhood by using local caterers and restaurants, as well as home made items made by members. It was the first written constitution that created a government. He said, "The foundation of authority is laid firstly in the free consent of the people". Thomas Hooker believed in universal suffage which was not the position of the Massachusetts Bay Colony under John Winthrop which precipited Hooker to leave Mass and found Hartford. Many of Thomas Hooker's ideas were eventually incorporated into the Declaration of Independence.

It seems like there are always new faces and it can be challenging to find parking if you are late to mass but that's just simply because there are so many attendees! The mass starts with worship and then there is a message from the pastor, similar to a catholic homily. The leaders are warm and friendly. Very large building & they do have weddings here! I was a bridesmaid for one in the main worship area (not pictured) last summer. There is another campus in East Windsor but note that it is a bit smaller and the services are live streamed from this location to that one!

I've never been to a weekday mass but I was investigating this morning and it was one of the few in…read morethe area that was in the middle of the day! Mass started about 2 mins late at 12:07 and finished at 12:30. There is no music and it is composed mostly of readings and a homily but I'm grateful to have come today and will absolutely be back. There is an abundance of metered street parking and I couldn't find more than a single quarter in my bag but I was lucky enough to avoid a ticket! The church is gorgeous and there is an abundance of stained glass windows (not pictured). There was only about it 10 or so people in attendance and the priest greeted every one of them by name for communion. I appreciated this touch. Will absolutely come back!

The words that the priest spoke were like the words of God. I was blessed. Jesus is wonderful. I will definitely be returning once they cure the Corona Virus. A historic landmark in the heart of Old Wethersfield, the First Church of Christ was erected in…read more1761 as the third meetinghouse of the congregation, which was "gathered" or formed in 1635, and also as the assembly hall for town meetings. As late as 1838, it served this double purpose. Today it is the home and central building of the largest Congregational church in New England. George Washington worshiped in the Meetinghouse on May 20, 1781, while in town to confer with Rochambeau to plan what proved to be the final phase of the American Revolution--the Battle of Yorktown. John Adams visited the Meetinghouse and climbed the ladder in the bell tower to peer through the lantern windows where he beheld, in his words, "the most grand and beautiful Prospect in the World." The Meetinghouse is a model of Congregational or Puritan architecture, with its high, central pulpit, its clear glass windows and its simple, chaste lines. Its simplicity went undisturbed until the 1800s, when a series of alterations gave it a more Gothic appearance. The changes included the removal of the pulpit and the box pews. In 1973, through the generous bequest of Jane Robbins Dunham, the Meetinghouse was magnificently restored to its original character and beauty. The original pulpit was returned. Clear glass was reinstalled. Box and slip pews were put in place. The advantages of modern recessed lighting and air conditioning were also introduced. The bell tower is a showpiece, similar in design to that of Old North Church in Boston. While largely unchanged through the years, it required restoration in 1979-1980, at which time the authentic fan-design windows were installed. In the evening, the lighted spire shines as a beacon of hope and faith, viewable for miles around.

There is a receptionist when you walk in that will help you get where you going. I was directed to the basement that is a little dank but from what I can see the place is used for events and seeinf a kitchen it could be a dinner or lunch done here. I was blown away by the bathroom. That is much different than the basement but the first floor is beautiful. I saw on the TV there are events like yoga and the blood drive I'm here for. Old Wethersfield has gems just like this.
