At the entrance way, you are normally welcomed by ushers and or Joan who will wish you a good morning. Sunday Mass at 11:30 am is normally lead by Monsignor Mark Cordon a very well spoken, down to earth pastor. It's in the well-prepared homilies which always help us reflect on the readings, but frequently address sensitive and even "hot" issues of the day at the intersection of faith and secular responsibility. This is not easily done and not often attempted in many, even most, Catholic parishes. The lay readers are superbly able and prepared, and Baptisms are sometimes embedded in the Sunday liturgy. That is like a community birthday party. Franciscans are known for creating a welcoming and joyful worship environment, and their efforts pay off here at St. Mary's. The weekly bulletin is an example. It's all good news about the Good News: Pictures of weddings and baptisms, it's Spanish/English for the strong and active Latino population, activities are celebrated in print and in photos - It's a happy place. I know of somebody who'd call this parish a field hospital for the faith-wounded.
