I used to have my child attend this school for 8th grade and it pains me to say that his experience here was just horrible. There's a lot of things that this school can improve on, specifically for the older kids. The teaching left my son way behind academically during freshman year. The education here is not well and the school is poor, with fundraisers popping up often. The faculty is negligent as well. I've heard that the junior high teachers make students stand outside and wait outside for long periods of time as well. The school mostly does fun things for the younger students, completely ruining the fun for the older kids. This school claims it's inclusive, but my son's comments say otherwise. I would not send my kids here at all, poor teaching and clearly does not care for the older children. read more

My daughter was in TK this year with Mrs. Riegos and we loved her first year at St. Philomene. She has learned so much academically and is thriving thanks to the care of Mrs. Riegos and the other staff. The principal Mrs. Bray is approachable and I love that everyone at the school knows my daughter and takes their part in her education. I love the TK-8 environment and that the older students help take care of the littles. The older students are very respectful and the academics are exceptional. Our kids are in TK and 1st grade. The teachers are supportive. Our kids like the teachers. They teach Spanish and English. We don't speak Spanish and it's impressive to how much my daughter has learned Spanish-bringing it home. They both really like this school, staff and students. They do a lot of fundraising to support the students and school. We didn't want our kids to go to a public school so we took them here. This is a dynamic small school that focuses on values, safety and education. I'm an active parent and I love seeing my children grow. We've been here for many years, and have seen the staff nurture and love our kids with gentle conversations, strict lessons, and pushing them to be better students. St. Philomene has been such a wonderful journey for my two children thus far. My family's 2 wonderful years with Mrs. Riegos was far too short--She is the most incredible combination of nurturing, firm, loving, and poised. She carries herself with a confidence that she instills in each of her students--setting appropriate boundaries, providing guidance, and teaching kindness to help the TK class gain the appropriate skills to be students. Mrs. Parks and Ms. Fraga build upon the foundation that was set by Mrs. Riegos by guiding students through their Kinder and 1st grade years with the appropriate rigor and support to help each student feel valued and successful. We have not yet experienced the expertise of the other teachers, but we cannot wait to see what the other grades have in store for us. My 2 children have been attending St. Philomene going on 3 years now. All of the staff have been so supportive of my children's education, giving them the tools they need to be successful & genuinely wanting the best for them. Ms. Fraga is a so gentle and kind, my daughters adore her. My youngest had the pleasure of being with Mrs. Riegos 2yrs in a row (she started young) and by the second year she flourished and grew so much! My experience with this school was very bad. Most of the teachers are rude to children, and favoritism is common in all grades. The security man, is always smoking cigarettes, and throws them all over the school, which can be a saftey hazard for the littles. The older you get, you will become less recognize regarding to favoritism. Overall I didnt really like this school. read more

So I graduated like... A week ago and I have quite a lot to say about this school. Well first of all the school is poor as dirt, so fundraisers will pop up every month. Also security is barely a thing at this school, every gate can be opened someway from the outside. As you can tell so-far my writing is terrible, because of the lack of good teaching. Some students depending on what their parents do or how they support the school. For example some students can hit others or do other wrong things and will get a VERY light punishment if at all. Also the older your child is the less they will be cared about. Most of the, " student events," are for the little kids. Also since the schools majority of students are Hispanic, and can speak Spanish, if you can't speak Spanish your basically screwed. Also the material they use such as textbooks are outdated and can from before the early 2000s, also the desks would randomly just fall apart. The school tries its best to make memories for the little ones, but I don't even remember what happened in kindergarten. The sports teams are just abysmal, especially the basketball team. There are only 3 sports and 2 "clubs" in the school. Also there are many hazards that kids can possibly get injured by and the school has done nothing about it. Also the uniforms are always cheap and cost too much. Another thing is the chrome books, they just randomly stop working and fall apart then the school blames it on you, also if you have and junior high students, they have to carry their things from class to class. Sometimes the teachers would make us wait so long to the point our arms would start to give out and our chrome books would drop, then if any major damage happened to it you would have to pay upwards of 60 dollars to repair it. If your child has some kind of condition or disability, the school would either care a lot, or literally kick your kid out the school because they don't know how to deal with certain kids. There are many more flaws to list but I'll leave it at that. read more

As I write this review I am deeply saddened. My son attended TK here for a very short period of time with Mrs.Reigos and he had an AWFUL experience with her as his educator. I believe Mrs. Reigos lacked compassion and overall kindness towards my son who was 4 years old ! My son came from a play based learning environment attending school part time to St.Phil's which is NOT play based and attended full time. He needed some time to acclimate to his new learning environment which was very independent learning. Overall, not to go super in-depth into that because that experience was emotional enough for our family... The deepest disappointment was with administration, I emailed the principal Mrs.Bray to explain my disappointment and submit my sons separation letter, this lady did not even have the decency to respond with an email or even an apology for our experience. This is schools main concern is fundraising and getting money absolutely not about your students. I was extremely excited for my son to attend here as my best friends were alumni and super eager for their nephew to attend, and to our dismay he was not cared for. I can not speak on the other grade levels here but DO NOT SEND YOUR SMALLER CHILDREN HERE. For this to be a religious based school they did not exhibit Christian like behavior. Do better Mrs.Bray and St.Philomene , I will be contacting the diocese about our experience and your administration. read more

If I could give this school 0 stars, that would be my choice. My kids attended this school from 1st to 4th grade. It was disheartening and disgusting to see so called people of faith give up on a child and attempt to turn their backs and wash their hands just because a child had a different learning style. The only time you should ever turn your back on a child is when you are telling them to hop on for a ride. Not all children learn the same and some need a different approach. No child is perfect. Those that are not, deserve our compassion even more. Unfortunately, this school did not think or act in that way. Made it very clear that all they cared about was collecting the tuition instead of what was best for the child. I will make sure to share our story in hopes no other child gets treated like they do not matter just because they do not fit in St. Philomene cookie cutter methods. read more

Love our small school! COVID-19 brought unanticipated challenges this year, however, the staff and teachers never missed a beat! They ensured the students had everything they needed for distance learning from day one. This fall semester, the students were able to return to in-person classroom instructions through a waiver because the school put together a safety protocol plan approved by the health department. I have three children at Saint Philomene's school (two girls & a boy) and we have been here for five years. It's a little school with a huge heart and I highly recommend considering joining our Saint Phil's family. No school is perfect, but Saint Philomene's is continuously evolving and always trying. My son started Kindergarten here and he is now in first grade. We love the school. In just one short year we have become so close to the faculty and staff. It's such a small but close community, with the pandemic right now they are one of the few schools that are able to hold in classroom learning which is so important for the kids. Not only do they have a bilingual program, the reason we are there, they are also are a Project Lead The Way STEM k-8 campus. The school is very diverse, which is very important to us. I am a former student that graduated 2 years ago. The teacher hardly taught and when they did it was just "busy work." I entered Highschool extremely behind because of how horrible they taught us. They don't know how to educate their students and are extremely unfair. They charge a high amount (more than it should be) for a bad education. I've only had maybe 3 good teachers there but they all left that school and were replaced by lazy people who didn't like teaching. Parents who say it is good don't see what is really happening. I am surprised to see that there aren't many reviews for this school. We love it. My son is in the TK class which is quite an impressive program. It is a three hour a day, 5 day a week class that learns along side kindergarten students. So they are basically in a 3 hour kindergarten curriculum class. The teachers at St. Phil's care about the children and they are not just a number in the classroom.
