St. Pius has an attractive campus. I live very close by to the campus, and enjoy the sound of the school's cathedral bells ringing out. Though I am not Catholic, I have observed that the parish promotes healthy community life through its ministries. According to http://www.stpiusschool.org/html/About/about.html: "St. Pius School was founded by Monsignor Michael Fitzsimon to meet the educational and spiritual needs of the children of the newly established parish. Over the years, the combined efforts of the administration, faculty, parish, priests and parents have provided a safe, loving environment for Catholic education to flourish. St. Pius School is first and foremost a Catholic School which exists to pass on the faith. St. Pius School has responded to the educational needs of young Catholics for over 50 years and continues to foster growth in each child. Through a partnership with the families, each child's individual strengths are recognized and maximized for spiritual, emotional, intellectual, social and physical growth. The school provides a quality education in a loving environment and works in conjunction with the primary educators of each child, their parents, to ensure the best for each student. ... St. Pius School is fully accredited through the Western Association of Schools and Colleges and the Western Catholic Education Association. Students receive religious instruction and a comprehensive core curriculum enhanced with computer training and use of computers as tools to assist them in their daily lives."

Some of the literature required for an English class may be of trashy sexual material content. A parent has to question why in general, and when there are so many other great literature choices out there. There has been political disruption, and the WHS administration showed aggression and favoritism against and within their student body. Faculty often have political agendas in the academia and students are required to adhere to the teachers' political viewpoints to make the grade. Students knowingly repeat the information back in HW & exams to make the grade & move on. My daughter had framed photos displayed at the main library along with her class. The photos turned up missing. When I asked the photography instructor if he knew where the photos were, I was surprisingly met with immediate hostility. I was heartbroken as I would have liked to have had my daughter's work. A huge red flag: The Varsity basketball coach will not equally develop a player if he decides he does not care for the player and he will do this in an often cruel & insidious manner. Parents can influence coaches for play time as well.

This school really focuses on preparing students for college. The offer two-week periods where the student can focus solely on their career/educational interests. It is the second in the Summit Charter Schools, and now 5 years old. My son has been there for just one year, but we could not be more satisfied. The quality of the teachers is outstanding, class sizes are small, the care and dedication of the faculty matches and even exceeds what I have found at the private schools our children attended in the area, for both elementary and middle school and even for high school. There are downsides. There is no football field, there is no performing arts center. There is no Olympic sized swimming pool. Instead there are state-of-the-art facilities for classes, and a network of community facilities where students can access the extracurricular activities and elective subjects that are available. This school is not for everyone. If your student is not college-bound and you as parents are not supportive of him or her being college bound, this is not the school for you. The curriculum is rigorous, and expectations are set high. And they directly address the need not just to get into a college but to succeed there and graduate. First step, go to the open house. Check their website for the dates. Everestepo.org is their parent organization website. Or you can go to everestphs.org. It's a lottery. But you can't win if you don't play.

Not supplemented with technology, but relies on technology alone. Now students use Chrome books and teach themselves from Playlists. Teachers are no longer educators helping teach students. They have become web hosts who tell students to "Google it". It's likely this is why they have such a high turn over rate with faculty. Summit's Special Education Program is one of the worst I've experienced. They really don't have a program other than offering special ed students support class time. Special ed students are forced to take the same AP classes as the rest of the student body utilizing the self teaching method. Teachers have little experience helping these special needs students and are often uniformed regarding their IEP (Individualized Educational Plan). Intead of helping special ed students and their families, they deny and decieve. Its all about the mighty dollar. Summit harms these special children by causing anxiety and depression. If you try and fight back they get their lawyers involved. Shame on them for treating special needs children and families in this way. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Posted December 14, 2013 Report it This school is run by a group of young professionals with very little oversight from the Summit Public Schools organization. There is no consistency. They are all over the place with their teaching styles and philosophy. It used to be that all electives were taught within the two down time months of they year where the students immersed themselves. Now they interrupt school every few weeks for two weeks. There is no time to immerse students in either core curriculum or electives. Teachers used to teach. But no more. Now students use Chrome books and teach themselves from Playlists. Teachers are supposed to be in the school to facilitate projects. Ask a student what they did in class & they mostly answer that they worked on their playlists. Very few facilitated projects are being done. Books are poorly chosen. Facility is not clean. The Teachers are confused as to what to do. The Administration is confused. The parents are confused. The kids are really confused. Diane Tavner is busy opening up new schools and cannibalizing the teaching staffs at the existing schools. More teachers are pulled to roam from school to school with poorly prepared electives. Disaster!

The tech policies are damn near dictatorship-like where you can't use personal computers because the school forces us to use the barely functional school Chromebooks with so many websites blocked it makes North Korea look like a free country because they want to see what we are doing at all times on our computers. Then there is the grading system, which if you get a 1 on one outcome even if you have 4s on every single other one, boom you are failing that class. Then there is the D-lab classes that only this school has, absolutely the worst classes I have ever taken, and that class is almost impossible to pass even if you try as hard as possible. Also this school has the dreaded by all students Yonder policy where you have to lock up your phones in the morning, and I've heard from friends some teachers make you unlock the pouch randomly so they can see if the phone is actually your phone and not a decoy by making you log in to it and check your account on your phone. One of my friends was almost suspended for taping random things to a protein shake bottle because the teacher thought it was a bomb. Also it has got to be the most LIBERAL ASS school I have ever seen. Like when trump got elected last November the teachers were saying there was emotional counseling for everyone who didn't like the election results. So in summary, this school has food that not even the prison system would feed to death row prisoners, more rules around tech than North Korea, and it is the most woke school I have ever been to which is saying something because I went to a charter school in Santa Cruz for most of middle school. DON'T GO TO THIS SCHOOL. This review is a student POV so it can be more trusted than others because I have been going here for 2 years and experienced almost everything about this school so far.

My kiddos are happy, feel loved, are learning a lot and progressing well. RCC Teachers are nurturing as they clearly love the kids. The are joyous and excited when we open the door and are greeted with a big 'Good Morning' as we put away our bags. The kids rush to one of the activity tables (eg, playdough, puzzles, building blocks) and settle in to play. They have a full day of activities - free play, dancing/singing, arts/crafts, numbers/letters/words, outdoor time, snack, nap, etc. They also work on age appropriate activities (eg, my 2 y/o is working on counting, learning shapes and colors). Both are always bringing home new school work and art. It's actually inspired me to make an art wall at home to display everything. There are lots of things for the kids to do, multiple play areas, the outside space is both my kids favorite part. They both love riding bikes, playing in the sandbox and of course the big purple dinosaur! The teachers are disciplined around schedule, activities, behavior. The kids learn to socialize, share, play together, clean up, resolve conflicts, behavior and consequences, etc. Both kiddos actually like to clean up (while at RCC only)! They resolve issues fully and quickly so that we can be comfortable that our kids are in the very best place they could be. All the teachers are lovable, with lots of energy and very patient for those around them. We are grateful for their service everyday!
