Our son absolutely loves it here. He goes to MWF 2-year-old program with teachers Diane and Monica. He's obsessed. Wants to run out to school every morning. We go to a different school Tuesdays and Thursdays and he always prefers PTS -- he's very vocal about it. He literally saunters into PTS like a little movie star. Somehow the teachers and the staff are truly able to connect with my son, make him feel comfortable enough to blossom and explore the world here! He loves making challah bread every Friday and is always excited to eat his own handmade bread. He loves Shabbat Fridays where they have a dinosaur come. Anyhow, I can't say enough nice things about this school. The facilities are really nice and spacious and happy and bright. It's awesome. read more

My kids all attended PTS preschool and absolutely thrived there. The teachers care so much about the kids and really foster a love for school and learning. We're also members of the synagogue and the Youth Education program at PTS. We feel so welcomed and grateful for this community. read more

At this preschool, the experience was rather mixed. Although the facility initially seemed of higher standard, the teaching varied drastically from classroom to classroom. The children seemed to run amok, coming home dirty and unkempt. I also never saw any evidence of letter or number play base activities - all of the papers left in my daughter's cubby were scribbles. I found myself introducing and teaching her at home how to trace letters, spell her name, and try to draw actual things ... in a play based way. It's worth noting that my daughter did enjoy learning the dreidel song, visiting the Torah, and baking Challah bread on Fridays, but this was not enough to make up for the deficiencies in the overall educational experience. In addition, there were some unforeseen circumstances that arose during the school year which required special attention from administration and input from parents. The administrators of the school downplayed and disregarded most all opinions of parents and took a path that was based on public image vs addressing legitimate concerns of parents from the most simple and basic level. Ultimately, I no longer felt comfortable nor satisfied with the mindset and educational approach of PTS so we made a conscious decision that our daughter deserved better. My recent experience touring other schools (post pandemic) I can see the spectrum in "play based" schools. Kids need structure within a guided play base environment which is not offered at PTS. PTS is basic compared to other options out there. read more

My family has found the most wonderful, safe, loving community for our two sons. The teachers and staff could not be any more loving and attentive to every single child that steps in the door. This is evident from the amazing Director, Allison, who pours her heart into this school and hires amazing staff. You can tell the staff are not there for a 'job', they are there because they love what they do, they love PTS and absolutely love the children. There are wonderful events that they host for families to get to know each other and get involved (if they wish). PTS is much more than a preschool, it is a big part of our family. My only negative feedback is that I wish we could have started when they were babies and we could stay until high school! read more

Our family has been part of the PTS Preschool community for the past five years. The gorgeous campus and learning spaces, including the well appointed indoor classrooms, the expansive and engaging outdoor classrooms and the wonderful playground, along with the play-based curriculum and educational philosophy drew us to PTS initially. The faculty and staff are warm, welcoming and communicative. Our children have thrived at PTS and it has created a strong foundation for their educational journey into elementary school and beyond. My husband and I went on numerous preschool tours but after our tour at PTS with the director, Allison, we canceled the rest of our tours. We knew immediately this was everything we were looking for out of a preschool; the absolute best teachers/ staff who are fully invested in the development and wellbeing of my child. They provide a fun and engaging curriculum that encourages learning through play. And after two years at PTS, it has proven to be the best decision we could have made. Never before this senior rabbi has a clergy bullied his congregation and his staff and belittled people in front of others. He brings shame upon his religion. He is constantly late for EVERY SINGLE MEETING except when his ego dictates him to be "on stage." He ridicules other religious practices. He tried to switch an entire sports season at a local school to suit his own personal holiday needs. And the coach is Jewish and basically ripped him a new one. Hundreds of people left when he came into power. The only good thing about the place is the air conditioning and free parking but you may miss out on parking if you are not half an hour to an hour early. They will take your money and favor those who suck up or woo him. Many children disappear after their mitzvah. The school is a different story. For those who are not Jewish but attend do NOT expect any sort of Non Jewish holiday mentioned. Good luck. read more

Not only violated my kids personal rights by taking away their food and leaving them hungry for the whole day but also overbilled our family for 21k$ and didn't return money back even after kids withdraw. My family has been part of the Peninsula Temple Sholom community for 20 years. Our children went through the PTS Preschool and religious school, we have taken part in adult learning and social action programs, and we are active volunteers. It is a warm, welcoming and spiritually sustaining Jewish community, one that serves and connects people from a wide range of practices and backgrounds. We love bringing friends and out-of-town family to PTS -- they are always as impressed by the warmth of the clergy and the congregation as they are by the beautiful facilities. The clergy team is terrific -- a real power team. Among them they have brought some wonderful, thoughtful innovation not just to worship and study, but to youth religious education, social justice initiatives, and the musical experience. There is extraordinary leadership at the PTS Preschool, as well as from the Chief Community Officer, and we love all the staff. It really is an incredible team that is constantly trying to figure out how to make people feel cared for and uplifted. read more

Parents be aware. This preschool is a SCAM. They force you to have a card on file with them and charge you however they want. We ended up with 21k $ of overpayment and they refused to return the money. We have to go through court now to rerun our money. Just save your time and money, find your kids a better preschool. We absolutely love PTS Preschool, and could not say enough positive things about the school, teachers, staff and community. We are going on our third year at PTS (we have two kids in the school this year) and feel so grateful and fortunate to be part of such an amazing school community. Allison, the preschool director, is a dream. You can't imagine a more welcoming, warm, understanding and overall awesome leader. Her compassion runs deep; from knowing each and every preschooler and each of their personal strengths, to being so very relatable on a parent-level as well. And Kim, Allison's right hand lady, is uh-mazing. She's incredibly warm, helpful, and a pleasure to chat with. We have loved all the teachers we have had over the course of the three years. And especially love that this is a play-based school. They do a great job of indoor/outdoor play several times a day. And also set up unique art projects or special activities in each classroom each day for the kids to dabble in if they choose. If I could leave 100 stars, I would! read more

PTS Preschool is actually in Burlingame. My five year old twins have attended for the past two years, and I can't say enough positive things. The facilities are beautiful - the classrooms are well stocked and they have a great outside play area. Teachers are all accredited and incredibly nurturing and caring. True, it is a jewish school, but children from all backgrounds are embraced. All drop off - no parent work requirement, but plenty of opportunities to volunteer. Tuition is midrange. Temple members get a sizable discount. We pay about $10,500 per year for two kids attending 5 days (9-12AM). Extended care runs about $8-$12hour, depending on whether you enter into contract. Things we love about PTS Preschool: 1) Play based curriculum 2) Flexible extended care options 3) Great afternoon enrichment programs (e.g., Science, Woodworking) 4) Music and movement class each week (so I don't have to shell out extra for classes) 5) Great parent community 6) Transitional kindergarten for "young 5s" read more

I would not recommend PTS Preschool. They lost my son and the police had to be called to locate him. I'd also echo the other comments that the director is extremely difficult to work with. She did not foster an inclusive and supportive environment for our preschooler. read more

I was extremely disappointed at how this school (particularly the director) handled a situation where my daughter was being bullied. The bullying was ongoing for over 5 months, and it was affecting my daughter's emotional well-being. We tried to talk to the director, and as my 4 year old daughter was trying to talk to her, she dismissed her and said she was busy. Then she turned back to chit chat with another parent. When I entered her office to talk to her, she basically told me my daughter was overreacting, and while my daughter had been punched and pushed repeatedly, it wasn't happening that often and my daughter was probably making this up to get attention. Overall, if your child is not bullied, then it's fine to send them to this school. But if there are any issues that come up (i.e. bullying), the school will not address it and will instead accuse your child of making up things to get attention. read more

I'm writing in response to one of the previous reviews. I have limited experience with PTS, but my husband and I are in the process of thinking about joining. We will be having a baby girl this summer, and thus I felt it was time for us to officially join a synagogue. I also am interested in the PTS Preschool, as the time for us to pick a preschool will arrive quickly. I just wanted to say that my husband and I went to a Friday night Shabbat service, and not only did both of the rabbis and the cantor all introduce themselves to us (one of the rabbis introduced himself as soon as we entered the sanctuary), but other congregants also introduced themselves to us during the Oneg Shabbat. As my experience at PTS is very limited, I cannot say why the previous reviewer had such a cold reception (that's really too bad!), but that was not my experience. We will be returning to check out more services. read more

After dinner tonight, I decided to go to a Shabbat service close to work. Although I am not one to normally write bad reviews, after tonight's service, I had to capture my experience. Pros: The Rabbi gave a lovely sermon that was inspirational and thought provoking. Cons: After the service, I went to the Oneg. After getting some coffee, I sat down at one of the 7 tables. After sitting there for about 15 minutes, not one person came by to introduce themselves, say hello, or anything. At any synagogue, usually there would be someone from the congregation: Rabbi, Cantor, Sisterhood, Men's Club... not ONE person came by. Perhaps this congregation doesn't want/need any new members. I usually give places a second chance. After tonight's experience, perhaps I should attend services at another synagogue, even if that means driving farther. In all of my years of attending Friday night services, I have never been to a congregation where I felt so all alone. It is a sad day for me. Verne read more

We attended PTS for 3 years and had it not been for moving out of the area, we would still be at PTS and our son would be attending. The director is fabulous and very accomodating. The school is a loving environment the teachers are wonderful and the play based instruction is most developmentally appropriate. I highly recommend PTS. read more

We love PTS Preschool. We have been here since 2014 and have found it to be a fantastic place. I have one preschool graduate (now a first grader) and one current student who is 4. The teachers are warm and caring. I have found Director Allison to be very open to feedback and easy to work with. (I have volunteered on the parent -teacher board since 2015 and have worked with her a brunch.). There is a nice community of parents. I would recommend PTS Preschool to anyone who asks! read more

I have 2 children at Peninsula Temple Sholom Preschool this year and am having the most wonderful experience. Both of my children love the school. Walking into the school you immediately get a sense of the warmth and nurturing environment from the Preschool Director Cindy Common. She loves all her children and it shows it in her face and the children's when they greet her. The teachers are so nice and they truly care about their kids well being and the curriculum that they are teaching. Learning about all the Jewish holidays is fun for everyone and they get to bake challah every week! They have a soccer clinic, a music teacher and so many other fun activities. My kids LOVE going to school and that makes my husband and I so happy. read more

This is a review of PTS Preschool. I couldn't be happier that my son goes to PTS. We had tried 3 other preschools, toured around 15 schools up and down the Peninsula, and truly none of them compare. My son is a highly sensitive child (HSC), and was extremely shy, introverted, and sensitive when he started the school year. In the past year, he has grown in ways I had only hoped. He loves the school, has 2 "best friends" that he couldn't be more excited to see every day, and loves all the teachers. The play-based/constructivist educational philosophy is so fitting for this age group (look it up if you're unfamiliar), and while I've heard some negative feedback in that the younger kids don't learn their A-B-C's and 1-2-3's, they are learning something so much deeper than academics - they are learning to communicate, work with other children, understanding their value and worth, giving back to the community, and so much more. They will eventually learn the academic stuff in pre-K and TK, but at age 2, 3 and 4, they need to have fun and acclimate to the school environment that they will be in for the next 19+ years. The Director Allison is caring and responsive, and is currently working with me to place my son with the teacher and friends that will best help him thrive with his highly sensitive tendencies. The teachers are warm, positive, and really caring. Other positives - this is a NAEYC accredited school, children do not need to be potty-trained - they believe every child matures at a different age, and they don't penalize parents for that, they have several extended care options, the parking lot is ample for drop-off & pick-up, the parent community is warm and inclusive, the campus is not only clean, modern and well-kept, but the temple is located in a quiet, clean and beautiful part of Burlingame (no trains whizzing by!). And although this is a Jewish preschool, they are welcoming to all faiths, ethnicities, and all types of modern families. I could go on, but I think I covered all the major points. You will not be disappointed with this school. read more

We are in our 5th year at the preschool - 5 years, need I say more?? We have had a wonderful experience there. Both of my kids love it. While a play-based school, I have found that there are activities based around developing fine motor skills (like writing and drawing) for the 3-4 y/os and the Pre-K and TransK classes did work on letter recognition and writing projects. It is a wonderful blend. Another fabulous resource is a childhood development specialist named Stephanie Agnews, she is available to help teachers (and parents of PTS kids) on Monday mornings. When an issue came up in my daughters classroom arose, she was able to observe the class and give both me and the teacher constructive feedback on how to rectify the situation and created a constructive teaching moment for all. Great Transitional K program if you are looking, it was a perfect year for my older one to mature and gain confidence. While Jewish-based, the Jewish themes are woven in to a value-based education. The school is almost 50% non-Jewish which speaks to the comfort level for children of all backgrounds there. read more
