We are in year 13 as a St Richard's family. Our two kids are different in terms of their needs and strengths, but both have found the support, education, and peer relationships they need to thrive, and both are caring, curious humans I am proud to send into the world - which to me is one of my foremost goals as a parent. Perhaps never did I feel as positively toward St Richard's as I did once our family embarked on high school. Our child has proven to be incredibly well prepared to excel in high school and has more competency in terms of discerning healthy peer relationships than I ever could've hoped for. I have had teachers and extracurricular coaches compliment my kids on their ability to advocate for themselves in a respectful manner, and also for the ways that they include and respect their peers. All of these are things that we foster in our own family, but I know they are also fostered at St. Richard's - and this is why we chose it. I have learned in my parenting journey that no school is perfect - but the great parts of St Richard's far outweigh the handful of areas that could be improved. As a new family at St. Richard's, we've been so impressed by the supportive staff, strong academics, and genuine focus on equity, inclusion, and parent engagement. From day one, our children have been encouraged to grow both academically and socio-emotionally. I love the values-based curriculum and inclusive chapel time--where all faiths are truly celebrated; I've even attended Yom Kippur and Diwali services there. My active son enjoys P.E. three times a week, and my daughter thrives on the frequent, hands-on field trips. We're also excited about the unique French Exchange program offered in 5th grade Even Chef Andy's fresh, delicious lunches have inspired my picky eaters to try new foods! We couldn't be happier with our transition to St. Richard's. (One caveat: my children don't have special needs, I can't speak personally to the school's special education resources.) read more

We enrolled our 2nd grader at SRES after our tour, when we asked specifically if they offered speech and motor skills therapy in house. The lower division head who gave us the tour said they had three on staff. In fact, they had a new speech therapist. In March we discovered that was a lie. Administrators confirmed she was let go because of situations like these. We had to get outside therapies twice a week at $168/ hour. We asked for compensation. They said it's not in your contract that we offered you those services. Our three year old was lost twice in one day. His teacher sent an email to us asking us to review their policy on respecting teachers with our three year old because he left the playground twice without their knowledge because he needed to use the bathroom. The following day a school employee let me know he had made it through the entire school and upstairs to a classroom. No apology from the school. He said he didn't want to pee his pants because he'd get in trouble. Zero accountability or responsibility for their misstakes that cost us financially. Resting on their laurels without the quality you'd expect from a private school. A very expensive lesson for our family. read more

I cannot recommend this school to anyone, but especially those with neurodiverse kids or kids with big feelings. I am concerned and want to save others from making the same mistake we did. Or at least give you some warning ahead of it, since all we heard was the same group speak on these websites. My biggest concern is the lack of understanding of normal childhood development at this school, including social and emotional development, and what impact that has had on the students. My kiddo became incredibly anxious here, and I soon learned so had many others. They destroy the self esteem of these kids- the assumption seems to be that kids are being "bad", which I heard from his 5th grade teacher over and over, and need discipline, and if they step out of line they need to get detention. They miss that most kids need something to be incentivized, instead of having every teacher dangle a looming detention if they mess up, make a mistake, or really even fidget. Our kiddo has mild ADHD, and has very few academic needs, but his 504 meeting was spent mostly trying to educate the teachers on what normal childhood development looks like. The class sizes are frankly too small for healthy middle school interaction, my kiddo had 20 total in the grade, split into 2 classes of 10 because the teachers really seem to struggle with any sort of classroom management. I think it's because most don't have education degrees that prepare them to manage children in the full range of normal development. They seem to have one type of kid they want: the docile kind. But they seem to be making even those kids incredibly anxious. It might be the load of homework, but I can't say it was even difficult. The homework load is big, but somehow it wasn't a challenge. It wasn't academic rigor - it was the appearance of it. Much like most of the things at this school - it is about appearance. They want docile kids who will not push back - and that comes out when they go to high school and don't understand how to self- advocate. I've now heard from multiple kids that the St. Richards kids cannot speak up for themselves in high school, can't push back, don't know how to lead. This makes sense because it doesn't seem like their own leadership knows how to lead. They hire staff and let them loose with punitive policies- the recent french immersion teacher had kids giving detention to classmates if they spoke english- in a total class of 20, this was obviously a bad idea, but no one stopped her, even after I complained. In addition, They have a very real parent problem at the school, and the leadership lacks fair and safe boundaries. Simple playground stuff becomes huge, and unwitnessed behavioral accusations from parents get far too much attention. It's like they don't know how to do this- at all. They take no responsibility for any mistakes or problems with staff or their own decision making. And so anything that goes wrong becomes the fault of the kids. And that's the biggest and scariest part of this school. Your kid becomes a "problem", and that might become how they identify themselves for life. Be very aware of what you are walking into. We are all traumatized, and are going to be undoing the damage for awhile. For us, going back to public school has been a gift, and we are in a new district, in a building full of people who believe the best about kids, who assume good, who have structure and boundaries and build kids up instead of tearing them down. The education is much better, and the balance for mental health and social and emotional development is built in to every class. That seems more like the "knowledge and values" I want my kid to carry throughout life. read more

This school is a waste of money and time. I can not quite pinpoint the issue whether it is the teachers, admin or something else but either way this school is falling apart. Teachers are unqualified and impatient and fail to actually impart any knowledge instead opting for an endless flurry of busy work. From what I have seen the biggest pitfall is the wide variety of of punishments. For instance staff turns a blind eye to systematic bullying but once a child stands up for themselves they are instantly penalized. I have heard children get detentions for forgetting their blazer but when it comes to obvious cheating it is ignored. Also the school places immense pressure on students in an unproductive way. They have assemblies where the list people with certain GPAs and the few who are not called up are shunned, as well what the hell is that grading system I mean come on a 95% being an A-? To save your pockets and your children steer clear of SRES. read more

When shopping schools for my children, my priority requirements were flexible and creative methods of learning, diverse representation among the administration, teachers, and students, and an involved school community. SRES has exceeded all of my expectations. My kids have very different needs, one being ahead of her grade and the other needing extra help. The teachers and learning support staff have done an amazing job making sure they are both challenged and supported. We have built an incredible "village" not only within our grade levels, but in the larger school community. As an alum of SRES, I have been blown away by its evolution since I was a student. The uniforms, while still keeping all students on a level playing field, have been adjusted to accommodate students of all gender identities. The commitment from the Parent Organization is top-notch and the opportunities for community-building have been amazing. There are several teachers who have dedicated 30+ years to this school, which leads me to believe they are treated well. Highly recommend! read more

SRS is a fantastic school for creating well rounded graduates. The curriculum is challenging but students are supported throughout their program. We have felt totally welcome at SRS and do not come close to making a 6 figure salary. Parents are very involved and seem practical and supportive of the children and the school. The school is making great strides to be up to date with the latest teaching methods and are continuously looking for areas to improve. Definitely worth our money and time to know our child is getting the best education and attention from teachers. read more

St Richards is the worst school I have ever attended. The teachers are "respect" driven even though they don't have any respect for them selves. The new principal isn't doing his job right nor is the dean. They both don't let the students have any fun. And are huge hypocrites. One day they say homework isn't going to be assigned during a break but this summer I have to read shitty books and answer questions on it. For example when we were doing the end of the year field day celebration, we weren't allowed to do what we wanted. And we're not allowed to leave? Bullshit. I'm glad to here the corrupt music teacher is leaving maybe the nice one will take her place. She blamed me for something I didn't do and my friend said he did it guess who had to clean it up? Me!!!! The school also lets us have a governmental system but guess what? Nothing changes. Prison still has more recess time than us and our "dragon cafe" is in a basement. They focus more on the bathrooms that nobody even cares if it looks nice or not. This school cares about its image and not its students. If I ever have children their going straight to park tutor. read more

Our children attend St Richards and have since junior kindergarten so we are very familiar with the school. We are extremely happy with St Richards. The curriculum is rigorous and challenging, the teachers are fully invested in student success, and the school is committed to developing well rounded individuals. Recently, one of our children was diagnosed with dyslexia. We have had multiple meetings with the resource teacher and our child's home room teacher to develop a curriculum specifically for her. In addition, we get weekly updates from her teacher letting us know how she is progressing, what we need to focus on at home, and methods of teaching to optimize her understanding and comprehension with reading. The teachers and school are very dedicated to each student's success, and the parental support is amazing as well. We could not be happier with our experience (our children are very happy as well) and our son will be a future dragon as well. read more
