I have not attended a mass at this church but a few weekends ago I attended a piano recital inside the church of a family friend. The church has a nice sized parking lot with a cool little gazebo and nice playground. The inside is in the medium sized. The chairs or pews have a felt like material to them making them pretty comfortable. However they very much meet the stereotype of small country town church with no AC. It was boiling inside for the recital. Overall it's a pretty nice church and they did a good job of hosting the piano recital and supplied ample enough space and accommodations needed for the recital.

I really enjoy this church…read more My wife and I are currently looking for a new church, and we've had a few on our radar. Third Avenue is one of the better ones in the city. The reasons are as follows: * The senior pastor, Greg Gilbert, is a very good expositor of the Word of God. He teaches through the Bible line by line, verse by verse. Good, proper exegesis (fancy word for rightly interpreting a text) that is edifying, educational, and challenging. * It is a very conservative church with a conservative approach on how they conduct themselves in the service. Historically, the church has usually had very orderly services, following some sort of liturgy. There are all sorts of debates going on about what a church's liturgy should look like, but often times those debates miss the point. Third Avenue is very orderly in their approach. * The music is beautiful and uplifting, and the lyrics to the songs and hymns glorify the Savior. Third Avenue has a beautiful mix of old and new. If you prefer old hymns, this is the place for you. If you prefer new hymns, this place is for you. Whether new or old - just make sure they focus on the Lord Jesus Christ. Third Avenue nails it. * The Sunday School structure is fantastic. Often times, when you go to a church, the Sunday School classes are divided based on life stage. If you're a teenager, you go to room 102. If you're in college or under the age of 30, then you go to room 104. If you're between 30-40, we call that the 'Married & Family' class, and you go to room 106. Etc. Etc. Etc. Well, Third Avenue doesn't do this. They base their Sunday School classes on topic. Would you like to learn on topic xyz? Go to room 102. Topic abc - go to room 104. And so forth. The reason this is so brilliant - often times in Christian circles, we tend to alienate people that don't "fit in" with our labels. If you are segregating Sunday School classes on life stage, where does the 40-something single lady go? She's too old for this one, but she isn't married with children for this one... So guess what you've done. You just made that woman feel even more lonely and isolated than she already did before attending your church. Third Avenue has recognized this and nails it. Huge props to them. * The theology of the church is very sound. The church is a 9 Marks church, and many of the members are students and graduates of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. The training of these people, and the teaching in the church will be heavily Calvinist, Reformed Baptist, which is a very conservative, historic, Biblical viewpoint. I really can't say enough good things about the church. It's in a good area. It has a very vibrant, lively membership... If I had to nitpick one thing, and this is the reason why my wife and I will likely not be joining... a lot of the members are students at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. When these people graduate, they will likely be moving away from the area and to a new church. I suspect that the church has a hefty turnover rate in its membership. We'd like to be involved in a church that has a bit more stability in its membership role. Mind you, I'm assuming on this point, but I think my assumption is a fair one. I could go on, but I think you get my point. If you're in the Louisville area, and you're looking for a new place to call your church home, check out Third Avenue Baptist Church.

The community is very warm and welcoming. Also people aren't afraid to sing loudly. Some songs are contemporary, some are quite old. Regardless of whether I already know the song or not, I really appreciate the lyrics of the songs we sing.

Regular services are lovely and the people are kind and the preaching has been sound and challenging when it needs to be. I actually have a long history with Saint Luke's. The congregation and church that I grew up with and still send my kids to is a sister site to Saint luke. My family for years rented out the gym and kitchen for thanksgivings, I had relatives that attended the actual school here when it existed, my nephew play baseball here at the ballpark, one of my daughters baptism was held here, etc etc. The church itself is smaller and is wider then it is deep. The Church pews line up left to right further then they go front to back. Outside the church entrance is a common area with a massive baptism fountain some bathrooms and a instructional classroom area (this is where my family ate thanksgiving meals). They have double doors leading to a full basketball gymnasium and kitchen and concession area. The outside of the perimeter has a couple baseball fields behind the church buses for aau baseball team these days considering they no longer have a school. Saint luke is a small community church that shares congregation and priests with it sister site Saint rita a few miles down the road. Overall, it's a nice church with good people. Pretty good and well kept facility and I've had made many great and lasting memories and times here.

Turned their backa on us when beg to come back to church and family group. Because an autistic child could not wear the face bandage. Literally took a vote to not allow us to attend because od mandate. An immune compromised family with 3 co morbilities was told to fend for themselves. This church acts and conducts itself as the body of Christ should, by being real with each other, sharing others' burdens, and not trying to be flashier than they are.
