While some preschools focus so much on academics, Woodland allows kids to do what they do best - play. My kids come home with crafts every week and beg to go to school over holidays and the summer. They always have holiday programs for the kids and who doesn't love to see their three or four year old in a Christmas play? Tuition is not horribly expensive like other preschools in the city. Parents tend to be regular middle class people of a variety of faiths (we're not Presbyterian per se). It does fill up, so check with the office well in advance of the beginning of the school year.

My experience today with Tulane University was the opposite, staff showing compassion and kindness along with respect while I was in the building for Health Sciences off of Canal Street. The building is under high security and personnel are vigilant and respectful, even when they want to know who you are and what you are doing in their building. This is great observation in this day and age due to constant violence in our higher education institutions.

This daycare center is absolutely HORRID. When asked for juice or water, they are refused. There are no activities or fun things to do with the kids. Employees only have the children seated and are told to 'shut up' and watch TV. Outside time is minimal and they can have up to 35 kids out in the rusty rug-covered dirt playground with only one supervisor attending to the children. Children are constantly yelled at and never learn a thing. The teacher: student ratio is absurd. The daycare center refuses to hire any more employees and when State Licensing visits, are lying about certain employees who don't have their background checked just because the owner doesn't want to spend the money. There are no snacks for the children. According to the list of activities for the day, the children are to receive a snack before lunch, a snack after nap, and a snack before the child is picked up. Their snacks consist of 2 (two) vanilla wafer cookies or half of a graham cracker. This, I believe, is not sufficient enough for the kids, especially for the fact being that there is not enough food during lunchtime for the kids. During lunch, the kids are asked who does and doesn't want to eat. Those who don't want to eat don't get food. For those who don't finish their food, the food is transferred onto another plate into The kitchen and is given to the next child. The three buildings are infested with termites, roaches and ants. Cheap spray is being used to treat the buildings. It obviously isn't working. For your child's safety, please refrain from signing up to this daycare. The owner and director are never there and only talk you up to keep you from taking your child out.

The portal is abysmal; every teacher has a different way of posting to it or not using it at all. I don't know why they don't just use Google Classroom. My son developed severe anxiety and was even throwing up consistently from such a punitive and unsupportive environment. It is really a "no excuses" style school without the support for students. The counselors are overworked and ineffective, and we could not get any help. There is no program to assist ADHD or other common learning differences, only detention and other shaming, as the disciplinarian routinely calls the boys morons. The teachers are painfully ignorant about ADHD, in fact, I was told many times that my son is too smart to have a learning disability and that he just was lazy and not trying. Outside testing proved otherwise. The one accommodation they have to provide by law is extra time for tests, and he was denied that service on multiple occasions. There is also a lot of racism at the school that goes unaddressed, which was deeply unsettling. The years we tried to make this school work were traumatizing for the whole family and we are happily back at public school now.
