The teachers here will break them down, and not in a good way. My child as a first time preschool student was experiencing bullying from teachers starting on her first day, from no introduction, constant yelling and belittling. They do not get recesses, only sometimes a PE class. Neither the small kids nor the bigger kids can talk in class, at all. There is no social time excluding a small lunch. The teachers will smile in your face and act as if they're family, but once you leave their kids with them it's more of cult like culture behind closed doors. You are not allowed to enter the classrooms after the meet and greet. For small kids that cannot communicate well, it's even more difficult for them to tell you how their day was. They can't express just how terrible it is for their mental health and character to not be able to have a outlet all day. Even if you see the older kids in the morning, you can tell how meek and scared they seem. The teachers get a joy out of talking down to the kids starting from the first day. I'm so glad I pulled my child out before she could experience psychological issues at such a young age. My child was able to go on to a local preschool, and is thriving. The same assignments that were given there are given at this school. The programs they use, you can very well use at home, and your child will still thrive. The teachers are much nicer, my child is much happier. Think twice before sending your child here.

I am a lifelong, professional educator having taught 44 years ranging from middle school to graduate school. I have a Ph.D. in education and am currently a high school teacher who also teaches 3-4 graduate education courses each year for LSU; and I serve on the Board of Directors of an "A-rated," metro-New Orleans PK-8 charter school. So, my review comes from a professional perspective. When my child's admission lottery number finally got us into DJOD, I was ecstatic! I truly believed DJOD would be a superior educational environment than the neighborhood public middle school. I could not have been more wrong!! DJOD was a huge disappointment and I totally regret pursing this educational opportunity for my child. Why? Over several years, I found the teachers to be inferior to the neighborhood school in their classroom teaching. My child's learning atrophied as too many of the teachers don't teach, rather they pointed their students to the internet and let online teach. Prior to beginning at DJOD, my child tested at grade-level or higher. Sadly, at the end of our time at DJOD, my child tested below grade-level. Worst of all, the teachers don't challenge the gifted and don't challenge early finishers. Prior to DJOD, both were managed quite well at the neighborhood school and I believe contributed much to strong academic progress and LEAP2025 mastery and advanced scores. At DJOD, the teachers appeared clueless with the gifted and early finishers. On top of all this, I personally experienced the lack of ethics of the school's administrators. DJOD's value form the acronym HEART and you hear and see HEART all over the school and from teachers / administrators mouths. Yet, while DJOD talks the talk of having HEART, I can attest personally they unfortunately cannot walk their talk. Their actions toward parents and students are HEARTLESS and unethical. In fact, I have concluded students and parents rank well behind everything especially their public face and brand. That's number one! How DJOD looks to the public. The prevailing administration attitude (all the way to the top) is: "DJOD is a choice; choose elsewhere, if you're not happy." Of course, through their lottery and waitlist, this translates to: "we don't care about you because we have plenty to replace you." How's that for HEART? Next, DJOD is a feminine culture and boys struggle to find their place in this feminine culture. Even worst, DJOD has no male role models for the boys. (Check out the DJOD directory and you'll see the lead administrators are female and there's only ONE male teacher.) So, in the end, as a professional educator (and, yes, as a parent), I have a very poor review of DJOD and strongly recommend you enter the school with eyes wide open - or better, stay away! When you pull back the curtain, it's not the school their leaders want you to see. Don't fall for the facade and double-talk. Good luck!

This is one of the rare schools in the NOLA area that consistently score A+ overall. To get here, the kids have to test in. That alone is scary intimidating for an adult, much less a 12yr old child. My children have attended private school their entire lives , not because the teachers are of better quality, or the school building is, but because the parents are more invested in their children's education. Better parents, better kids. In my opinion. Better kids means less disruption and other negative behaviors in school. Private schools don't need to keep bad kids in school because there is typically a waiting list to get in from parents that are fortunate enough to be able to afford the ski high tuition. Patrick Taylor Science and Technology Academy has the same parent student standards. There is no messing around here. The difference is that is is a public school. A school I am already paying for. Bonus! The school is definitely a newer building. My first impression was it reminded me of the Disney High School Musical school. Super modern, huge open spaces, oozing high tech everywhere. Thick glasses, slacks pulled up too high and raging acne and I don't see any kind of bullying, teasing or nothing. These children are awesome!! I try and make as many parent events as possible, talent shows, teacher meetings, lunch with Dads and all and I absolutely love this school and how the kids of all races and sizes interact with each other. I find my daughter excelling and growing academically and socially at an amazing pace. I cant help her with her homework anymore. They are advanced big time.
