6 months into our move to the Peninsula, I started searching for a church to go to. A bit of…read morebackground...church has always been a big part of my life, but I can't say that I felt the burning desire to go to church every Sunday. When I was younger, going to church was fun because I got to see and hang out with my friends. We would sit and talk for an hour and a half through the sermon and then get boba after church. As I got older, I started becoming unsure of the leadership in the church and slowly became less interested and eventually, I stopped going completely. So in my search for a new church family, I was very picky. This time around, I was looking for a leader that is passionate. I'd like for his message to speak from the heart and not just reading the bible word for word. I'd love it more if the message is relatable to what I go through in my daily struggles in life. I was looking for a friendly atmosphere, a place where you don't feel pressured - where they don't try too hard. A place with real and genuine intention and that they really want you there. My trusted Yelp led me to The Sacred Church. It's located inside the gym of Burlingame High School but don't let the appearance fool you. You can feel His presence and love and the energy of Pastor Josh will move you. His messages speak to me every time. This guy ROCKS! (if you just saw him walking down the street, you'd think he's just a college kid haha) He took us to Philz Coffee ('cause that's what he does to newcomers) to get to know us and we learned he's a goof ball, which makes us love him more and we don't feel he's intimidating at all as a pastor. His wife is beautiful and she has an amazing voice and their daughter is adorable. We have been coming here for 8 months now and we look forward to coming to Sacred every Sunday. One other thing we love about Sacred is they are hip! Ok, they serve Philz coffee and their coffee cups are stamped with their logo on it. How cool is that? If you miss a Sunday, you can listen to his recordings on the website. Also, tithings can be done through your phone! Yea, no need to feel bad if you don't have cash. Very current with the technology! So glad I found this church. Seriously, I invite you to check us out!

We stumbled upon the Sacred Church through Yelp and decided to give it a try. When we walked in we were instantly greeted by the Pastor. It was not only a welcoming place, but a loving place. We enjoyed a great service with passionate worship and a message that spoke right to us. In addition, the children's service was perfect for our 3 year old daughter. We have now been attending Sacred church for a few months and have not only fallen in love with the church, but also the people. Not only do we leave church filled with an amazing message and great worship, but are able to connect during the week with many activities that take place during the week!

Going to church is not necessarily all about services, but I believe it empowers my life, and bring a sense of clarity. I also find coming to churches, it gives me a very uplifting feeling... and sense of balance in my life. I always feel lighter, and leads me to a greater direction of where I want to go. Both times I have left here my spirit feels recharged, and I feel like my soul is full of light and love. The priest can be a little hard to understand with his I think Philippino or as asian accent so sit in the front of the church. I went on a Monday night and it was a candle lit vigil very cool, all of the lights were off and everyone carried a candle on there way in to the church. The priest explained how we all need to be the light of the world and like a candle burning off wax over time, we too need to make self sacrifices to give off light. he explained it very wisely to us all in a peaceful voice that was soothing to my soul. The other time I went here I sat in the back with my girlfriend and she said that when she sat down in the church she felt something leave up out of her throat from her chest. I didn't believe her but she swore on it so I do now and she stopped arguing with me after we went here so I do believe her now.. There is a beautiful new grocery store across the street that sells great vegetables its almost like gods garden across the street. Check this lace out if you are in San Bruno, and no they do not ask for money or come around with money baskets which is nice too..

During this time, I was distraught. I felt the need to find a church close to Seton where I could pray, have someone minister to me in my time of need, and wanted to find a pastor to pray over my dad. Having left the Catholic church, I knew this may not be easy, but I prayed about it and the Lord led me to Grace Covenant Church where my kids and I were greeted by a nice man by the name of Percy Sunday, November 9. He was so welcoming. The congregation was friendly. There was a man sitting by us, he said his name was Art which is my dad's name. Not a coincidence. I knew this was a sign from the Lord that we were at the right place at the right time. The Lord wanted to let me know that He was with me which was amazing! After mass, I met with Pastor B. He was so kind, empathetic to my situation. I got pretty emotional. He was very supportive. He was kind enough to come by the hospital the next day to pray over my dad on such short notice. My dad passed away a couple hours after on November 10. I'm just so grateful that Paster B was there. He didn't know me nor was I an active member in his congregation, but he showed up which says a lot. Despite my grief, the Lord has given me peace that surpasses all understanding. I highly recommend this beautiful church and grateful to the Lord for leading me to find it. Although I am not in the area, I know I will visit again. Thank you Grace Covenant Church and Paster B. May the Lord continue to bless your ministry, the church, and congregation.

Although my son is not enrolled in the school, it has always been important to me that he feels connected to a Catholic community. A few months ago, I brought my son to ride his bicycle in the parking lot but had forgotten his helmet. Father Patrick approached us and explained that, due to liability concerns, my son could not ride without one. I completely understood, and we respectfully left. He also mentioned that if we returned with a helmet, it would not be an issue. Recently, we came back on a beautiful day, this time fully complying with the helmet requirement. However, our experience was very different. Father Patrick approached us again, but his tone was unexpectedly harsh. He immediately asked, "Who are you?" in a way that felt condescending, followed by questioning whether this was my parish and whether I attended church there. Despite explaining that I do attend, he told us to leave in a manner that felt abrupt and unwelcoming. When I referenced our previous interaction and his guidance about the helmet, he dismissed it and again insisted that we leave. What was most concerning was the tone and manner in which he spoke, particularly toward my husband, who is of Latino descent. The interaction felt not only rude but also disrespectful and, frankly, discriminatory. I understand that everyone can have difficult days, but this experience did not reflect the compassion, kindness, and inclusivity that I expect from a parish community--especially from its leadership. Because of this, I have decided to attend a different parish where I feel more welcomed and respected and for my sons first communion as well.
