Little Wildflowers (LWP) is hands-down one of the best preschools in Sonoma County. Maria and…read moreEvelyn (the co-founders/directors and primary teachers) have created an incredibly nurturing school that has made a lasting impact on our family. These two amazing women have poured so much of their lives into developing the school and programs over the last several years, despite the challenges of opening a preschool directly before the COVID shutdown in 2020. The school was initially recommended to us in mid-2020 by another family whose child started there when the school first opened. Looking back, we're incredibly grateful we were told about Little Wildflowers as many of the other preschools had completely shut down due to COVID or had very limited hours (unlike LWP which is open 8am-5:30pm). Our initial meeting/video tour with Maria and Evelyn immediately put our minds at ease given how warm and caring they were, in addition to being very apparent to us that they were not just your standard preschool teachers, but rather business founders and educators who cared deeply about the success of their school and students. Our daughter began attending Little Wildflowers when she was 2.5 years old in the Spring of 2021 and she stayed through her "graduation" in August 2023. She recently started Kindergarten and we can already tell how well prepared she is from both a social and academic perspective. During her 2+ years at Little Wildflowers she made huge strides in her emotional, cognitive, and social development. Not only is the education program here top-notch with daily time spent on arts and crafts, reading, music, language, number/letter work, etc, but also a large amount of time is dedicated to learning more broad behavioral and social skills. We enrolled our daughter here as she was going through a period of transition due to multiple changes in her home life. Maria and Evelyn appreciated our unique situation and were imperative in assisting our daughter as she worked through changes at home and school. Both of them are incredibly caring and provided such a loving and intimate atmosphere for our daughter during her time there. Despite the school being located directly across from the Coddingtown shopping center, the facility is beautiful and very well maintained. The two-classroom building sits on a lovely corner lot with thoughtful landscaping and numerous trees to provide shade. The classrooms trends toward minimalist décor with a Montessori inspiration which gives you a sense of calm (unlike many of the messy and chaotic preschools out there). The school also has a huge outdoor play area which our daughter loved - most days the kids get multiple hours of time to play, explore, and participate in education activities outside. Overall, we can't speak highly-enough about the school and its educators. Against all odds (COVID restrictions, challenges hiring teachers/assistants, growing a new small business, etc) Maria and Evelyn have done an outstanding job creating an environment where young kids can grow freely in a diverse, nurturing, and caring community. Our daughter truly flourished during her time at the school and ended up making many close friends and countless memories (as did we with the other wonderful parents). To provide full transparency, some families might be surprised with the school policies and high level of expectations for both parents and students. These include strict drop-off times, numerous COVID policies (though these have been greatly relaxed over the past year), uniforms requirements, and home-prepared food to be sent every day (other than Fridays). While sometimes challenging, we viewed these polices as overwhelmingly positive which contributed not only to the success of the school, but also benefited the families and students. Plus, preschooler's wearing uniforms is just plain cute. Overall, we're extremely grateful for the school and the amazing talent and hard work that Maria and Evelyn put in every day. If you're on the fence about choosing a preschool for your child, or brand new to the search process, we highly recommend setting up a time to speak with them. If you want your child to be in a safe, nurturing, and educationally focused preschool with the most caring teachers in the world, Little Wildflowers is the place!

Little Wildflowers exceeded our expectations. And their awareness of how parents feel entrusting their children to someone else was beyond what I had expected. Our son was in a phase of 'stranger danger' when we first met Ms. Maria, but he felt immediately comfortable with her, which was a sign for us. Initially, we wanted to start with just a few days a week and gradually increase, but thanks to the integration period at LWF, within a few weeks he was happily attending full days and loving it. Both Evelyn and Maria work incredibly hard and are true professionals. There have been weekends when my son wanted to go to LWF. Statements directly from my little one: Me: How was your day at school? LO: It was great, just great! Me: Do you like going to school? LO: Yes, I do! Me: What do you like about it? LO: I like my teachers and friends. He always comes home happy, and we are so thankful for LWF. They even helped potty train our son, something I expected to be much more challenging, but like everything else, Evelyn and Maria made that transition relatively effortless.

The preschool's web site attracted my attention when I first started considering preschool, and it was the first preschool we visited. We knew, just a few minutes into our visit, that we'd found the perfect place for our child. The program is play-based, focused on the children's interests, and the staff are very warm and engaging with the children. It's a small place (less than 30 children) and has a cozy quality since the preschool is within a former single family home. The food is great (all homemade, generally healthy, and lots of fresh veggies) and the art activities are a lot of fun for our child and have added color and texture to our home. Best of all, our child really loves the teachers and they seem to know her very well despite the fact that she's only there a couple of half days a week. The teachers are gentle and kind to children while helping them learn cool stuff, play, and experiment with various educational materials. It is wonderful to collect our child and to find her immersed in a fun activity, whether it's story time, meeting time, discussion, or outdoor play.

The 12 child / 4 teacher setup at the Hoen campus is pretty special, especially during Covid times. We made the decision to send our 4 year old back to school despite the risks of the virus, it was initially a hard choice to make, but knowing the numbers and the care that the school is taking to keep all the kids healthy. Heather has been incredibly thorough in not only creating a medically advised Covid protocol, she has also sent emails out answering all the questions parents have sent in, AND kept herself available to field others via email and phone. She has been just as careful in handling the air quality issues we have been dealing with (2020, you can just cool it now). I am blown away at the amount of time she spends communicating with parents about what's going on, what to expect, and how their kids are doing on a daily basis. Our son loves the school and feels very at ease there. After his first day when I was picking him up he was sad to leave and said, "Mama, can I come back here?" At his previous preschool he was always sad getting dropped off in the morning and it was brutal, so this was music to my ears. Then that same night as he was drifting off to sleep he said, "Mama, I love my new school." Totally unprompted on both accounts! We had looked at Mixed Greens online when he was just a baby, but never got around to going to an open house, and we missed the window to get him on the list. By a few strokes of luck we finally got a spot now that he's four, and we feel incredibly fortunate to have it. I know Mixed Greens (both campuses) on average has a two year waiting list, so don't dilly dally, go to an open house and get your kid in the list!!

The teachers have an impressive amount of child development experience while also having incredible personal skills. Our daughter loves going to school and we love seeing her grow in the environment! The owner/operator, Heather, is on her game. It is obvious as soon as you meet her that this is her life's work. The school runs more professionally than most schools I've seen. The school embodies Heather's vision that children learn through play, art, gardening, and music. Experts agree that early education has the most impact on a child's life when the days are filled with ample opportunities for young children to use and hear complex, interactive language; the curriculum supports a wide range of school-readiness goals that include social and emotional skills and active learning; the school encourages meaningful family involvement; and they have knowledgeable and well-qualified teachers. This is basically a description of Mixed Greens! Therefore, we are very thankful to be a part of the Mixed Greens family!

It's so very sad to see the enrollment declining. Obviously, the economy plays a part in that. The kids go on awesome field trips both locally and travel (Sacramento, San Francisco etc). Many trips to Wells Fargo center and SRJC. The kids start learning cursive in second grade. Which is almost unheard of these days!! The teachers are all wonderful and they work a ton of hours putting effort and thought into each of their students' educations and personal development. It's so nice to pull into the school and have other parents wave to you on their way in. A true family environment! So many of their students thrive in high school and they've produced a high percentage rate of college graduates! Some of which I know are doctors, attorneys etc. The church side of it has been putting on a free high school breakfast for several a years now to the Santa Rosa High School Students. If you're not "religious", that's okay too! There's no pressure (and as a parent, I know several students who's family are non-believers). But trust me, your child will see such goodness in all the people here that they'll feel the love of Jesus here! It's incredible!! Such an awesome school! If you're looking for a safe, educational place for your child to thrive- call Jennifer Griego at the office and schedule a tour! They have before/after school care- so, I'm able to sometimes drop my son off early and pick up a little late and it's no problem. My son even sometimes asks if he can stay to play.. Ha! Check it out!

The school is warm, inviting, and honestly you can feel how happy everyone is, from the students, to the teachers, to the parents. I am so thankful to be part of the St. Luke's family, and honestly, it does feel like family. The teachers are genuinely kind and you can tell they truly enjoy what they do. What I also love about St. Luke's is the curriculum. Unlike other preschools I visited, St. Luke's was the only school to post on a weekly basis what topics they are discussing, songs they are singing, and books they are reading. This changes every week and they show you day by day. As a working mother, being away from my daughter is emotionally hard, but knowing exactly what she is learning at school each day gives me so much peace of mind. It allows me to still feel very connected. I am impressed by the skills she has gained during her time at St. Luke's. Weekly she comes home with classroom work, so I get to see first hand her counting skills and handwriting skills expand. And they love art at St. Luke's! Every day at pick up, I collect her drawings, paintings, and seasonal craft projects. My daughter starts kindergarten in the fall of 2020, and although I am thrilled to see her experience all that elementary school has to offer, I know that we will we both miss this lovely school. For anyone considering preschools for their child, please visit St. Luke's. It is truly a treasure. *Someone reading this may not be affiliated with the Lutheran church. I am not Lutheran, and at no time have I ever been asked to provide my religious affiliation. As long as you are open to your child learning about Christianity, you will find this school to be a great fit. *
