I feel like there aren't enough…read moreinfos or perspectives about churches nowdays, hence, here's my quick thoughts about this church. GCCC's denomination is under Christian & Missionary Alliance that typically specialize about missionary efforts. About 200sh people show up every week - mostly young Koreans and Chinese working professionals (20s to 30s) + some families (15-30 kids) + college students. Coming from a legalistic church, I've been blessed with the pastors here & their grace based sermons. Pros: (1) The community aspect's great. The members are quite active & are always down to hang out. A lot of the members tend to move here from other cities. Due to this, they don't have much safety blanket to fall on, hence, they tend to give more efforts to get to know people / make friends in their new environment. (2) Small groups are a great way to find accountability as well as getting plugged into the church. (3) Currently, GCCC has both local mission partners & international mission trips opportunities (Spain, Cambodia) with ample serving opportunities at the church as well. (4) Metro accessible; This church's located inside Hilton Doubletree hotel & service starts at 11:30 a.m. on Sundays. Cons: (1) With this church being close to DC & filled with the younger professionals, some of the people do tend to come and go (temporary positions, internships, etc). At the same time, we do have many people that've stayed here for a long time. (2) Some of the more popular small group locations can be more packed than others. Tips: If you're a newcomer, just tell that to the ushers (we wear tags) in the welcoming table. I know it can be awkward / intimidating being the new guy in a church - you're not sure who to talk to, especially since many people break in convo groups. You can always just approach the ushers after service; We can answer any questions you might have, help you get plugged in, introduce you to our pastors or just chat & get to know you.

I was mainly drawn to MBC due to the sermons- great overall and they don't shy away from difficult topics. I can see David Platt's heart for the lost. The only thing that I've found difficult is building community with peers that are similar age range (30's) and life stage (they do small groups by location, not age... but this could a pro as well).

Traditional in style it was a great group of folks that are seemingly eager to move into the future with great energy. What a blessing to also have such rich history as part of the community. I met quite a few folks who had been there for a while as long as many who were recent additions. Always a good sign. As of this post, they have an interim pastor and are looking for a new Head of Staff. Give them a try as good things are surely ahead of them. Disclaimer: I give every church a five just because not every church is perfect but it is a five to someone AND I will never review a church that I wouldn't try myself if I were looking. No need to bad mouth freaky churches because they are uh, well, freaky.

We were privileged to be in a small group in Daniel's home where he led studies in Romans and 1 Corinthians. Also, Daniel oversaw the Deepening Your Faith/Apologetics ministry that gave us a solid foundation for our Christian worldview. Daniel takes to heart 2 Timothy 2:15 and carefully and correctly explains God's Word. God has used him to teach us how to study the Bible - exegesis/seeking the original intended meaning of text. As believers, we should steer clear of those teachers who make the Bible say whatever they want (eisegesis). With Pastor Daniel, you will get God's Word carefully taught for His glory. (The hubby says, "Daniel teaches deep biblical truth in a way that it is easy to understand - truly an anointed teacher.") During a Bible study, I remember Pastor Daniel saying, "Much of the New Testament is about loving the brethren." Loving the brethren can't be done in isolation. You will be loved well and will be able to love others at Providence Baptist Church.

I found my new church home! It only took two services for me to realize this is where I need to be…read more The praise and worship is moving, the word always seems to be on point, they have a mix of younger with the older and families, are actively involved in a global and community way, and have various groups and events for you to get involved in. I always feel warmly welcomed when I come, and the Pastors always make time to speak with members after service. Having 3 different services is a plus too, and I haven't had any issues finding parking on the street. There's free coffee and snake before and after service, and an overflow area outside the sanctuary for watching services as well. Next Saturday is their Do Good Global Meal Pack, where we'll be packing 275,000 to send to children in the Dominican Republic along with Kids Around the World.
