Confusing signage, locked doors everywhere. Would have loved to check it out but no way open or in (despite signs telling me to use the locked doors) and no one around to help. Seems lovely for those who know the ropes or have special access!

I don't attend one, but I love cathedrals. I can describe it as breathtaking. You park in the gated lot, and go around to the side, which I think is the main entrance. Then I went into the sanctuary. Oh my. I've been to several cathedrals in my traveling, even the large St. Francis of Assisi in Santa Fe, NM. They strike my curiosity. The castle like interior, and the stone exterior with towers and black wrought iron brings one back to a different time period. That's cause this cathedral has been in KC since 1870...I'm not a cathedral geek, I read it in the brochure. The inside of the sanctuary has pews that are wooden and sound creeky. They are old and smell of cedar. The stage, well, I guess it's the pulpit area, is lavish with wrought iron decorating the top of center of the stage. It looks like an open wrought iron gate. Really, it's difficult to describe. It's a not miss, even if you don't attend church, just go inside and look at the sanctuary. I don't know the hours, but it's a definite destination for anyone traveling to Kansas City. It's huge. And the sound system was right on. The stained glass is out standing. They have an art show going on, called Tranformations. The organ music is grand, just grand. So I suggest taking a trip to visit this cathedral just once. It's gorgeous, and breath taking.

Currently, they are meeting in person and masks are optional if you have been vaccinated. Holly McKissick is the lead pastor and I loved her sermons that were to the point, challenging, relatable and inspiring. Once the church began meeting on Sundays we tried them out and have been attending a few weeks now. The worship service is contemporary and laid back. In person attendance looks to be about 60-75 and maybe a similar number who attend via Zoom. I like that the church is devoted to social justice and working to help the most vulnerable in the community and I have an opportunity to be a part of that. The church is very friendly and inclusive as a church family should be. I would define the church as progressive, if you consider the fact that Jesus' teaching and actions were progressive. I was made to feel at home even on my first visit. The church is open to all regardless of race, gender, social status, sexual orientation, gender identity, faith background, age, etc. I think this is our new church home and I highly recommend others try it out.

When I first arrived in town I was going through a rough patch. The staff at this church helped me spiritual and mentally and have become dear friends! highly recommend for anyone who is looking for a community that is like family.

It needs to be shut down. It's a deceptive business. A CULT! I checked it out about 18 years ago to…read moresee what it's all about. What we discovered was VERY intense pressure to take their EXCESSIVELY expensive "classes." One fellow named Eric tried to get me to stop going to my doctor. We finally were able to leave, after a neighbor came to get us. Yes, these people tried everything to stop our leaving. It was close to kidnapping. I got home and started researching them, and discovered that adherents go into debt to Scientology to pay for those classes. Some cost $20k, no kidding! All those classes are in the quest of their sect, to get a person's mind to a "clear" state, clear of little beings named "thetans." Ridiculous, isn't it? Well I also discovered that celebrities are treated very well, pampered actually, so as to lure regular folks to join. Regular folks are outright abused, and forced to work off the prices of their worthless "classes" for YEARS in various Scientology locations. And if anyone ever tries to leave, Scientology's warped lawyers will come after them tooth and nail, trashing that person's reputation, as they did with Leah Remini. That's IF they are able to escape! Look up what Scientology did to Lisa McPherson. Scientology is NOT any type of Christian sect, so the "cross" atop their buildings is just for show. There's statues and busts of their founder, a science fiction writer all over the place. And I've repeatedly, over 16 years, ordered them to have no more contact with me. And they have not respected my orders, and repeatedly contacted me--even after I moved more than 200 miles away and changed my phone number. AVOID THIS PLACE AND THE ORGANIZATION LIKE THE PLAGUE. Because in many ways, that's what they are.
