Constant contact with the school. I receive weekly emails from the director, updating me on lesson plans and any special events (think field trips and fundraisers). The teachers call parents monthly to address any concerns or questions we may have. Each month, photos of my child are uploaded to a private Snapfish account. They're cloth diaper friendly! Your child brings their own lunch each day, or you can opt to order lunch (menus and order forms are available from the school). Right now, my sons options for ordering lunch are Mac and Cheese from McAlisters Deli one on day, or Grilled Chicken from Applebee's on another day. Refrigerators and microwaves are available in the classroom, so my son generally takes leftovers for lunch. Also, the school is completely nut free! Okay...but what about academics?? Each week has a theme. Let's take the week they learned about dental health as an example. It included making tooth artwork, reading books about teeth, a visit from a dentist and learning the Spanish word for teeth (diente). In the short time my son has been in attendance, he's made so much progress. Their program truly is Kindergarten Prep. I can't wait until my younger son begins school here in the fall.

It has been such a FANTASTIC experience. The director knew every kid by name. The teachers were superb and absolute saints! They taught her so much this past year. My kid never wanted to miss school, not even for fun stuff. She knows her alphabet, numbers, some blends, colors, shapes, how to behave in a structured environment, and more. I felt she was safe and very well cared for. Absolute five stars and will recommend to anyone else who lives in the area.

PARENTS BEWARE PART 2…read more School is about to start and I have made it a mission to educate anyone on Northside Christian School. Please understand I am passionate about the learning process and I respect the teaching field. Trust me when I say do your research and ask other parents/students who don't attend church and/or work there how far behind in technology most of the teachers are and how the school don;t have the staff or administration to hold the teachers accountable to following a structured teaching guide that good for the student that does not plan to go onto Bod Jones Christina college. BEWARE of Mr. Rysta he is a awful non-caring teacher. This is the prime example of a teacher who has tenure in the school and doesn't care what is best for the student but what is more convenient for him. Is totally opposed to communicating with parents who want to be involved and asks for conferences to discuss any concerns that may highlight what he is lacking. This school totally changed my childs personality. The kid who always happy and smiling was often sad and felt like he was being ignored by some of his teachers. He would express they would ignore him trying to raise his hand and get help for classwork. When I asked him what was the problem he would say too many students in one class. I was told there would be smaller classes so that was a lie that was told to make us feel comfortable. There is only one set of teachers for each grade and that teacher will teach more than one class so of course they would be exhausted and ignoring students. I just want to avoid any parent from thinking they found a great school that will be a great educational institution for their child to understand this school is not what they sell you and I be the reviews are from church members. I have spoken to others who felt the same way but instead of taking time to write about it in the comment section they just talk about it and leave it at that. I on the other feel that it is my duty to let other's know really what is happening once you commit and start paying the tuition. If you feel that I am upset or my child has problems totally not the case. He is a bright kid and was totally broken while he was here. He completed the year and we decided to enroll him at another school where he can enjoy the learning process with people who care about the children and have a heart for teaching, I have NEVER experienced such a God awful experience in any of my other children who have been in Christian schools for 1/2 of their education.

My daughter Destinee' Sweet attends Northwood Academy. On yesterday 11/4/2020 my 12 year old…read moredaughter was a Victim of Extreme and Excessive Racial Bullying. Three Caucasian boys in her 7th grade class called her "Nigger" MULTIPLE times! She is the only African American student in the class. She along with other students who witnessed this disgusting act of racism told the teachers Mrs. Harbor and Mr. White who reported the boys to the principal immediately! The principal Mr. Combs called my husband's phone and stated in a voicemail "I'm calling to report a situation not a bad one though, we've handled it and all, but 2 boys called your daughter the N word...we've handled it by suspending these boys for 2 days so that they can sit home and think about their behavior they will return to school on the following Tuesday." Issue #1: HE DID NOT CALL THE PRIMARY NUMBER ON THE PROFILE! Which is my number. (843.751.5887) Issue #2: HE THOUGHT AN AFRICAN AMERICAN STUDENT BEING CALLED A "NIGGER" was not a bad situation. Issue #3: Northwood Academy Does not have a 0 tolerance for Racism in place in the student handbook! Issue #4: ONLY 2 days suspension then the boys would be right back in the same classroom with my daughter by next week and subject her to the same acts of racism all over again. Issue #5: Northwood Academy has Administrators who Advocate for Racism and are not able to make sound decisions due to the "Buddy System" that is in place at this Academy. Both Principals at the Upper School allow a personal relationship with one of the violators parent's who also works at the school to avoid handling a very serious situation as if it was a normal situation. When I arrived at the school, the Head Principal Dr. Anderson explained that the boys were written up as a 2nd level offense and that's the highest level of punishment that they could grant these boys who obviously don't see African Americans as their equal. I asked why they were not written up on a 3rd level offense and set for expulsion? Calling someone a "Nigger" multiple times in a room where they are the only African American in the room is a count of racism, extreme bullying, explicit language, major disrespect, and an act to start a racial war and riot. I was told the decision of a 2 day suspension was final and that they (Mr. Combs, Dr. Anderson, and Mr. Evanoff, could NOT move my daughter to another class. When I asked why she had to face her violators for the remainder of the school year I was told, "We should forgive those who sin against us the way that JESUS forgives us for our sins!" The decision for a 2 day OSS was made with no Board Members present. The Director over the school Larry Evanoff stated that he contacted Northwood Academy School Board Members and they made the decision to Expel the violators from the school. This is UNACCEPTABLE and will be handled accordingly. I will make sure News Press in each of our surrounding counties are aware at the Advocacy of Racism that exist within Northwood Academy's administrative staff. I will assure that there is a policy in place at Northwood Academy for 0 tolerance of racism. I will share this issue with my community members and the board of the local charter school in which I am an Executive Board Member of. Darlene Anderson and Curt Combs are good friends of the Mother of one of the boys that violated my daughter, she just so happens to work at Northwood Academy Lower School. This concerns me and will also concern the community. If one of NA students thought that using a racial slur referencing an African American student and racially attacking her over and over again was acceptable, I can only imagine how his Mother feels about her African American students that she teaches at Northwood Academy Lower School. I have witnesses who's children currently attend, attended in the past, and Alumni of Northwood Academy that a 0 tolerance for Racism has never been in the handbook and does not exist within the school. I have had conversations with people of the Northwood Academy Community state that the word "Nigger" is of common use in the classrooms of Northwood Academy. Its been stated that the Principal and Assistant Principal have "swept" these racial issues under the rug for over 30 years. It is time for Northwood Academy to create a culture that is safe for each of it's students by creating an atmosphere with 0 tolerance for racism and get rid of the Racial Advocacy Program within the Administration. Neither of the principals even asked my daughter if she was ok. Instead they sent her back to class with tears in her eyes! She could not escape the bullying. This situation could have been much worse relative to the bullying incident that has caused the death of a student at a school local to Northwood Academy. I Thank God that my daughter is safe and was not harmed by these bullies!

Please be cautious before trusting St Luke's Children's Center w/ your kids…read more My daughter attended St Luke's CC. She had behavior issues. One morning, after a long, difficult struggle, we decided to spank her. Because I stupidly believed their whole "working together" pitch, I mentioned to her St Luke's teacher that I had spanked our daughter. WITHOUT A SINGLE WORD, they waited til I left, photographed my daughter's back side (no marks), and called the cops! DSS got involved and - that same day - told me I'd done nothing wrong. A DSS management-level person asked to meet with me and told me DSS had similar "over-reactions" from St Luke's Childrens Center. She asked me to keep her statement between me and her, then she suggested I switch preschools. DSS closed the incident that same day. Several teachers at St. Luke's also suggested I change pre-schools - requesting anonymity bc they feared losing their jobs. I went to the preschool director and politely asked what in the world she was thinking when she called the cops. She bobbed and weaved, but essentially admitted her motivation was that she disagreed with corporeal punishment, even though it's legal in this state. I had to request my meeting with the Children's Center director. None of the church leaders reached out to me during any of part of this. I got my daughter out of St. Luke's as quietly as possible, not wanting to make waves that would scar her further. But this incident hurt her at the time and hurt our family, our trust in church, our trust in God... I have waited a considerable time to post this review because I don't want anyone who spoke to me on condition of privacy to get any blow-back. I looked at their website, it appears the St. Lukes CC director at the time this happened is gone, as are sonof the teachers. In retrospect, I think the director at the time and a cliche of teachers put their desire to be social engineers ahead of the best interest of my daughter. I don't even like to drive past St. Luke's. I would never recommend St. Luke's Childrens Center to anyone. ******* Seven months since I posted this review. Notice there has been ZERO response from anyone at St. Luke's. Not surprising. They can't openly say who they are or what they stand for. When called out on their actual motivations, they can only hunker down in silence. Not people you want shaping your child's character.
