Ruben works the outside & gets the names while the rest of us work the inside of the truck handing out breakfasts to the families. The families get to choose cold cereal or oatmeal if it's available. We make up bags of assorted breakfast items. Granola bars, juice, milk, fruit cups., etc. Everything you need including spoons. I really enjoy being able to help out others who are not as fortunate to have a good meal whenever they want. I love the fact that LI Cares affords you the ability to personally hand out the food directly to the people who need it. No wondering where your money goes, hoping it's actually reaching the people. It is. The appreciation shows on their face when you hand them that bag. Everyone is kind & gracious. So for me it's a win win situation. Everyone including the volunteers leaves with a smile on their face. From what I've experienced Long Island Cares is a great organization that directly helps & effects the community. Check them out in your spare time. Giving back is so fulfilling! Especially if you have a great crew like Denis, Ruben, Kate, Melissa, & Paul aka Linda to work with. I can totally seeing this being a complete hoot when Ruben, PaulLinda, and Melissa on the truck. Dennis may think I'm a little too wired for the morning but it's quite alright. Hahah. Unfortunately Christina and I were on the truck for a short amount of time because our big rush was when we first opened up the truck. But let me tell you... it is so fulfilling to see the community you're helping out. Everyone was pleasant and grateful for our smiling faces on the truck giving them their breakfast. Like I will continue to say next time you guys need me just let me know and I'll hopefully be able to help out. Completed week six of seven of CDCLI's home repair and maintenance course. Absolutely loved it!…read more Jacob taught our classes. Learned how to put up drywall, spackling, painting, basic plumbing and tiling. Last class is basic electric. Makes you feel empowered and able to make informed decisions when hiring a contractor. Definitely recommend!

Today's visit to this Small building- Sr. Community Center on Grumman Road West off of South Oyster…read morebay Road, down road some and in back of big parking lot area, brought us to the LI Model Train show and Trainville Hobby Depot, Owned by Barbara and Joe. There were a few signs posted to follow to the location. Handicap door not working but there was a young guard diligently helping people in and out. Sign-in area pay 7 dollars per adult. 2 raffle tickets to fill in and drop by back table where Jim was working. ( see pix) Some displays of various miniature trains and one very nice trolley set up through the Long Island Traction Society. At another display Ryan shared with me the bottle used for smoke ( mineral oil safe) coming out of the caboose. Even miniature Winnie the Pooh and T- ig- GER Too. Some trains had holiday themes as Valentine's Day and Saint Patrick's Day. Flyers were given out for other scheduled dates as well as Oyster Bay Railroad Museum info.

The community center serves educational, recreational and the exercising needs of the community as well as neighboring communities and is able to be used for a nominal fee for those of the community and a slightly higher fee for those who don't live within it. The staff is very helpful and courteous in helping you meet your need in doing whatever it is you'd like to accomplish during your visit. I'll continue to support the center and encourage those who live within the community of westbury or neighboring town to stop by for a tour of the facility and support.

I had an appointment there at 4:00 on Tuesday 3/3. As I was almost at the consent portion at the end of the questionnaire, an error symbol popped up. I stood up to let somebody know & a guy with dark hair & a low bun came over and said"what did you do?!" Not very nice to put it mildly. I told him I didn't touch anything to which he remarked "uh okay" again nasty. Then he goes to the other nasty older lady with blondish hair, says something & she says "what, did she screw it up"? Not even 10 feet from me! He comes back & says "well now I have to wait for someone with the authority to reset this bc I can't do it, I don't know what you did" I tell him again, I didn't do anything to which he says " well now you have to wait". I couldn't believe this guy. So I wait for about 25 mins, not great but whatever, as he and the blondish lady are literally talking about me! Looking at me, looking at each other m, looking at me, rolling their eyes. Even making eye contact w/ me & holding it! Unreal. So the man they were waiting for Paul apparently returns, the guy with the bun comes over, resets the computer for me and says nasty again " if you have another issue, ask someone, don't touch anything"! With dramatic arm gestures like I'm a child. I start the questionnaire over again annoyed as he returns to the lady & starts talking about me again! At this point I've had it. I literally stood up, started putting on my coat when the lady comes over & says "is everything ok"? I said "no, I'm done here, I'm going to go to the Melville location. She says "the computer is the same there" I say"it's not the computer, you people are awful" I'm not someone who complains or causes drama whatsoever but at this point, I was so angry at the unprofessional demeanor of these people. I live in Massapequa where this location is & it was so bad I drove all the way to Melville at the peak of rush hour in the rain, that's how bad it was. The staff in Melville were great.chris behind the desk, Jennifer, and the other lady with the strawberry blond hair I didn't get the name of. Thank you so much for making my experience with you guys professional & extremely pleasant, you were so great. I honestly feel these other 2 in massapequa should not be dealing with people. They should be put at a desk behind the scenes & do data entry. I'm sorry this is so long but I had to get this out, I've haven't been able to get it out of my head.
