To stand out from the rest I wished they would do something to enhance the facade inside or out! To be able to afford a shop is not cheap on the rental aspect plus staff are usually volunteers, so me thinks the organisation will have some dosh to spare and do it up. Short of sitting out the front in my car tallying up the number of visitors they have daily, I needn't bother as I can tell it's not going to have door busting episodes. Inside is not exciting either with the usual suspect items available, toys, shoes, bags, clothes, jewellery, etc. But depending on the day you never know what might be lurking underneath the rubble. At least some shelving will get the pile of shoes off the floor! I really do admire the people that volunteer their time to be present and run the shop but there needs to be some enticement to attract a younger, keener and more energetic people for an injection of styling. Well, this store sells vintage cut clothing created in new materials. There is nothing wrong with mixing the new with the old. In particular, they stock a really cute line called "Hell Bunny" in an alternative vintage style. Featuring unicorn, skulls, roses and cute polka dot prints. Why not, I say!! The other attractive thing about this store is that you can hire vintage clothing as well. So when you have your next party and you are thinking of a theme, there is nothing classier than the threads offered here. There are costumes for men and women from 20s - 80s!

However, they do often have some good women's clothing, if you can look past the messy presentation. Amid the daggy pieces are some nice quality tops, and they are also good for summer dresses and formal dresses, sometimes pricing things at much lower than standard op-shop prices (though sometimes pricing them high - I think it depends on which volunteer did it!). At the moment, just before Christmas, there are a lot of women's dresses, and plenty of nice ones too. It seems that people have recently cleaned out their wardrobes and ditched the clothes they are sick of or no longer fit. So it's a very good time for op-shopping! The book selection here is low quality, and much of it is very dated. They have quite a large range of kids toys and clothes, and some men's clothing, and that's about it. It's an amusing place when you happen upon an elderly Russian lady trying to bargain down a winter coat with a determined shop volunteer. The bartering became quite heated, and she wasn't leaving the store without this coat, nor was she getting the enormous discount she wanted. Op-shops can be amusing places, and are always worth a visit.

There's always a bargain to be had in these types of stores and alot of it is a case of being in the right place at the right time. Clothing, shoes, accessories, pot, pans, mugs, glassware and general bric a brack is the order of these cheap stores and thank goodness they exist, otherwise it's all be called 'vintage'. I totally agree with Jo B as it really does depend on what volunteer sales person you get served by and the price you end up getting or bartering for, some just don't give in that easy. But I have to say I don't tend to barter that much with Vinnies or any other cheap store, considering the item was possibility two or three times the price it is now. Plus some of these stores don't know what the item/s are actually worth, I'm sure other 'vintage' shop owners pop into these shops on a regular basis to poach and re-sell. Another thing is, taking into account the money is going towards a good cause gives me that warm, fuzzy feeling.

New on the scene, this shop is filled with vintage treasures scouted from thrift stores for charity. They have dresses, skirts, pants, shorts, jackets, men's clothing, shoes, hats, gloves, books, glasses, jewelry, and knick-knacks to please a vintage treasure hunter. New life is being recycled into a new fashion trend sensation, which has been slowly emerging over the last few years. The revival of vintage fashion and furniture our grannies and grandpa's had is sitting within this small shop facing Hawker St, it's a tiny niche with only a handful of shops but there's more on the way. The displays are non cluttered so it's not a rummage sale environment but carefully and delicately placed about the shop. Lots of orange and honey coloured furniture brighten up the store along with browns, greens and the paler tones of yesteryear. I have to say I still don't really get what it is about vintage that's so appealing, perhaps it's a psychological thing going back to my childhood when my mum dragged me around after school to the op shops and the smell of moth balls still lingers in my memory. Thank god they don't smell like that anymore - well some do but we won't go there - instead it's a real past time searching through stuff people have discarded and the same stuff some of us threw away because it was old and wanted the latest new stuff, which of course didn't last as long. (N.B. Hand picked means no junk, just charm and appeal). Rachel the owner is also one of the smiliest, friendliest loveliest people ever. Just have one conversation with her and she'll turn a bad day around or make an average day great, she is blessed with such positivity I like to steal a little sometimes! The prices are also great and although everything is carefully hand picked the prices don't suffer any undue inflation. They support the silent plight of animals in need for all manner of care and support and only we can help them. All the money raised from sales in their stores goes directly to the RSPCA Animal Shelter, to provide shelter for homeless animals. Cheap and cheerful is their motto and there are bargains to be had at this little known store and they need all the support they can get. It stocks rack upon rack of clothing, shoes, pots and pans, jewellery, pictures and all the items you'd expect at one of these types of shops. Who knows...you may even find a Picasso or something along those lines, it has happened!

Prices at this RSPCA are inexpensive and they have a pretty good turn over of product, there's always some new donated trinket I couldn't possibly part without purchasing. Volunteers tend to be quite elderly with poor hearing, maths skills or any concept of what items should cost. Do not try and persuade them of how they have undercharged you because they won't hear and if they do, won't listen. RSPCA stores also have loyalty cards which give you a star for every $5 you spend. When you've got a certain amount of holes in your card, you get $5 off your next purchase. Due to it being an animal charity, this RSPCA store has leashes, collars and toys on offer to take back to your pussycats and pooches. These might be available in other RSPCA stores too, but I've never seen them. Pet stuff is displayed prominently to the left of the counter.

They buy their clothing directly from people who bring in their "too good to throw away" pieces or vintage treasures, then mark it up to make a profit. As such, it's basically an expensive op-shop, though with way better quality clothing, and a range of very quirky styles. It's much bigger inside than you'd first expect, as it goes back into another space, so there's a huge range of clothing in here. It also doesn't appear to be arranged in any kind of order, so you really have to hunt through everything. It's quite a bit of fun! And you could find absolutely anything hiding in the depths.

Last winter, I snapped a black leather jacket at the clearance rack for a mere 50cents. You heard me right. 50 cents. Ladies will go crazy over the women's section. Bountiful of fashionable tops, skirts, dresses, prom gowns, corporate gear and gorgeous pant suits for the working woman in you. Hip and funky accessories line shelves and wall brackets, all pleading to be worn and taken home. I've picked up some fabulous items here from my last visit. A wine rack which I turned into a shoe rack ($10), a cat painting ($5), kitchenware ($12) and tops (under $10). A must to visit if you haven't already. Add this to your next op shopping store list as there are plenty of op shops along the road and in the close vicinity.
