I recently had a mole on my leg that my dermatologist recommende…read mored removing for biopsy. I was a bit apprehensive because I had previously undergone a similar procedure on my back for a very small mole, which left a noticeable scar despite only requiring three stitches. This time, the mole on my leg was also very small, so I was hoping for a careful and minimally invasive procedure. However, while filling out the pre-procedure form, the nurse assisting me confused "left" with "right" and mentioned she was very tired at that point in the day. I remember thinking I hoped she would not be the one performing the procedure -- but she was. The result was disappointing: such a tiny mole ended up leaving a scar that required four stitches that looked more like veterinary stitches, or when you mend clothes, very poorly done.I I even consulted my GP to ask if the stitches could be redone for a better cosmetic outcome, but was advised against it. Now I am left with large, unattractive stitches which will leave a scar. Beyond the technical aspect, I also found the overall attitude and communication lacking empathy and professionalism. Unfortunately, this experience left me with the certainty that I will not return to this dermatology department for any further procedures. It is a pity, as patient care and compassion are just as important as medical treatment.

It's striking red brick facade and high spires make it the most striking landmark on Upper Baggot street. It was built in 1832 and part of it's history involved treating wounded soldiers from the first World War. Nowadays it offers services for mental health, physiotherapy and addiction treatment. Well worth the 15-20min walk from the top of Grafton street. It overlooks a gaggle of coffee shops, so you can enjoy a drink and admire the building. The canal is a stones throw away so afterwards you could take a potter down there.

Yep, when I make a horror film with Nicole Kidman I'll set it here. In fact, Rosemary's Baby would've worked as well here as that spooky place in New York they found. As a Dubliner you can be inclined not to mention buildings like this despite walking past them everyday. So, next time look up and check out the cool weathered copper look-out tower and hope that you never get locked in during a storm.

He jsut asked me if alians are controlling my mind, if the TV is talking to me and if I have thoughts of killing people, then he increased my anitdpresants and sent me on my way. No communication around delays or what to expect. Nurse couldn't find a vein in 3 places. I'm black and blue. When she did find one she lost it and then explained she didn't know if she had finally found one. The surgeon would know when they tried to sedate me. 5 hours after arriving I got to theatre. No apologies nothing and a mouth piece put in. I'm fasting no food or water and sedative is administered. Felt nothing and tried to let the surgeon know but the nurse pushed my head down told me not to move or try speaking.... In recovery and removed everything myself bar the cannula. No one came near me. They almost forgot to take bloods again before I left. Private hospital????

This review is for the Emergency Department in particular…read more I gotta say I'm impressed. I went in through main reception and they pleasantly directed me to the right area. Once in the hospital part, everyone was lovely. When I reached the ER, it was calm quiet and only 2 other people were there waiting. My details were taken, a wrist band was placed on me and I waited on a chair for all of 4 minutes. I was then seen by a nurse who took all the particulars of the problem, asked me a whole lot of questions. She took my temp, not with any old archaic mechanism..she waved what I can only assume is a tricorder in front of my forehead!! She then took me to a room with a bed and fancy machines. This was no trolly with a curtain. A full fledged bed (very comfy as well) in a proper room with walls and a sliding frosted glass door. (open and closed by hand motions..I felt I was on the USS Enterprise!) I was given a nice soft cotton gown, fairly decent for a hospital gown and was told they were going to give me an ECG. The nurse arrived about 10 mins later and he was absolutely lovely. Did the ECG, then went saying someone would come for bloods shorty. About 10 mins later, yes, the nurse arrived to take blood. She kept me chatting and although she had some difficulty in getting anything from me (I'm hard to get blood from) I'm delighted to report that I've barely a mark from it. My GP usually makes a balls of it and I have bruises everywhere from it. The ECG guy arrived back a few minutes later to take me to xray. Again, very pleasant chap. The xray person was so nice as well. Back in my room, I waited maybe 20 minutes for the Dr. He came in, seen me, and said as long as my bloods came back OK I could go home. 10 minutes later the results were in and I could go. From the time I walked in the door, until I walked out: 2 hours. Can you imagine if I'd have gone elsewhere? A few years back I was sent to ER elsewhere by a Dr, I had to wait 4 hours just to get a nurse to speak with me. Then another 2 hours for the Dr to see me. I used to work in a hospital for a bit, the number of people waiting over 2 days to be tested and seen by a Dr was frightening. I know people sneer at the cost, and its a shame they have a review of 1 star because of their parking charges, but what value do you put on your health? I know people who spend more on dinner and drinks than a visit here costs. Everyone has their priorities, mine is this. Ireland has created this 2 tier system, thankfully I have the capacity to pay. For full disclosure, I paid 140 euros to attend and the ECG, X-rays and full bloodwork came to 240. 380 in total. Totally worth every penny. If I needed to, I'd take a out loan to go again if I had to.

Appointments happen at a speed unheard of in the public health system and they have a clinic where you can have blood taken on site with very little waiting. Seeing the consultants are very pricey and you might feel the bums rush a little when you actually pay a lot to get very little of their time! On saying that they have all the right people there are can refer you in house to other specialists. So it's good but you might need to save up to go there!

It's odd but when I thought about reflecting the experience here the first thing that struck me was…read morethat there's likely 20 different trade unions representing members in this employment: consultants, doctors, radiographers, nurses, boiler-men, podiatrists, junior clerical, senior management and so on. We were here to visit a relative experiencing real challenges. He got a heart - related device implanted several weeks ago: AF, cardiomyopathy. Once fitted, he took himself off to southern Spain allegedly to relax which he tells me included extensive exertion swimming long distances in the sea every morning. The upshot after a few weeks was he developed an infection in the surgical wound that led to Spanish hospital admission. Once fit to fly he returned home on a Saturday, presenting to the private hospital that fitted the device on a Monday. He's there now four weeks. I suppose there's no fool like an old fool after all. They've apparently thrown out the first €12k device. They'll put in another at €12k once his infections, that following a TEE procedure also confirmed a heart infection, clear up; with the help of pretty sizeable antibiotic doses. The Irish Republic has an American - based medical system thanks to a numbskull politician Mary Harney; it also has huge housing, education and immigration problems. Mary is now 71 and may soon learn first hand how awful the health system is for 99% of the population. All she needs is one serious illness to empty her bank accounts: doctors must have their pockets stuffed with gold. The American system gives most Irish people the worst of all worlds despite paying a lot of money. They aren't treated on clinical need rather and usually via pricy insurance on ability to pay. Despite good health insurance our relative now has to find at least €40,000 and counting from his own resources this year. That would make one ill. The hospital is grotty, third world, chaotically run, with a Starbucks cafe in the main concourse that on top of already rip-off prices forces customers to use paper cups then adds 35 cents to the daylight robbery price for each cup. There is only one out of three toilets working here. A hospital, and the only one for miles around, has one working toilet for a lot of footfall and security staff that don't have English as a first language, taking the brunt of understandably unhappy people. They are the only folks prepared to take these low wage, crap, thankless jobs. If immigration stopped so would this badly broken health service that only helps fill the overseas bank accounts of multi millionaires and billionaires. The lily livered politicians are in fear and hock to these people instead of taxing and regulating them properly. Add to this mess Apple: not the fruit that keeps doctors away but the American mega company and the European Court of Justice who ruled Apple must pay Ireland €14 billion. It's a long story worth googling, there's a history here as Apple didn't want to pay and Irish politicians didn't want to receive. Yip it seems an Apple that pays keeps investment away. I think the politicians just don't know how to waste that amount of money. So the hospital reflects Ireland. It looks great from afar but up close it's broken. They can't even organise enough cataract operations to help repair their elderly citizens that built the country. Now it's a mini America. The politicians are useless so nothing will change. While they bungle, bluster and cock up most things (while enriching themselves) the mega companies, foreign and local millionaires and billionaires stuff the Caymans and such places with enough money from the great unwashed to make the €14 billion look like crumbs on the balance sheet. As for me I better stop visiting ill relatives in badly broken hospitals in a very badly run country.

I broke my arm on the pier when I was about ten, and my toe when I was about seventeen, but don't remember ever even having to queue here. It's an old hospital, with everything you'd expect from an old hospital; narrow corridors, lots of wood and Georgian style tiles. From an access point of view it's in the middle of Dun Laoghaire. The bus stops right in front of it. Parking may be a bit of a problem though, as there is no carpark worth talking about. I doubt it has a cafeteria, given the amount of restaurants in the immediate vicinity. If in doubt, Dunphy's across the road offers one of the finest pints in Dublin. There's also a weekend clinic if your GP is unavailable or you want a second opinion.

But having heard rather negative stories…read moreabout waiting times, I was nervous enough when my GP sent me for ECG and blood pressure tests. But I was very pleasantly surprised by St. Michaels. I walked there as I wasn't sure about the parking situation (and ended up never really investigating that further). The staff at reception was very friendly and helpful and there was basically no waiting time at all for my tests and again very friendly nurses and doctors that made me feel at ease. At a later point I went to the Outpatient Department for further tests and the same here. Friendly, well organised and competent. I felt very well looked after and everyone spoke to me in a language I could understand - bearing in mind English is not my mother tonque.

Referred to A&E by GP. Following a bad fall with a knock to…read morethe head that knocked me out. I was advised I needed a CT scan and Xray. 14 hours in A&E. Saw a triage nurse within 15 minutes. No follow up care since. No query as to my symptoms worsening or improving. Hospital Nurses and Dr amazing but the emergency department is no longer fit for purpose. Its too small, over crowded and cramped. People on trolleys packed in like sardines. Dr and nurses constantly shuffling trolleys jus to make contact and get to side of a patient to examine them. People in A&E tying up beds in A&E because they cant be admitted to wards, during the night. Knock on effect. A&E staff have no space to work with patients out in waiting rooms Also think the computer system is inadequate and outdated. Im witnessing to many Dr spending far too much time sitting at computers instead of carrying out primary care function. Whichvis seeing and evaluating patients. Bring a sleeping bag, pillow, phone charger, food and water with you. So you can lie down on floor while you wait. It will be more vomfotable than chairs provided and some seating is outdoors in a tent that was temporarily erected to deal with covid but is now in everyday use.
