This is my 2 month review of Prairie Fire. Well let's just say there are good things to say and bad things to say. I love being able to take my personal guns and shoot them at the open ranges. You can add your spouse to your account. Which is very nice. The monthly rate is $42 and the annual rate is $490. If you just pay monthly it's $504 for a year. So you get a $14 discount for paying a year up front. This doesn't really encourage me to commit to a year. I guess it's better than paying $30 an hour as a non-member. I'll just stick to monthly so I can easily cancel. I've worked with several RO's and they all have been wonderful. They are safety conscious, friendly, helpful and professional. I have nothing but excellent things to say about every RO I've worked with. Range 6, the pistol range, is very nice. There's around 15 - 20 down range targets and you can shoot anywhere from 7 to 25 yards. There's a sunshade going mostly across the range at 25 yards or so with picnic style tables. Very nice set up. Range 7, the 100 yard rifle range, is nice but a bit lacking. Again there are 15 - 20 down range targets. There are markers at 25 yard increments, sunshade and picnic tables. The problem here is there's only one bench to shoot from. When I bring my wife, I have to bring my own card table so she can shoot her 10/22. Not the most stable platform, but it is just a 10/22. I've mentioned this several times to office staff with no results. Even some of the RO's say they need more benches. So if you happen to be at the rifle range when there's several people there, good luck. Unless you're a prone shooter, you'll be taking turns or shooting from your own table. I brought my wife's two grandkids and one of them had to shoot their 10/22 from a picnic table. This is what my membership gets me? Now that leads me into a big negative. When I was thinking about becoming a member, I took a tour. I mentioned I'd like to bring the grandkids out to shoot. I was told if they are under 18, they shoot for free. I later confirmed this with other office staff. Well fast forward to last week and I booked the open range for me, my wife's daughter and the grandkids, who are both well under 18. When I arrived, the staff tried to charge me $30 per hour for each of them. What! After much ado they honored what I was originally told. Well as it turns out, grandchildren don't shoot for free. What they conveniently left out was, as a member, under age children only shoot for free if they live with you and are your dependents. Of course everyone had a case of memory loss when asked if they told me this. So be sure to always read the fine print or in this case document what you're told. I mean really you're trying to charge a member $30 an hour for non-dependent children. So for 3 hours you'd be forking out $180 for two kids. That's the same price for non-members. Where's the member benefit? It's not like we had 3 RO's, nope there was still just one RO with us and we had to supply our own table and shoot from a picnic table. So what are we paying extra for??? To their credit they did only charge my step daughter a one time fee of $30. Which is also something they told me they would do. So they did stand by their word on that point. But not without a hassle of course. The next huge negative was being misquoted on the cost of a class. Again when I was touring the facility we were scoping out, see what I did there, the 200 and 400 yard ranges. I mentioned I was in the process of building a 6mm ARC. The tour guide told me they had a long range world record holder on staff and he taught precision rifle classes. The tour guide told me the classes were $62.50 per day for members. I actually wrote this down on my notes as to not forget. Again I confirmed this price with office staff. When I went to actually book the class I was told it was $125 per day for members. Once again everyone involved had a bad case of memory loss. What made matters worse is when I talked to a manager, she went so far as to call me a liar. She said and I quote," I wrote the policies and I trained everyone. I don't believe X person ever said that price to you. So it's your word against his." So yea she called me a liar and refused to honor the verbally quoted price. I can't believe someone in a management position is so terrible at customer service and would act so unprofessionally to a member. Another problem here is there aren't any posted prices for this class on the website. So they can say anything they want. The class instructor has limited availability so you have to call or talk to someone directly to book this class. read more
