The hotel is in an old building with lots of charm (and slightly scary, narrow stairs). There are rooms on all three floors (no lift). Mine was nice enough - two twin beds, a table with two chairs, a desk, a hot water maker, a mini fridge, a fan, and a wardrobe. The bathroom was quite small and no-frills. Various bath items were offered: shampoo, conditioner, cream, sewing kit, and shower cap. Instant coffee, tea, and hot cocoa were also in the room, along with a couple cookies each day. There is no free internet, at least not for the standard double rooms. I found the room comfortable overall, but the bed was far too soft/saggy for me. If I lay on my side, my leg would fall asleep eventually. Firmer mattresses would be nice. The breakfast was good - coffee, tea, juices, cereal, muesli, canned fruit, yoghurt, hardboiled eggs, a basket of bread (raisin, white, rolls, croissant), a tray of cheese and meat, and a basket of butter, jam, hagelslag, and other spreads. It was a filling breakfast - so much so that I skipped lunch or just got a quick pastry each day. The staff was very nice. They got me into a room early (as I'd just arrived from the US and was very tired), were always helpful at reception, and were friendly and chatty at breakfast. They even let me leave my bag with them for a few hours after I checked out. I'd recommend the hotel. Wifi would be nice, though.

It's in a fantastic location -- right next to a gorgeous park and literally steps away from the Escher Museum. It's also just a short walk to the Mauritshuis (hello, Girl with a Pearl Earring ) and surrounded by lots of things to do, see, and eat. The hotel itself is beautiful -- elegant lobby, rich-looking dining hall, and we stayed in a junior suite that was spacious, comfortable, and full of thoughtful touches like tons of drawers and cabinet space. Service across the board was excellent -- from the concierge to the doorman to housekeeping, everyone was friendly and professional. Now, about the restaurant... that's where things got a little bumpy. There was one incident early on that I reported to the front desk, and to their credit, they were super apologetic -- even saying, "this isn't the first time this happened and we'll talk to the manager." (Okay... not sure if that was meant to make me feel better, but I appreciated the honesty?) Anyway, after that, they went above and beyond -- our breakfast table was magically reserved for us every morning, and the person who had slipped up before turned into the nicest person ever. I booked four nights through my Amex Platinum and got all the perks that come with it -- totally worth it. The stay overall was wonderful, but again, the restaurant really needs some tightening up. One dinner night, we waited over an hour for our food which's slow even by European standards, and they forgot our fries. When they realized it, they offered to bring us two orders to make up for it -- sweet gesture, but we declined because... well, we love fries, just not that much . They brought out mayo, ketchup, and truffle mayo (yum!) -- but then it got a bit awkward because I overheard an American gentleman behind me earlier asking for ketchup, and the waitress told him they didn't have any. My husband whispered, "He's looking at your ketchup." I wanted to offer him some, but by the time my fries arrived, his were long gone. Oops. Food-wise, everything else was really good -- especially the sea bass, perfectly cooked with crispy skin just the way it should be. All in all, despite a few restaurant quirks, I'd definitely stay here again next time I'm in The Hague. The service, comfort, and location more than make up for it -- just maybe skip dinner downstairs and explore the city's food scene instead!

After two nights staying at Hotel Emma, I am leaving with 14 mosquito bites and my daughter has at least 6. We killed at least 30 in our room during our stay. We are checking out a day early due to this, so I am happy to say we were refunded for the last night we are not staying. They will only refund if you booked the hotel directly on the website, so do not book through a third party if you do go there. Also, the mattresses are very thin and the rooms not so clean. The only good things about this hotel are that the central station is a half mile away, the breakfast provided is decent and the hotel staff is friendly. I cannot recommend this hotel due to the mosquitos an no air conditioning.

The room was clean, though quite cramped and the bathroom was cleaned if not a little small. The person at the check in was very puzzled on why we were bringing a mop but then when my husband explained it was because the surgery I was having gets quite messy and we don't want to get bloody fluid on stuff (stains like crazy) the hotel staff was quite appreciative. In fact, they had absolutely no issue giving us garbage bags to put over pillows to prop limbs up on, extra towels and whatever else we needed. The only downside aside from rooms being a little cramped is their parking lot, while free, is very small (think it fits 5 cars). If you don't get there first, there's a chance you're not getting a free spot and you'll have to do overnight parking at the Markthall (if you book online you pay 15 euro per 24 hours). Expensive, but the reality of such cramped quarters. Would I stay there again? Yes if I can't get into my regular hotel which is literally just a few steps away from the surgery.

I signalled this to reception to have it fixed, but unfortunately nothing was done. Breakfast buffet was excellent! I'm a big fan of fresh fruit and was happy to find fresh pineapple, watermelon, melon, mixed fruit salad... Besides a choice of bread rolls, eggs, bacon, sausages, fresh vegetables, Dutch bread sprinkles, etc the hotel also served "poffertjes" - a type of small pancakes you eat with butter and sugar. Wonderful! I had a pedicure at the Spa downstairs and was happy with the service. In general the staff was friendly and helpful.

One front desk agent went above and beyond in troubleshooting why our room's outlets weren't working, and ended up bringing up an extension cord and separate converter to make up for the in-desk faulty outlet. Another agent wasn't able to answer my question about local public transportation, and made no additional effort to find out of the answer or pass along the question to the other person working. Training seems... varied. Our real frustration was the check-in process-- their time estimates for when the room would be ready was off by several hours (and kept changing in-between), which is a huge setback when you're jetlagged and part of a group booking. I think next time we'll opt for an Airbnb for a third of the nightly cost.

Breakfast is continental only but very good re: choice and quality. A bad start turned into a good overall stay.
