When we first met with Mr. Brown to discuss the filing of federal and state taxes, we inquired about his associated fees. Mr. Brown quoted us $120.00 to $150.00 total. After agreeing to the price, we provided documentation for our returns. As per our request, Mr. Brown was to prepare our taxes and advise us on his findings prior to filing them. We were told we would receive a call to update us in approximately 4 hours. After a week with no word from his firm, we phoned for information concerning the returns. Upon our inquiry, we learned that he had already taken the liberty of filing our returns though we had asked to be consulted prior to the filing. The end result of his service was a negative balance on the return. Our bill for services rendered amounted to $360.00, a significant difference from the agreed upon fee scale. As the e-file had been submitted without our knowledge, we had no choice but to pay this outrageous fee.
