My wife broke her foot in California about 3 months ago and despite having having Blue Cross/…read moreBlue Shield insurance at frightening cost every cost every month we were unable to get anything done to start the healing process without paying in cash(100%) ourselves (which we did). In England we go to the Doc who wants to start the process with an X-ray at this hospital. My wife calls at 3pm hoping to make an appointment for next week. The response? Come on in right now if you can make it by 4:30 - which of course we did! The staff were GREAT, warm and friendly with a sense of humor and positive attitude. X-ray done and results sent to the Doc and we will discuss with him Monday. It was strange for us to get all of this done quickly without the US BS about checking insurance before you even walk in, then co-pays and everything else before you leave. Here you just leave focused on getting well. Was it free? Yes! Do they care about you? yes! The only money leaving my pocket was for parking the car! I had to get a follow-up eye pressure test to clear me for flying, and so came here initially on a…read moreSaturday to the A&E, where the staff were super nice and directed me back to the main hospital where the eye clinic is located in Ward 9. However when went to the eye clinic was informed they closed at noon on Saturday and while I could be admitted, I was looking at a 4-5 hr wait. The staff at reception instead suggested I should return back on Monday before 8:30am, as waiting times then would be less. So according, my brother dropped me off and I got there at 8:20-ish and was given nos 14. Got called an hour later and my information for registration was provided. Then back in line, when was called a second time and described to a nurse what happened. Then back to waiting, but this time in another space. Finally another nurse came out, examined my eye, said she wanted the Doctor to look at it, and back to waiting I went. Finally the Doctor came, said my eye was clearing up nicely and eye pressure was as it should be. I asked if could get a copy of my notes, as them would see a follow up optometrist in Amsterdam and then waited another 30 minutes after which an officious receptionist staff refused my request cause referral letters can only be addressed to a local GP, and I didn't have one! Whew - my experience here was so different (in a bad way) from Bristol Eye Hospital! Longer wait time of around 4 hrs and then they wouldn't make s photocopy of my notes! Not very pleased but at the same time grateful got my eyes checked and everything was fine. Yelp 176/ 2019

There has been a fight on lately to keep this integral part of the community open, as there is said…read moreto be no need for it. But Newmarket Hospital is very important to the community. Although there is no longer an accident and emergancy available at the hospital, it is a very busy hospital. Personally, I have used it for pregnancy scans and other x-rays, blood tests, midwife appointments, and out of hours gp visits. Without these, I would have had to travel 25 minutes to the nearest larger hospital, and having the emergancy doctor close by is so important, as without it I would have been wasting valuable time of the paramedics had I needed to call an ambulance. The hospital also takes care of a lot of the elderly members of the community, and the younger, by having a bay clinic twice a week. It would be a real shame and loss to the community if the hospital were to close down.
