There's only 3 stands at Scotstoun, but at £15 for a standing ticket (in advance) you can't complain about watching Glasgow's only pro rugby team. Watching rugby live isn't like watching it on TV, the atmosphere is much better than you'd expect for 6000 people. On match days you'll find plenty of small food trucks, a dedicated Guinness bar (pro12 sponsors) as well as the clubhouse which has a bar, food & pre/post match entertainment. There's a merchant stall as well as a kids zone to keep the wains entertained. The one difference between football & rugby games is that you'll find some of the players wandering around & taking part in passing circles with kids etc. If you've never been down to a rugby match at Scotstoun, then you're missing out on a great afternoon/evening. There's beer as well!

In line with the general run of Glasgow Council's pools, the centre is immaculately clean, and a gym membership covers all of the Council's sports' facilities. The gym is busy and businesslike: Scoutstoun is the ideal place for a complete work out, even if it is some distance from the town centre and slightly off the beaten track. The sauna suite suite is especially impressive, with a women only night on Tuesday, but it always worth catching a class or two. The Body Combat is good for a high energy laugh.

I visited here for a special event last year - a tea dance hosted by Cushion & Cake. It's tucked away off the Finnieston strip so be sure to check out your Yelp map before setting out, lest you get lost along the way. It's a hall which can be hired and set up how you fancy. For this event, there was lovely set out tables along the sides of the room with the middle left free for dancing. We were there for a few hours and generally the space was really nice and enjoyable - the only downside being there weren't really enough loos for the amount of ladies that were there. You can park on the street, and it's a generally nice space which would be worth looking into for a mid-sized event (it could probably hold up to about 60 people I'd guess!).

Our instructor Mark was excellent, particularly given that the group was 2 adults and 2 teenagers - he kept all of our attention, and ensured that we were all safe and competent, and weren't going to let each other accidentally plunge to our deaths/severe injury. I felt very safe the whole time. I don't know much about climbing, and what particular features or challenges that you'd look for from a climbing centre, but this place looked pretty awesome to me. Because it's in an old church, the climbing walls are really high, and there's loads of them, with all sorts of different gradients, and a big overhanging wall too. There's also a bouldering area in the basement. There was a cafe, which wasn't open when we were there, but looked like it provided some nice healthy options - there was a choice of smoothies which caught my eye. I thought an hour wouldn't be long enough, but even though I'd only done 3 climbs, my arms were pure burst by the end, so it was actually plenty of time. I'd love to go back here and practice some more.

No its not Thursday night is fetish night, its the Glasgow Climbing Centre. Opened since 1994 and still going strong, the climbing centre offers a fantastic opportunity to do a bit of rock climbing in a dry and safe environment. Whether your using it as a pro looking to stay sharp or as a complete amateur trying it for the first time, there are routes to suit of abilities and nerves. Priced a little steeply at over £7 a pop its still a fantastic facility and a chance to do something that's not just cool but is amazingly good for your health...if the heights don't get to you that is! With other facilities such as a cafe, new since the last time i went, and a shop for all your climbing gear needs, this place is top notch. Oh and dont worry that you'll ever get bored climbing the same routes (around 270 combined top rope and boulder problems) as they are changed every 3 months by the resident team of trained spider monkeys kept in the basement, a spectacle in itself!!

It's got a soft kiddies play area (Ziggy's) a trampoline area (BounceZone) and an amazing lazer zone (Lazertag). I remember when the place opened me and a mate went in for a look and got a tour around the place when it was fully lit and they showed us the equipment. It was super cool. A regular Sunday afternoon booking followed for almost a year in a big squad where we would shoot each other up with silly avatar names. Sometimes we even hooked up our I-Pod to shoot each other up to our favourite tunes. Sneaking around in the dark with the Metal Gear Solid theme tune playing.. about the most fun I have ever had in my life. The lazer zone is really really good, probably the best one around, with 'Gems' kicking around which are computers on the wall that shoot you if you don't shoot them first and they give you special powers that give you an edge. They change the layout often enough to keep it interesting and there are a fair few game options. The prices are decent and the staff are friendly and up for a laugh. They do bookings and lock ins which is cool. The only annoyance for me is that they need to run through the equipment every single time which is a pain when you just want to start shooting people in the face! Good for kids.

We took our nephew here when he was visiting and he loved it; three floors of netted in soft play, ball pools, ropes and slides. You can see everything the little terrors are up to in here, and run in to rescue them if need be. It is also really cheap, and perfect for a rainy afternoon where the kids would usually be causing havoc on the couch with crayons. I was too big to go in though (sadface)

Having smugly claimed for years I was a true Scottish football supporters because I supported my…read morelocal team, it was with some dismay I recently discovered I actually live 0.2 of a mile closer to Lochburn Park, home of Maryhill Juniors. But then, that probably tells you all you need to know about this enigmatic club. Much like Junior Football in Glasgow as a whole, Maryhill Juniors operate somewhat under the radar. Their stadium is inconspicuously situated just off Maryhill Road, while matches are rarely publicised outwith minuscule mentions in the Friday edition of the Evening Times. Interaction with the local community seems to be nonexistent, with many newcomers to the area unaware of the club's existence. It's a shame really because the ground is a neat little junior ground and, given the comparative price of senior football, a decent alternative for those who fancy going to a game on a Saturday. The social club, I can't comment on, but the presence of barbed wire on the door is off-putting to say the least.

I cannot wait to see what this place is going to be like when it's fully open and fully installed…read more At the moment there are still big water cooler bottle things lying around everywhere, no TVs installed and I really wish that they would attach that one exercise contraption to the floor - I don't like the idea that I could fall over on top of you while you're exercising. However, that being said, it was about time that they extended the gym, and so far, it really has helped - unless you go at peak times and the sports teams are practicing and the changing rooms are stupidly full and all the weights are in use. My tiny little pet peeve, which you should know about, is that people will never put the weights back in their proper order, so be prepared to go on a hunt for matching weights. Also, the new floor exercise/stretching sections are always busy, and one of them is contained in milkglass - but with an opening which, if that's the mat you're training on, will make you feel incredibly on display! There is always a Trainer walking around, so if you have any questions about the exercises or if you want a new exercise to spice up your session, they will be able to help. Generally, the staff is very approachable and usually very friendly. I haven't attended any of the classes yet; they've introduced a new system of grabbing a little token which you then hand to the instructor. I have yet to find out how it works.

Whitehill Pool is pretty much just that; one big pool and a tiny kids pool where the "deep end" reaches just above my waist. There are no chutes here; no flumes; no frills; no fun! As basic as it is, it serves its purpose if you're simply looking to swim a few lengths, however I'd advise getting in early if you want to avoid dive bombing dafties and lane hogging old ladies.

The biggest issue I have with Whitehill pool is the cleanliness of the changing rooms and also the temperature. I know it's normal for it to be cold when you get out of the swimming pool but this is something else. It is absolutely FREEZING and not only the but the showers are old and unpredictable and go from being BOILING to FREEZING in a matter of seconds. There is also the unmistakable and inexcusable smell of sewage coming up from the drains. The place really needs upgrading. It's a shame really because Whitehill is my nearest swimming pool. Laps is what I like to do the best and it's ideal because there are quiet periods where I can sometimes even have the pool to myself. It's just a shame that the facilities are so poor!
