Bought my new glasses last year, September 2022. After my examination with Ogden Vision Center (VSP provider) I required new glasses. I love the frames I bought at Standard Optical and wanted to just buy the lenses, but my insurance would not allow this. I called Standard Optical twice; once on 10/3 and left a message (No return call) call again on 10/4 and again no response. I drove to the store and the sales representative was listening to music on her I-phone. I inquired with Standard Optical and they would accommodate at the price of $690.00 for just the lens replacements. I told her that's a dealbreaker. Thank you. I then went online to Lensdirect.com and ordered exactly the lens I wanted, per the Eyeglass Rx. (Transition, Progressive lens, Polycarbonate scratch resistant.) Standard optical was awful!!! My son went for an eye exam from their doctor. We order glasses from another store and later found out that the prescription the doctor gave us was wrong. Which makes sense because my son was still reading the letters wrong when the doctor said he had figured out the prescription. Later, I called to reschedule another appointment to get the right prescription telling them what had happen previously. The talked with me letting me know I would not have to pay for the previous exam. So I didn't pay that was until I received a collection letter a few months later. I would have happily payed the $25 to NEVER deal with this company again. I am now currently out the $25 plus a pair of glasses with the wrong prescription. Stay AWAY!!! I called them last week and asked if they take my insurance and the lady said yes and when I went up the person they take my insurance. And I paid for for part of my cost. So today I went up there when they were supposed to open up the guy was waiting for whoever to come with the key and after 15 minutes he then whoever was coming with the key to open it will be at least another 30 minutes more read more

This was a fiasco from the start. It started out with them telling me that I would be able to use my old frames. When she told me what I owed, I said, "Whoa, that seems a little more than I was expecting. What has changed?" That's when she said, "Oh, we couldn't use your old frames, you have to get new ones." An additional $100. I had to return the glasses because they didn't have the anti-glare coating, even though I told them that the anti-glare coating was an absolute must. Ok, mistakes happen. They took back the glasses and told me it would only be an additional $63. I went in to hand in my glasses and pay the additional $63. Now, all of a sudden, it's $96. Ok....... mistakes happen. They had my glasses for TWO MONTHS. I just got them back today. I'm never going back to this office. read more

Senior and elderly do not go to standard optical they are thieves they try to charge you for everything they can when you have a plan of insurance PPO that pays for everything unless you order extra I never do. One of the workers Stacy constantly hangs up on customers bad employee Stacy. Becky she needs to be trained again I've been waiting since December for my glasses this is the worst terrible horrible place ever. Any way to get decent people to work there instead of trying to rob the elderly you always try to add on add on when you were told TOLD I just want what the insurance will pay they are very hard to understand that they're young and their brain isn't working completely. I have enjoyed the friendly, helpful Staff. They are always posative and excited. I went in with my family and we were all seen in a timely fashion. I decided to get Lasik, they were helpful with everything in the process. They always want to do whatever they can to help and maintain your business. Very good customer service. I'm grateful I went with Standard Optical for the Lasik Surgery, I was never worried about the procedure itself, but I worried about the outcome. Nope I came back to inform the dr the contacts were uncomfortable he failed to inform me it was a monthly pair he didn't give me a case when I left so unfortunately I didn't get to try them on longer and had to dispose of them that night.. but I did go back the same day getting them and he said I don't prescribe blurry contacts and you just have to wear them longer ... he definitely is not open to what you have to say which is sad because I have to settle for something uncomfortable I didn't go back I don't need that type of negativity .. receptionists was super kind I wish he was the doctor ... read more

This is specifically for the 460 N 325 E Ogden location (Since that is the store I visited). We had prescriptions from our Optomistrist in hand and carried in our Opticare of Utah insurance card. Allysa was amazingly helpful. She helped us pick out frames and lenses for a family of four and was quick, friendly and very knowledgable. She helped us get the best bang for our buck with our insurance coverage and explained all the available options without high pressure sales. We walked out very pleased with the customer service and will go back. Frames started at $49 and went up from their so there was pricing to fit everybody. read more

I came to Standard Optical specifically for a laser surgery consult. My initial consult was with a male optometrist, whose name I can't recall. It was pretty basic and he said it seemed I'd be a good candidate for PRK. I had to do a pre-op appointment here as well, with deep dilation to get good measurements. Everyone was clear that it was possible I would arrive at the surgical center in Holladay and be told that I wasn't actually a good candidate, given my extreme near-sightedness. They told me about the possibility of an ICL surgery, but not much beyond it being more expensive and a lens is inserted. I took away one star because I feel the doctors should have been more careful in telling me I was a good PRK candidate. When I went to down to Holladay on the day of my scheduled PRK procedure, I was told by the surgeon (Dr. Williams) that I was too near-sighted (more than -10) and I would not be happy with the results. He said the doctor at the Ogden location had measured me at just less than -10, which is the cutoff, and that's fine given the different technology they have at the Holladay location. However, if the Ogden doctor knew I was right at the cusp, I would have like to have been told that and used it to make up my mind about scheduling the PRK procedure. I only have one pair of eyes, I probably wouldn't risk it if I was at the extreme edge of permissibly. Also, when they told me about the ICL procedure, all they said was that it was more expensive. Honestly, it felt more like an upsell than a "this procedure could be better for you" discussion. In actuality, once Dr. Williams explained the procedure and pricing to me, the ICL is LESS profitable for Standard Optical (you pay more than LASIK/PRK because of the surgical center fees, the portion to SO is less than the laser procedures). Regarding my appointments with Dr. Williams and my ICL surgery, I could not be more pleased. He took his time explaining the ICL surgery, drawing pictures of what he was talking about so I'd be able to understand. I was very grateful he didn't just laser off a good chunk of my eye. I had the ICL procedure performed a few weeks later. My father watched my surgery on a screen in the waiting area and was impressed by how careful and meticulous Dr. Williams was. I will need to have a LASIK touch-up to take care of my astigmatism (the ICL addressed my severe near-sightedness), but that was something that Dr. Williams let me know about at our very first discussion about the ICL, so I don't feel like I was overpromised anything in any way. I couldn't say enough good things about Standard Optical and Dr. Williams for a surgical procedure...if you've been considering it at all, call now!! The ICL procedure is expensive, but with my extreme near-sightedness, I was paying more than $600 for a pair of glasses. The cost of the ICL will easily recoup itself with me no longer having to buy expensive glasses each year! One more thing...the front ladies at the Ogden location are AWESOME! I asked a gazillion questions about the PRK procedure and had to reschedule the dates of my procedure twice. They never acted like they were put out with me, they remembered me by name every time I came into the shop, and they were so excited for me to have my surgery. read more

DO NOT GO HERE. They have no idea what they are doing. My wife and I went in to get new contacts and they told us that our insurances covered both glasses and contacts and they urged us to get both since they were covered. That day we chose glasses and ordered contacts. They then continued to call us several times a week asking us questions about our insurances and even for another family members (who was patient) phone number. We didn't get our contacts for over two months and had to have them shipped to us up in Alaska where we work for the summer. In addition, they reached out to us and let us know we owed over 800 dollars for the glasses and contacts that were supposedly covered. We have spent hours trying to iron out the issues but they have not been able to do anything for us. Save yourself a lot of time, confusion, frustration, and most importantly money, don't even think about taking your business here. read more

I was charged $40 on top of my copay for a FITTING for contacts. I've never been charged any money, let alone $40 dollars. They also did not tell me that the fitting costs money! I was there for an exam to replace my glasses. I didn't buy contacts and at the end of my appointment I was expecting to pay my copay of $3 and was charged $43. I was shocked, but had to pay because they already did the fitting. Even the contacts say on them, "free trial" and the prices to get lenses for my glasses are extremely overpriced. I took my prescription and will be going elsewhere to get the lenses. The doctor and staff were nice but I will not be returning to Standard Optical. read more

Absolutely horrible. I spend hundred's for contacts and then 9 months later I got a bill for another hundred. They said it was on the insurance end but after I contacted the insurance said they did not receive the claim until 7 months after my appointment. If you go here, expect to get more bills for the next year. read more
