Mike checked my back and neck, gave me an x ray, some electric stim, and then worked me over.

Staff is nice and the place is clean! Seriously, EVERYONE that works there is so nice and fun! Usually there is always that one person that is a being an a-hole, but not at this place. Everyone has a smiling face on and greet you as if you are friend instead of a patient and it feels like they genuinely care about your well being and not as if it is just their job. To top it all off they fed me today and that made me an extremely happy Pranam. If you're looking for a fixin' come over here!

Due to joint dysplasia since birth, I have pretty much been in PT since the age of 13. I was w/…read moreCora for weeks, & had two different PT's. On one visit, I was one of three clients the PT was working with; waiting after each exercise made for a wasted visit. Only on my initial consultation was I the lone patient; the PT was always working with two of us. After that first visit, I returned & was provided a different PT. Due to the original PT entering my injury incorrectly, this second PT began working on the wrong side of my body. That wasn't a good sign:) This is not a large or fancy facility, and it's rather drab & dark with regard to aestetics & lighting-- just not a cheerful atmosphere. In all my weeks at Cora, my physical condition did not improve. After I had used up all of my authorizations & the doctor then phoned Cora w/ an authorization for additional treatment, no one from Cora phoned to set up appointments w/ me. That was a sign; it's when I decided to switch to Select PT. (It was the best decision I could have made.) Cora's PTs could not figure out a good way to treat me, they overbooked patients, the friendliness of the PTs PALED in comparison to Select's, Cora's PT's appeared to lack the knowledge of the body in order to find the right exercises, & they had just one office staff member on duty to handle appointments, questions, etc. I won't return, especially after seeing how a well run PT organization operates. I am almost through with PT & almost whole again. With Cora, I had relief after each visit for no more than ten minutes; the PTs simply did not know how the body operates to be able to compose an exercise array that strengthened and healed. At Select, only two exercises are the same that I was told to do at Cora-- and I have seen INCREDIBLE physical improvement in a short span of time. I am rather unimpressed with Cora after experiencing Select PT (& numerous others over my lifespan). Additionally, the logistics are a bear-- getting into the Cora parking lot was very difficult due to the office's location at the extremely busy corner of Bearss & BB Downs. It was not a cake walk to enter the lot at high traffic times; the lot cannot be accessed from BB Downs unless you are heading south. And leaving the lot meant you had to drive south, regardless if you wanted to head north or another direction. I wasted way too much time entering & exiting this poorly placed business & wondered when I'd be involved in a car accident.

Why 5 stars? Because Alyssa pours everything into her business…read more --- --- --- I've been struggling with some pretty annoying symptoms around my lower back and hip for over a year now and I've seen a couple different physical therapists for it. Unfortunately, the problems not only still persists, but I seem to have the most unique issues in the history of mankind, which means that I'm an incredibly tough patient for anyone to figure out. After going to one PT twice a week for 4 months without any progress, I went on the hunt to get a third opinion via the Active Release Technique website. Alyssa had several certifications, so I gave her a call and set up an appointment. My experience at Empower PT was absolutely different from any other place I'd been to in my life. First off, I really appreciated Alyssa's energy from the beginning. She was incredibly dedicated and determined to help solve my issues - almost to the same level that someone in my own family would be. You definitely get the vibe that you are Alyssa's only focus and concentration because she seems to remember every tiny detail of your story and symptoms. She does research in between appointments and tries new things with each visit, and has a whole plan mapped out for you before you even walk in the door. But in reality, Alyssa has tons of other patients - she just has the uncanny ability to make you feel like she's spending 40+ hours a week on YOU. Another reason my experience was different from other places - I spent a lot of time doing various workouts, mobility training, etc. This might be more relevant to my particular problem, but it seemed to be less about getting massage/work done and more about me strengthening things that have weakened over time and put me in this predicament. And one more important detail that's different about Empower PT - there is less than zero pressure to commit to any sort of long term plan of coming back. I get the sense from Alyssa that she'd rather have magically made my symptoms go away after two visits and never see me again, over locking me into some crazy thing where I'm coming here regularly for months. The latter would mean more income for her business, but she comes across as the type that would rather have a higher success rate of fixing problems than becoming a millionaire :) Are my issues totally gone after coming here a handful of times? No. But I do think we're onto something. Horrible posture for my entire adult life is probably what put me in this situation, so a few appointments is not going to suddenly solve decades of what got me here. But the good news is that I can now play hours of basketball without my back going completely out of commission - something that was not true before I came to Empower PT. Lastly, I think the entire experience here is summed up in the name. Alyssa wants to Empower people to learn how to take care of their issues at home so that they don't have to continue to come in and see her countless times. I was given a long list of workouts and stretches to perform on my own and have been doing them religiously. That has been instrumental in my progress! I've also taken a couple of mobility classes with the 2nd person in the office, Nick! Just like the do-it-at-home plan that I was given, these are great to give me new ideas on what to work on when I'm at the gym. Prior to this, I was doing a pretty archaic workout plan that probably was doing more harm than good. I'll never think of working out the same again after trying some of these classes! If you can't tell already, I love Empower PT - my new go-to when my body isn't cooperating with my desire to live a healthy and active lifestyle!

I've been going to physical therapy here for 4 months. My therapist, Lauren, is great. She listens…read moreto me and works to help me get to my goals. She definitely knows her stuff. As a terrible runner who got a stress fracture in her ankle and suffers from chronic inflammation, recovery has been a process but I feel like OPPT is doing all they can to help me recover and to be a better runner. The office is located on the second floor of a 3 story building on the corner of Dakota and Cleveland in South Tampa. It sits directly behind the MacDonald's on Kennedy Blvd. The front office staff is super sweet and on their game. They give reminder calls if you're coming in 1x per week (more often and you don't get a call but you get a print out of your schedule) and check patients in and out. There are usually several clients seeing therapists at a time and almost always sports on TV. The office is big and there is a large open space with a treadmill, bikes, an elliptical, weights, and therapy tables. Everything is clean and sanitary. They are constantly wiping down tables, washing towels, and changing pillow linens. Your first visit is a consultation which I think always takes place in one of the private rooms. Everybody is very professional and friendly. After the first visit the pain/fun begins. Each session usually starts with a 5-10 minute warm-up (which will vary based on the body part you've injured) after that the sessions change- it might be weights, resistance band exercises, balance work, etc. etc. It changes every visit. I had friends tell me they don't go to physical therapy bc they can do all the exercises at home. Well, I certainly don't think that is the case. I don't think I would be as healed as I am today or have as much knowledge about my body if I wasn't in PT at OPPT. OPPT has flexible hours for therapy with all therapists available early morning or evenings on rotating days for those who work. I'm really happy that my injury brought me to OPPT (which was recommended by my podiatrist). I will also be happy when it's time to leave though. :)
