AVOID. Short version: Lack of understanding of court procedure, poor communication, slow to act, extra fees. For more detail, read on. We chose to work with this attorney, despite his fees being higher than average for adoption, because we were sold on the idea that he would take care of everything, and that he was proficient in all matters regarding adoption. In our case, we were informed that handling a case in another court, not one the attorney is used to, would not be a problem. But that translated to more billable hours due to additional travel...travel that occurred because the attorney did understand the court or court's process. On two occasions, I personally had to contact the court and/or show up myself to clear up the attorney's mess. Perhaps most frustrating was the fact that he couldn't seem to get a court date. After waiting over a month, I reached out to the courts and received a list of items that were not completed by the attorney. He did not file the paperwork in accordance with the court's request and was missing requested items. I conveyed this information to him, and he subsequently assured me he would get it done. After waiting another week or so, we still did not have a court date. The attorney communicated to us that all items had been submitted to the court per their criteria and that all we could do was wait for them to respond. This was not the case. Skeptical, I personally went to the court to get a date. Lo and behold, I was assigned a date within 20 minutes of discussion with the court. However, even after getting the assigned date, I received an email from the court stating they had to delay by two days. As it turns out, the attorney STILL has not yet filed the paperwork correctly. I assured the court to leave it to me and it would be done by end of the day. I reached out to the attorney and had to demand this be done immediately. This was very concerning since it had been communicated that it has been done already. Out of all the issues we experienced, the above are just the most egregious and costly. Please feel free to reach out if you would like further clarification. If money and time do not matter to you, this is your attorney. Get used to the "I got it" and "customer service is what we focus on". I think for each time we heard that we were charged additional fees. read more

Mr Broussard was hired to litigate a family law matter and 20 months later had filed One Motion, that he never argued. His miss-management of time enabled the opposition to enter a Motion for Judgement , that was granted. He request to file a Motion for Reconsideration, it was granted , then he failed to do so! He never file notarized documents into evidence and above all he "abandon" my case. I wrote certified letters of dissatisfaction with his representation , he never responded until CAAP was involved. He lied to CAAP and the State Bar of Texas; attacked my character and fabricated my behavior in court with written mendacity in his response to the Disciplinary Counsel. He will lie to cover his negligence .His legal assistant supported his untrue statements. Because I had no corroborating witness, but a well document time-line of facts , the counsel still sited no cause to reprimand him. He denied me my right to be heard in a court of law!! I first hired Attorney Broussard in 2009. He was fair; his retainer was moderate; he was honest about the charges my son faced, and he was very respectful of our circumstances. I only found the other review because I did a Google search. I'd heard he was getting married and I wanted to see if I could find where he and his finance might be registered so that I could send a gift. While I was looking I didn't know that you could rate attorney's from Yelp. I was surprised to see that he had a negative rating. I've only always known him to be highly ethical and I found him through a referral in which they also promised that he was an attorney that I could trust. I'm glad I did and would highly recommend him to anyone. He is caring, he will tell you like it is. And he is fair. So I'm not sure of the other review. Attorney says he has over 25 years in the business. However, my personal encounter was 2.5 years of Dishonest, unethical and unprofessional practice. He literally forced me into making a decision within 3 days where child custody outcome was contingent upon.... Demanded that I pay his pastor for Christian based counseling at a church I was not apart of, nor a denomination that I was apart of. When I refused to use his own pastor, and used my own at church I'm a member of, he cursed me out via email among other things and revealed that after two years of being retained as my attorney that he never read my court orders and was not even knowledgeable of my case. He promised upon initially being hired to do work, and didn't file anything until an entire year later, and then didn't show up for court. He alleged that it was because the court date was wrong although everyone else was there except him- causing the case to be dismissed. When asked him to follow up, He claimed it was because he couldn't file anything. However, when he was hired he said he could. It wasn't until after he took all the money and waited a year later, that he disclosed that. When he couldn't answer to the discrepancies that I called him on that were very well documented in his written emails and in the presence of witnesses, he decided to take he money and run! Avoiding dealing with it. And very soon after he forced me to make that agreement that I was opposed to (within a couple of weeks( which was not at all the original agreement he and I discussed) he fired himself from the case, leaving the custody case out to dry, which subsequently left a 4 year old child in the hands of someone who (by Cps documentation can support) was negligent in letting the child out of the house in the wee hours of the morning to wonder in the street. Attorney Broussard alleged that a lot of things happened "behind closed doors" with he and lady prosecutor on my case, that would cost me additional money. That communication was withheld from me. He demanded my mother pay that additional money on the spot. He then Walked away with several thousands of dollars without performing original work he was hired for, that was separate of the aforementioned. I would be happy to share all the documentation, to prove validity of this review, with only those who are seriously considering this attorney. It is not my intent to slander this attorney. My intent is to provide information, whereas facts can support the concern I truly have as a parent, as well as need to know information if you are seriously considering counsel for any related case.
