Came with friends to hike the Sawtooths for a couple of days. Cabin had 2 queen beds: one in the…read moremain room and one in enclosed bedroom. Electric baseboard heat. Cabin was clean, and the venue quiet, but could have used some TLC: Kitchenette sink and shower water supplies are hooked backwards (cold where hot should be). Not a big deal in the kitchenette, but a scald hazard in the shower. Electric outlet near the kitchenette sink was defective -- only one side of the duplex outlet worked. And the lighting over the table was horrible. Difficult or impossible to do any reading or play games that required reading without using our headlamps. Bedroom door difficult to close against the threadbare carpet underneath it. Needs some attention from a circular saw. Entry door locks have also seen better days; I suspect the fit between the locks and their strike plates was better when first installed. Perhaps previous guests have made off with a mid-sized pot from the kitchenette? All we found was a large pot (sufficient for cooking pasta) and one sized for a pint's cooking. Something in-between would be a great addition.

Upon arrival, we were told that the only time they could accommodate us for dinner was an hour later than we normally eat. Odd, and frustrating because I'm breastfeeding so that forced me to adjust certain things. After that, we were pointed ambiguously in the general direction of our cabin and left to bring our stuff to our room - no offer to help with our luggage or show us where we were staying. The pillows placed on the bed had to be 10+ years old. The feathers were clumped together so badly it felt like someone had stuffed the pillowcase with a bunch of tennis balls. We have a baby so getting a cumulative four hours of sleep on vacation was infuriating. The guests in the cabin next to us arrived at midnight so we were woken up by rolling suitcases, shutting doors, and talking. (At this point, my husband was considering sleeping in our car for the remainder of the night.) For $1k+ a night you get to share a thin bedroom wall with other guests. It's kind of like a Motel 6 but with Ritz Carlton prices. There's no mini-fridge in the room, and they couldn't provide one. During the whole stay, I was putting my breastmilk in the kitchen fridge that the staff used. The breakfast is the same six options every day; nothing inspired. There's a coffee table in the corner so anytime you want a refill during your breakfast, you're getting up yourself. If you want it to go, bring your own Yeti, because they don't have sleeves for the thin, paper to-go coffee cups. Want coffee in your room in the morning? Forget it; there's no coffee maker. Get dressed and hike up to the lodge. Need an extra towel or water glass? Grab your shoes, you're going for another walk. There's no phone in the room to request any missing or extra items. For lunch, they offer a sack lunch where they insist you choose a sandwich OR a salad, not both, which is hysterically cheap. You pick them up in the morning, so by the time you eat either option, it's ~5 hours old. You want to eat a warm lunch not in a brown paper bag like you're back in elementary school? Forget it. The lodge doesn't serve lunch. The hot spring pool is beautiful, but a half mile drive down the hill from the lodge, and not staffed. Forget having anyone at the lodge show you the way. It's behind a private residence too so we tentatively approached unsure of whether we were trespassing. As mentioned, there's no staff down there so you're left to your own devices finding towels, the restrooms, water, etc. We did enjoy wine that we purchased (most certainly not all inclusive, and they also charge a corkage fee for any wine you bring yourself), on our shared porch. The porch has one table and two rocking chairs that you share with the same guests you share the bedroom wall with, so only one couple can sit at a time, while the other guests are 10 feet away in their bedroom. It's really exciting getting to share your wedding anniversary with another couple as they overhear your porch conversation. It's a good opportunity to practice negotiation skills, like, "We can see you would also like to use the porch, can we have 10 more minutes, and then we'll go in our room and you guys can come out?" Things like that. I would have happily shared this feedback with the manager, Ryan, when we were checking out; however, literally the only question he asked us was if we wanted to leave a tip. There was zero curiosity whatsoever as to whether we enjoyed our stay. Pros: Mary Pat and Grace are absolutely phenomenal staff members. The views were indeed beautiful, and that seems to solely be what this venue is relying on and counting on people to remember when they're paying the bill at the end of their stay. For nearly $1,200/night, I'd sooner camp in the Sawtooth's and light that money on fire to keep myself warm before staying at the Idaho Rocky Mountain Ranch again. You won't find a Four Seasons in Lowman. They have gas. They have a small convenience store up front. They have ice cream, and t-shirts (I bought one!). And I have eaten here many times. I thought the food was great! Yes, it is basic, it is sandwiches, and there are not proper entrees. Again, if you want a high end experience, go find a steakhouse in Boise. The Sourdough is simple. The servers were all friendly, at least to me. Shout out to Lacy, thanks for helping our big table, and being so efficient. If you need a solid meal and beer in Lowman, stop in! P.S. I came here looking for some tin foil to line a pan, to cook some steaks in our cabin nearby. They were out of tin foil in their convenience store area. The owner asked me to wait a minute, and went back to the kitchen and tore off a big sheet of tin foil, and gave it to me! So if you like good people, another reason to stop in.

I ordered an omelette for breakfast which was big and good, more than I could eat. Service was prompt, and my server was conscious of refilling my coffee. So there's nothing really wrong with this place other than it's kinda dumpy and I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here again. It's also a gas station, so that's convenient.

After a fun day in Stanley and at Redfish Lake, this was the perfect spot to enjoy dinner for our big group of 25. The staff were amazing at accommodating us at short notice. The food came out fast and potions were generous. They were out of a few ingredients so some items from the menu were unavailable, but they were super nice about compensating with some free shakes. The mountain setting is gorgeous and we took lots of photos. I'm so glad we chose Smiley Creek. We'll be back!

Think forest service log cabins from the 1930s. Basic necessities are met here: hot water, shower, toilet, sink, heater, bed, nightstand, table. I ran out of hot water in the shower, but was the only one in our group with that complaint. Bed was ok; my back didn't ache when I got up. Windows are drafty, but the old heater cranked out a LOT of heat. The first thing I noticed when I walked in was the old knob and tube wiring connected to the WW2-era rotary light switch. Then I saw modern romex wire lining the ceiling connecting to the heater. That's always a little scary, but we survived. Surprisingly, there were a couple three-prong outlets for your modern electronics. We were told wifi was available, but we couldn't find it. Stanley is a beautiful town with tons of creeks and rivers running through it as well as several epic places to eat and drink. Recreation heaven. If you're just looking for a place to lay your head at night, these rustic cabins will suffice.
