There's that one from Louis above, and the other one is: Don't trash the competition. It's unprofessional. Let your work speak for itself. Dr. Stanton and his staff treated me well, don't get me wrong. But I really didn't appreciate his critique of every bit of dental work I've ever had done in my life, concluding that I was lucky those incompetents didn't ruin my entire skull. It's true, not every person who has ever worked on me was a virtuoso dental wizard (and my Yelp account reports on many of them), but I've had some wonderful experiences over the years, and those were no accidents. But in any case, I ask my dentist to attend to the current state of my mouth, not to rag on my mother's "middle-class status seeking" for getting me braces as a teenager. What's done is done. And my mom is awesome, by the way. I know I am lucky to be in good dental health overall. I just want a dentist who acknowledges that, not one who wants to redo all my fillings because some of them are "a little lumpy." I don't think I'll be going back. read more

I have been going to Dr. Stanton since moving to this area about three years ago. He is extremely competent and metculous at his job. He stays current on dental technology and will take the time, if asked, to describe what he is doing and why. He was recommended to my wife by an acquaintence and we have, in turn recommended him to others. I also agree with others that Estelle is a great addition to this office. Yes, he does have his opinions often based on his insatiable appetite for knowledge of all kinds particularly American history. He and I do not share the same views on all politics, but he does listen. I actually got him to the point of considering voting for Obama in 2012, but stop short of inviting him to work for his election. I thought that might have been too much to ask. So, my advice to the lady who felt intimidated by his banter is to speak up and make yourself heard. To simply dismiss him for his political views is to miss out on a really competent and concerned dentist. Enjoy the banter or change the topic. The American Revolutionary war is one of his favorites. Anyone who adores Thomas Jefferson can't be all bad. read more

Dr. Stanton is hilarious and sort of reminds me of the dentist-version of my dad. He always has funny stories, talks about blues music (and even sings sometimes), and wears Hawaiian shirts. Also, he's a great dentist, and his hygienist is delicate and awesome. The hygienist had a broken arm last time I was in, and still managed to clean my teeth delicately and carefully. read more

I would advise women in the area looking for a dentist to stay away from Dr. Stanton. I thought I would give him a shot since his office is convenient for me to get to, but he made me very uncomfortable, touching and grabbing my arms, shoulders, and hands repeatedly in between looking at my teeth and making unpleasant comments. He was only 8 or 9 and had trouble sitting still but this guy told him to "shut up and quit moving" and I heard it from the waiting room and was stunned. Needless to say we never went back. Dr. Stanton's receptionist and hygienist are friendly, gentle, and professional. Dr. Stanton himself is incredibly unpleasant to be around. He takes advantage of the helpless position of his patients to express problematic and offensive political and social opinions. Today he expressed misogynistic opinions while telling the story of his divorce. He also expressed sympathy with anti-government militias. Worst of all, he implied that the Boston bombers were justified if they were protesting the government. I have never felt so angry and helpless, all while not being able to express anger or leave the situation because his hands were in my mouth. I will be taking my business elsewhere, and I suggest that you do too. read more

I had a similar experience to another reviewer. Dr. Stanton talks a lot while he is working on your teeth, and last time I was there he made me feel very uncomfortable with what he was saying. He said things that were racist and sexist. He made disparaging comments to regarding the race of another patient who was in the office. He told me women shouldn't have careers if they have kids. He voiced some very strong political opinions that were offensive to me. It is bad enough to be at the mercy of a dentist poking sharp metal things at your teeth, it is even worse to have to listen to an entitled white male whack-job rant about minorities, women, and the government at the same time. Doc Stanton has been my family's dentist for close to 12 years. His work is very good and I recommend him and his staff to anybody needing a dentist. Estelle's scheduling is fantastic, I wait longer to get my hair cut than a cleaning. This town leans a bit Left and the Doc is a tad Right, it is true, but his honesty is uncompromising and character unquestionable. Normally, I do not write reviews but this case seems special. This doctor was too corrupt and money-hungry to not warn the others. If you don't like painful details just jump down to the SUMMARY. This year Blue Dental was the only insurance available via my employer. Forced to change my old dentist who was out of network, this is how I found Mr.Kermit Stanton. I checked the reviews and references, and it seemed ok comparing to the others from the same list. "What could go wrong," I thought scheduling a well exam and teeth cleaning. At that point I had a minor itch in my mouth and no pain at all. Upon arrival and paperwork completion, I was taken in by the Dr.'s assistant Janese. She looked like a very determined petite woman who immediately stated "I'm 20 years in this business" and then gave me a water pipe jokingly saying, they will "put me to work here." Well, wrong I was thinking this was a joke! First, she made about 16 x-ray shots of my mouth! When I asked, why so many, the reply was "we always do this for new patients, and this is covered by your insurance." I've been through several dentists before and they never done so many on any given visit! This was suspicious but I am not a professional dentist to judge another professional dentist. Then came the teeth cleaning. I have a good pain tolerance; never had a twitch in the dentist's chair. Well, I can't say that any more! This was SO PAINFUL, she had to use a topical solution to numb me and keep going! Seeing me in pain did NOT stop her! She only said, "We are not sadists here," which I am doubting very much now! One of the torturing tools was a probe that looks like a long plastic piece ending with a needle. She used it to pinch me inside my gum all around every tooth! She said, this is a part of normal routine check up! Whoa! Then the Dr.Stanton came in. He never took a single look at my mouth during this horrible 2.5 hour long appointment. Yes, you've heard me right. Not a single look at my mouth - just the x-rays of the teeth. But his appearance was a show! He started by disparaging a president of the country of my origin. I was actually agree with him in a part that the president is bad. Plus, I am long time American Citizen, so this did not bug me. But then Dr. kept going about all patient of my descent stating that all of them have dental problem, have bad teeth and the dental service in my former country is a disaster. This was not true by itself, and he never been to the country he was speaking of so bluntly. But this did not bother me much. "Dr.," I said, "This does not apply to me. I live in US for 15 years, and was taken care of by the dentists here, never there." I told him the name of my last dentist who I had for years. "Oh, yeah, I know him," Dr.Stanton said, "He is out now, and his son takes care of the office... well, he is good at playing tennis!" I personally know and was in care of this dentist, and then his son, also respectable dentist. I would of never changed them if not that stupid insurance situation. And yet, Mr.Stanton had nerves to belittle them. I was happy when he left but not for long. Janese kept torturing my mouth while making a lot of bad statements about my health. After 2.5 hours of torture, I was let go with a numb mouth and a referral to periodontal Dr who, per Mr.Stanton, worked with this office for years. All that day and a part of the night I was in pain from this "well exam." SUMMARY I was coming to a routine well exam and teeth cleaning, a one (1) hour procedure with no pain involved; had no pain and a minor itch in my mouth at the place where my old dentist said is a deep pocket to watch. I got 2.5 hours of sadistic torture with 16 shots of x-ray from which my mouth was bleeding, and I was numb and in pain well into the night. She said, I have the following: - a gum disease and a chronic infection; - several deep pockets and jaw bone loss in four places in my mouth; - may loose "a tooth or two" but it's not so bad considering that if I do all she said I would stay healthy. - to come and see her every three months for a deep cleaning. - to go same often to periodentist to deal with my chronic infection and gum problem. - a minor cavity in one tooth that also requires filling. I went to the third party dentist and paid out of pocket. He was looking at me for all these specific areas Janese and Mr.Stanton mentioned. His verdict: - I have one deep pocket in my mouth and I may loose this tooth if it would keep bothering me. - The minor itch in my mouth is part of this deep pocket problem and a tooth I may loose. - There is no chronic infection and gum disease, and no need to see periodentist - No need for a deep cleaning, and the cavity is so small, it's not worst fixing unless bothering me. FINAL NOTE: Mr.Stanton & his assistant Janese are the worse money hungry scumbags in my list of scam doctors who will use you for money while pretending they heal your non-existent conditions. I recently moved out of Ann Arbor, and one of my biggest fears was loosing Dr. Stanton as my dentist. For years I suffered from Acid Reflux and needed many fillings. Dr. Stanton was nothing but amazing. I am now realizing this after seeing a new dentist in my new location. What I really loved about him is that he will explain everything that he is about to do to you and why he is doing it. He is SO interested in what he does and I can tell he always wants to learn more. He is one of the most gentile dentists I've ever had. I have a GREAT fear of dentists and I let him know this in advance of my procedures, and I did not feel a thing. He cares about his patients more then you'd typically see. He also takes his time with everything that he does, nothing was ever rushed, and there was always a sense of calm which I loved. I would suggest him and recommend him to anybody. I wish I could go back to him now!!! read more
